Chapter Four: Old Red Town Road
I saw his blood splatter across the window.
Bang!
What was I to do? My eyes shifted and I saw the female officer dead on the floor with her partner badly injured. The dark cop aimed the gun at me and I was overwhelmed. What would you have me do? Luscious…
"P-please…" Luscious begged me, badly hurt. I swear, I wanted to open the door for him but everything in me knew it was too late for him. I had to save myself— I knew that even before the gun fight. I never signed up for this. That's why my instincts told me to switch positions.
I STEPPED ON IT
I revved the car, zooming off the scene. My eyes traced to the side mirror and I could see the cop shoot Luscious multiple times after he had tried to attack. My heart currently squeezed into a knot.
What would you have me do? I was scared as fu*k!
I couldn't catch my breath. I began running out of oxygen, my eyes red, mind fuzzy, heart aching. I stepped on it moving faster. I couldn't see air to breath, I, Vanessa was heading towards death yet chased survival.
My mind raced to thousands of places, I know I'd soon have the cops chasing me and the night grew nigh.
'What do I do?' The day wore a dark clothe, I could hardly see anything. My headlight and the moon showed me the way. The road in front of me seemed lonely as it was, only few cars passed like three..
There's was a town rumoured to be ruled by a ruthless Alpha who didn't respect women. His name was Alpha Jaguar, he was a sex lord with slight madness. In front of the route to that town, I stood.
"Okay, Vanessa, you got this," I said to myself, removing the yellow 'Do not trespass' sign. There was a barbwired iron fence behind the sign all covered with grass. I used my hands to clear the area.
I breathed. I was a tough girl, I had to handle the situation. All I wanted was to fulfill my dreams I never thought I'd be in this mess.
If life was tough, I had to be tougher. After removing bush that obstructed the entrance, I opened the gate. I went back to my car and revved the vehicle. My eyes traced back to the blood on the window and the memory instantly flashed through my mind — when the bullet went off, Luscious' face.
His blood.
I drove into the town.
If I went back to the Den, what would I tell Alphred? That Alphred who already hated me, he would be happy to tell everyone I killed Luscious.
The curved roads were tarred, connected but leading to two separate paths. A stick with two signs in the middle faced opposite direction. One said, OLD RED TOWN and the other, JAGUAR CITY; which was also a town. This road I followed was illegal.
My fingers drummed on the stirring wheel as I remembered whom I wanted to see in this town. I followed the right road which was, THE OLD RED TOWN where someone so dear to me stayed.
Why no one was allowed to pass this road was because these neighbouring towns had a strict rule that no foreigner was allowed in the territory, the occupants were rebels to the Government.
I paused, r my dark blonde hair.
I drove for hours on the road. It was a miracle that no official was stationed to ask me questions. Obviously no one had dared passed this route in years.
I made a stop, parking the Mercedes near a hidden bushy area by the sandy side of the road. I drove down a hilly slope making sure my car was well hidden.
I walked for long into the town. The houses were fine. The streets enveloped by the town's unique architectural charm. The houses, a blend of Creole, Victorian, and Southern styles. Ornate ironwork balconies and galleries adorn the facades, while brightly colored walls and decorative shutters add a touch of whimsy.
Raised foundations elevate the homes. Large porches and verandas invite relaxation, providing shade and a spot to watch the world go by.
Not many people were outside, if anyone was out, I didn't see. I knocked on a door of a person's house. I didn't know where else to go, the only thought that came to my mind was to go to my sister's house.
She fled from home earlier than me, following this same route I took. That was how I knew of the illegal entrance.
I breathed bracing myself to be greeted by her presence.
It took a while until I heared, "Coming!" My eyes distended the more, that moment our gaze locked. She was dark skin, elegant with curves that could drive a man crazy, including women for I was stunned. She had a bit podgy cheeks with brown curly hair, her boobs were to die for, so round and perfect protruding from the night dress she wore. Her nipples were also visible through the light silver robe she covered herself in. "Vivian," She appeared shocked.
I stared at her with tears in my eyes. It's been exactly ( ) years since we last saw each other. Since she decided she was done with living in that house. She left me, I loved her and understood, yet I was angry.
I also left my mother's unborn baby, but what could possibly be done?
'Will she let me in?' My eyes gleamed with strong emotion.
A memory flashed through my mind. It was when my sister asked me, "Come with me. Let's leave this place," Veronica proposed.
Mother was a mess, I was too scared to leave, also the line of work my sister chose, I couldn't watch her live like that. I refused her invite criticizing her for choosing to be a courtesan in the rebel city.
That night, she snuck her way in leaving me behind. She had described where she'd live and now, after so many years I show up begging for her solace.
"What's brings you here?" That was what came out from her mouth. Not even a welcome, or I missed you. Veronica shifted backwards, I knew her too well, she'd never say come in, her movement passed the message. She had shifted for me to enter.
"Ronnie," my voice contained so much emotions, it was soft and humble.
"I asked a question," She folded her arms offering a stern look.
She's all grown, I'm sure she thinks the same of me.
"Ronnie, I missed you."
"Cut that crap. After all these years and you show up in front of my house. Whatcha doin here?!"
"I'm in trouble."
"I knew it. Vee won't come here unless she's in deep trouble. You're one selfish bitch, you know that."
"You're the one who left me!"
"You're the one who didn't wanna come."
"But you left me anyway."
"I mean, you saw it yourself that house was a wreck. Mama wasn't alright. Bitch, you chose your path for yourself and chose mine. Watcha here for?"
"I need a place to rest my head."
"You won't criticize me for being a whore anymore? You won't judge me for choosing to live this wreckless life?"
"Its Vanessa now."
"What?"
"I'm not Vivian anymore, it's Vanessa."
There was a bit silence. "I don't want any trouble."
"I swear, Ronnie, I won't bring that to you. I love and never stop thinking about you. You're the reason why I had the courage to leave."
A softer emotion flickered in her eyes. "You left? You see, Vee, I'm big here. I'm cool now. I have a life going on for myself, I don't want anyone to take that from me. The rules are strict here."
There was a big gap of silence. I could enter, but I didn't. I wanted her to tell me to. The silence was long, until, Veronica, my big sister pulled me in for a hug. "I missed you too, Vee." She was warm and smelled nice, like Vanilla. "Come in."
"Ronnie, I'm not ashamed of you,"
"Of course you're not. What's up withcha?"
I explained everything to her from start to finish and she was obviously shocked.
"What's in the car?" Veronica asked me.
"I don't know. I wanted you to check it out with me."
"Vee, I don't want any trouble."
"Ronnie, I have no one else."
She decided to follow me to where my car was.
We stared at the boothe. I was never ready to open it.
"Open it," Ronnie commanded.
What I saw in the boothe, when I looked the body bag… You'd never believe me… it was.
I walked loudly, faling on the floor with a broken heart. I couldn't believe it was Lord Serio's body in the boothe.
