"This guy…"
Terrance raised an eyebrow, looking at Mew in mild surprise.
That Mew could use Transform move to such a degree truly exceeded Terrance's expectations.
Watching Mew happily transform again and again, and having the time of its life, Terrance, perhaps influenced by it, gave a faint smile and gradually felt his mood improve.
After a while, Mewtwo returned.
It had only been a short time since Mewtwo left, yet its efficiency was astonishing.
When Mewtwo came back to New Island, the first one it paid attention to was not Terrance, nor Mew, but Ralts.
Seeing Mewtwo's focus shift to Ralts, Terrance immediately began to explain.
"This child… for some reason, has lost the ability to express emotions."
Walking to Ralts's side, Terrance spoke softly.
"I hope it can, like other Pokémon, experience joy, anger, sorrow, and happiness…"
Terrance's wish was simple, not demanding too much. He just hoped Ralts could be like a normal Pokémon, able to freely express its emotions. As a clone, it had already lost more than ordinary Pokémon. If even its feelings were stripped away, then no matter how great its potential, that was not something Terrance wanted to see.
"Mew?"
Mew flew over as well, circling Ralts curiously, peering at it.
Mewtwo stayed silent, though it seemed to be contemplating Ralts's situation.
"I'll give it a try."
Finally, Mewtwo's telepathic voice echoed as it stretched out its arm, palm facing Ralts, and closed its eyes.
In the next instant, a blue Confusion wave formed in its palm, turning into a gentle pulse that enveloped Ralts.
Terrance was overjoyed that Mewtwo was willing to help, but what he hadn't expected was that Mew also seemed eager to get involved. Mew's action gave Terrance quite a fright.
Worried that the scatterbrained Mew might interfere with Mewtwo, Terrance hurried to stop it, but he was still a step too slow.
Mew's intervention was sudden, but fortunately, Mewtwo wasn't disturbed, nor did it show any reaction, which made Terrance breathe a huge sigh of relief.
Like Mewtwo, Mew gathered a purple Confusion wave, mimicking Mewtwo as it enveloped Ralts. Under the intertwining blue and purple Confusion waves, Ralts slowly lifted its head toward Terrance, a pained expression crossing its face.
Seeing this, Terrance was startled and almost rushed to stop Mewtwo and Mew, but suddenly froze.
Ever since he had caught Ralts, it had always worn a blank expression, no matter if it was injured or undergoing grueling training. This was the first time Terrance had ever seen it show pain.
Because of that, even though Ralts looked to be in agony, Terrance, while worried, didn't immediately stop Mewtwo and Mew.
It's working…
As the Confusion waves from Mewtwo and Mew were transmitted, it seemed as though Ralts was undergoing some sort of metamorphosis. This could very well be the key moment for it to regain the ability to express emotions.
"Ralts, you can do it!!"
Silently praying for Ralts in his heart, Terrance kept his gaze fixed on Ralts' changes, not looking away for even a second as time slowly passed.
When Ralts's expression gradually eased from pain into calm, Terrance still didn't know exactly what was happening, but what came next caused his eyes to widen in astonishment.
Under the entwining influence of the two unique Confusion, Ralts' body must have received an immense stimulus, as signs of evolution began to appear!
Under the fusion of purple Confusion, blue Confusion, and the light of evolution, Ralts began to evolve.
As the white light bathing Ralts grew stronger, the purple and blue Confusion wave that had wrapped around it began to dissipate. After that, Mewtwo suddenly opened its eyes and looked at Ralts with a calm expression.
At the same time, Mew also stopped and turned to watch the evolving Ralts.
The thoughts of the two of them were both difficult for Terrance to fathom.
What's happening?
Ralts's talent was the strongest among Terrance's Pokémon; relying on Calm Mind alone, its growth rate outpaced Terrance's other Pokémon. Since he had captured Ralts, it had been progressing at a high speed, which made it hard to know exactly when to let it evolve; even Terrance, as a Breeder, couldn't figure it out.
Because he couldn't see Ralts's limits, Terrance couldn't set a clear goal when laying its foundation. But now that Mew and Mewtwo had together created an opportunity for evolution, Terrance no longer felt so conflicted.
Now, Ralts was evolving.
As the light of evolution spread, the white body of the Kirlia that Ralts evolved into gradually appeared before Terrance.
Kirlia, looking as if wearing a short ballet skirt, had slender legs. Its hair no longer completely covered its eyes like Ralts's; instead it resembled bangs that drooped to the sides. Its two red horns had also shifted position to the sides of its head, now looking like a pair of hair clips, almost like a young girl.
"Gall~ade!!"
Seeing Ralts evolve, Gallade nodded slightly; aside from Terrance, it was the first witness to Ralts's growth all along.
However, before Terrance could enjoy Ralts's evolution for long, Mewtwo's telepathic voice responded inside his mind, causing his expression to turn grave.
"Is there really nothing that can be done?"
"No," came the reply. "There's nothing we can do. It appears no different from a normal Pokémon. Even if Mew and I gave it greater power to help it better control its body, we still couldn't restore the ability to express emotions that you mentioned."
Mewtwo's words caused Terrance's heart to sink.
Could Ralts really only be like this?
Terrance frowned, but after looking at Kirlia, his expression gradually eased. Fine, one step at a time. As long as he and his Pokémon treated Kirlia sincerely, even if it couldn't outwardly show its emotions, it would still be able to feel them.
"Kirlia, how do you feel after evolving?"
Terrance smiled and walked to Kirlia's side, reaching out and patting its head as he had before.
Kirlia transmitted via Telepathy; that unchanged tone answered in Terrance's mind, and he gave a slight nod.
Although Kirlia didn't show any major changes now, the pained expression it had worn while Mewtwo and Mew were helping it gain strength had been real.
Terrance believed that, just as he had helped Gallade, sooner or later he would be able to make everything right for Kirlia.
"Mewtwo, you're not planning to take Kirlia away now, are you?"
Terrance asked suddenly, looking toward Mewtwo as it gazed out at the sea.
"Even if I wanted to take it, it probably wouldn't choose me anyway." With that, Mewtwo shook its head and called the four Cloned Pokémon from the castle.
Venusaur, Charizard, Blastoise, Meowth.
The first three of these Cloned Pokémon had been intentionally created by Mewtwo; the last one, Meowth, had been born by accident. When the four Cloned Pokémon came to Mewtwo's side, Mewtwo said, "I'm taking them with me. Once I have become the strongest, I will appear before humans again."
