Chapter 187
We hurried towards the shelter, the soldiers fanning out to secure the perimeter. As we stepped inside, I gasped in surprise.
Standing by a crackling fire, tending to a pot of simmering stew, was Dr. Evans. His face lit up with relief as he saw us.
"Alayna! You're alive!" he exclaimed, rushing forward to embrace us. "I was so worried! I thought you were gone!"
He pulled back, his eyes scanning us for injuries. "Are you alright? What happened?"
"I'm okay, Dr. Evans," I said, relief washing over me. "We had a bit of a run-in with some… unfriendly plant life. But we're safe now."
I glanced around the shelter. It was small and cramped, but it was warm and dry. There were a few cots set up in the corner, and a table laden with supplies.
I wanted to help to treat them but my own feet betrayed ke, i almost fell down.
