Ella Lacey crouched next to her little baby and said enviously, "Look how sensible your brother Xavier is."
"Here, take it." The little bun stuffed the glazed fruit in her hand into hers.
Ella Lacey happily licked the topmost piece and said with her mouth wide open, "So sweet."
"Have you got no shame?" The little bun rolled her eyes at her.
To outsiders, it seemed like their roles should have been reversed. Where have you seen a mommy and baby fighting over food?
"Sister Cherline, this one's for you," Obby Stuart trotted over and said earnestly, "I haven't bitten into it yet, it's very clean."
"Xavier, you eat it. I don't eat sweets," Cherline said with the air of a boss, arms crossed over her chest.
"Hey, don't all kids like sweet things?" Obby Stuart couldn't understand why Sister Cherline wouldn't eat something sweet.
