Chapter 596 - Chapter 596: Hunting Ground

As dawn arose, the many people in their beds remain quiet. As dawn came, only one would begin to step out, careful as to not make any further noise. The children remained in their respective beds, the faint audio of Stolas' father playing to soothe the avian acting as their mask when a creak was heard. Nimble and loose, the figure kept a keen eye at the newcomer being dragged inside.

Mawkin Kurorai.

Something about him, however, has changed. While mostly notable as a coward, the Dhampir's eyes were focused, clear even. As if he was prepared, convicted, trained under scalding waters and ferocious beasts. The figure was getting close, hearing over the small conversation they'd have once Mawkin reached up above. They'd utilize the rough boards to create a small hole, sinking something within the clay to open it up proper, allowing such speech to echo through. "Wyvios Toshigo. That right?" He'd ask, his voice more clear than his shaky self.

"Indeed, Indeed~. You're the supposed son of Sozo, right? Been a while since I've interacted with one of the true rulers of the Circle, much less the Nihilistic one..."

"It is an odd time, yeah... but with what's currently happened, I'd rather take such a chance here than anywhere else. Most of it would either guide me to be stronger or take me out as their enemy. This is the only neutral ground we have so far..."

"Yes, yes. Your 'enlightenment.' Very fortunate for you, in fact, for I have myself a wonderful test to help ensure you reach such a selfless act." Sounds of papers being rummaged, before one gets planted firmly on a surface, most likely a table. Small taps on the sides indicates importance, a document that most likely has the information necessary to carry out whatever deed would grant him his wish. "You are familiar with the Bounty System, yes? Far as I recalled, Debt Collector over there has placed a hefty sum on a child. One that has been recently in my borders, no less. I allowed him to stay, of course, but all for the sake of your growth." Small movements shifted, as if one was getting away and the other was getting closer. Sounds of the paper ruffled indicated it was picked up. Analyzed.

"Wait... him? Are you telling me-" Mawkin's words were dashed as soon as Wyvios spoke up.

"That taking his life would 'awaken' you? Why, of course! Oh, as well as his accomplices. The other children, the Serpent, the intruders I've heard are coming in from that wretched wreck, the Descendants..."

"The Descendants? Wouldn't they cause the end of the world if they die?"

"Yes, but isn't that what enlightenment is? To find your true self? To be separate from your mortal coil and rise above as highly as the magnificent sun? Listen to me, and listen to me well: The world we live in is a world unjust. Unkind. To take what we want, to forge our blade with our bones, to have our energy as the furnace, and our body as the water. We are not human, anymore. To seek this 'enlightenment', one must transcend the body... and become what the soul truly is." Advice that felt genuine. A grip and shift suggests clothes being grabbed, a hand on one's shoulder, tightly held to emphasize his point. Before the figure was able to learn further, however...

Tink!

Caught. The Knife at their neck, as they were brought to the light. Tsukiya was exposed before her, the Assassin of Orochi herself. "You've been peering too, haven't you?" She'd ask. Tsukiya doesn't give an answer, as any further noise would most likely caught her red-handed, forced to die at the hands of the king. Koina continued as she pulled the Kitsune away. "You shouldn't be trespassing, least with an invitation, if you must. I'd rather you don't waste your breath on your find. The king will make short work of them. So please..." She lets her voice linger, testing Tsukiya's loyalty, seeing if she'd be willing to rat them out just as much as the Assassin did.

That was until Tsukiya was able to catch on something. "You made a very weird set of sentences, Waow... Are you okay?" She'd whisper back.

"...Very. You won't last long anyway. Now answer my question."

"...You hid something, didn't you?"

"Only if you're dumb enough to find it." Koina was quick on taking Tsukiya away from the conversation, knife still at her throat. Even though she was threatening and ensuring Wyvios' plans goes unheard, a small part of the Kitsune was able to read through her. She'd went along, letting herself be dragged to her own chambers. Unbeknownst, however, was that she left behind a Talisman, one that can hear over the rest of the conversation while she was away, distracting Koina by coming along freely.

"I'll do it... but not just for the sake of our attempts in Calibren..." Mawkin replied, letting his stance stay firm as he'd begin to descend, the paper slowly floating onto his overall's pocket to avoid being detected when he came down.

"I'm sure you'll do a wonderful job. My associates shall ensure whatever you need can and WILL be provided. Should we have some issues on the line, do not be afraid to call them. Don't disappoint me... Son of Sozo..." Wyvios sneered, his expression of twisted amusement, as he secured another person to assist him in his quest to deliver the Second Sun unimpeded. As the man left, however, Mawkin would look out to the 'sky', his hand holding a small doll. He'd look down upon it, seeing the small facial features he made within the straw. The face of his Father imprinted on it.

"I won't... Not now, not ever. Not until I get his smile... I'm so sorry for forgetting my purpose..." He'd mumble, gripping the doll hard, almost breaking the straw within, before putting it away and embracing the false 'sun' rising overhead.
