Almost eighteen hours had passed.
Norris's heart was in turmoil, fearing she wouldn't make it in time.
Upon hearing her urgency, the driver immediately sped up, "Why didn't you mention it earlier! That hospital is notorious; why did your friend go there for treatment!"

As soon as Norris arrived at the hospital, she saw a gaunt old white man standing anxiously and wearily at the entrance. She hurriedly got out of the car, walked over, and asked in English, "Are you Mr. Merlin? I'm a friend of Aldana's. How is she now?"
The old man became agitated upon seeing her, grabbing Norris's hand and leading her inside the hospital.
"Pay first, pay first," he muttered, guiding Norris with his unsteady legs to make the payment. After confirming the transfer, he gently wiped the corner of his eye, "That's great, Aldana is saved. May the Virgin Mary ensure mother and child are safe."
He clasped his hands in prayer.
Old Man Merlin led Norris towards the direction of the operating room.
