Charlie River opened the car door, and Thomas Shannon bent down to get in the car. He picked up a bottle of water, twisted the cap open, and was just about to drink when he noticed her watching him. He paused, "Do you want some?"
Sophie Sullivan shook her head, looking at Thomas Shannon suspiciously, "What did you say to my Daddy and Mommy?"
Thomas Shannon drank a sip of water, moistening his throat, before leisurely replying, "I asked Uncle and Auntie when they'd let you marry me. If it rains today, they won't. If it doesn't, they'll give you to me."
Utter nonsense!
Sophie Sullivan's eyes showed deep disdain. She didn't need to think to know he was teasing her again.
"What's that look?" Thomas Shannon capped the bottle and casually set down the water, then pinched her chin.
He brought her head close, examining her carefully for a while. Her reddened eyes were gradually recovering.
The nasal sound from crying sadness was gone too.
