"Why are they pewpewing?" Seb asked, his voice barely above a whisper.
I knelt down to his level, maintaining my grip on his shoulders to keep him steady. "Sometimes, people make bad choices when they're scared or angry, buddy. But relax. I'll keep you safe."
He moved his hands up and down. "We should help! Daddy is a knight, right? Hero time!"
I felt a swell of pride at Seb's bravery. "Yeah, but I need to keep you safe. Stay here inside my barrier, Seb." I formed a bear-shaped barrier around him.
Seb's eyes brightened at the sight of his angelic shield. "I'm safe inside my bear wall!"
I nodded. "Stay put, I'll be right back."
He nodded. "Me gonna be extra brave, like Daddy!"
I chuckled at how much he wanted to emulate me. "That's my boy! Just remember, real bravery also means knowing when to stay safe."
I turned and stepped out of the alley. The gangsters were also hidden as they tried to shoot one another like soldiers on a battlefield.
