Chapter 3 - Leonard

I stood in front of the cliff looking down at the battlefield below. Previously, I watched how soldiers and monster clashed. Now, the battlefield was a one-sided fight affair. The small mage with brown hair swiftly maneuvered themselves like a hummingbird throughout the field.

I was transfixed how quickly and gracefully she moved. What would have already tired out a solider or completely exhausted someone's magic, she was full of both.

She was also hurt.. But this hurt was beyond repair.

I knew I was partly to blame watching Elizabeth small figure conduct a magic circle. Promptly creating a fire beast that started to incinerate monsters below. The fire beast moved forward and continued without faltering. The sea of magical beast that were terrorizing the battlefield were now engulf in flame and all there was to be heard was screeches of death.

It was eerie but at the same time fascinating how she was able to do that amount of chaos in such little time.

This campaign has been going on for the last six month and regardless of how well the Duke was in exterminating these creatures, pushing them back towards the border was a hard job.

Elizabeth did what they couldn't in one fatal swoop. She truly was of the House of Reeve and worthy member of the magic tower.

I had to truly admired her watching her pour all her anguish below. Instead of withdrawing from the world she instead decided to face it head on and fight the pain that was hurting her. She was making the first steps towards it. Unlike me.

I gulped down the bitterness that started to rise.

"Master, the Dukes' soldiers are on the move. Presumably heading here after clearing the West line."

My aids voice took me away from the thoughts.

I nodded, already formulating our next move.

"Send more mages to the East borders to help those soldiers." I added. "Also send healer mages to the west to help the ones in need of healing."

With his instructions my aid stop to wait. Already aware of how I operated.

First I wanted to focus below.

Lifting my arm I focused on the magic barriers that halted the soldiers from engaging on Elizabeth rampage.

It was Elizabeth idea and a intuitive one at that.

Usually mages weren't allowed on the battle field due to hazardous reasons, but on using magic stones to hold already cast magic spells was beyond ingenious.

We were able to use them as shields and barriers. Effectively blocking off others from engaging on the battle field.

When they tested it out many of the mages were a bit frighten that they wouldn't succeed but so far its been a good call.

"Send the healers below, and make sure you pin the soldiers that way we could continue to aid them til further notice."

My aid disappeared to do my bidding.

Lifting my arm up I summoned another magic circle and conquered all the foreseeable clouds in the horizon.

Quickly they gathered above the battlefield.

Below, only one person moving about.

Elizabeth was now fleeting around taking care of the smaller beast that escape her line of fire. The walls of flames still raging fiercely on the already dead carcass of monsters.

I assumed her magic fire were reflecting the raging anger inside of her.

I made sure the some magic circle rain down at targeted areas in the field.

Just as quickly the rumbling of clouds created a storm of thunder and rain and began to pour below.

Elizabeth stood eerily still in the middle of the battlefield as rain poured from below.

Only seventeen, she was even more powerful then I ever imagined.

Never showing any infinity for it, I never tried to gauge what she could do.

I still had so many questions to ask her and so far from her explanation at the tower.

It only created a string of more unanswered questions. So many more I ever cared to ask looking back now at how she was able to answer the ones I did.

Making me even more suspicious of the fact that I knew she had more to say. But reluctant to say them.

Growing up we've alway been distance. As adult though that gap became even bigger. We barely spoke, only when absolutely necessary. In all honesty that was never.

So far all I've come to understood was that this war, the vision I recently had. Even Elizabeth strange behavior and her immense powers.

All of it was centered around Elizabeth. She was the key.
