Chapter 242: The Letter
Three days had passed since the dinner at the Halton mansion. The household had settled into an uneasy calm, my mother hummed while cooking, my father tended his roses, and I spent my days buried in wedding preparations, phone calls with Grandmother Halton, and endless lists.
But Lilith had been quiet. Too quiet.
She barely came out of her room. When I knocked, she said she was tired. When I asked if something was wrong, she said everything was fine. But her eyes told a different story. They were distant, haunted.
This morning, I decided I wouldn't let her hide anymore.
I climbed the stairs to her room and knocked. "Lilith? It's me. Open up."
No answer.
I knocked again. "Lilith, I know you're in there. We need to talk."
Silence.
Something was wrong.
I tried the door. Unlocked. I pushed it open.
Her room was empty.
