I snuggled my wife against my chest. She was so cute whenever she got all red. Nora had mellowed out over the years, but seeing that old side of hers reminded me that the fierce girl from the colonnade in Raiyama was still very much alive.
She pouted. "Stop smiling, doofus."
"Can't help it," I murmured, resting my chin lightly atop her head. "I'm holding the prettiest thing in Kuroriku, and she just called me a doofus. Why wouldn't I smile?"
Nora grumbled. "Thing? I'm not a thing, you arrogant lion," she grumbled, burying her face into my chest to muffle her voice, though her arms wrapped stubbornly tighter around my ribs.
"You know what I meant," I chuckled, rubbing her back. "Seeing you acting like this reminds me of when we first married."
"Don't bring up our wedding. I was an anxious mess, the ceremonial crown was digging into my skull, and you wouldn't stop staring like an idiot."
