"Look, Pingui. A strange flat fish! It's like auntie's kite!" Anis chirped, pointing at a silver manta ray."
I chuckled inside. Anis's way of seein' the world was a lot like my brother's when he was her age.
Sil used to look at ordinary things like shoppin' carts and pretend they were sport cars. He would always tell me or our Ma to push faster and start making noises when we did. Usually Ma didn't, but I would sometimes entertain him when nobody was looking, taking the sharp turns around the dry goods aisles with just enough speed to rattle the wheels and make him laugh. Now Sil was nine, and Anis was carrying that exact same chaotic spark, turnin' an ordinary afternoon into an expedition.
