Chapter 624 - Terrance' Breeder Level

"Gym Leader Terrance of Fallarbor Gym in the Hoenn region. He is a Gym Leader as well as a Top Coordinator... Not long ago, during the Super Festival jointly held by the Pokémon League and Contest Committee, he defeated the former Electric-type Elite Four Leo from the Unova region in a 3-on-3 battle. He is just 15 years old. If you're still saying a rising star like him only qualifies to be a Senior Breeder... we might as well go find a Ditto to run into and die."

Tory let out a forced laugh and cracked a joke while he was at it.

"Terrance…" Suzie nodded, not expecting him to be such a famous person. She didn't really follow the news, so this was the first time she learned anything about Terrance.

Even just hearing about him made her deeply admire him. A genius like that was destined to live in a completely different world from ordinary people.

"Alright, let's go." Tory shook his head helplessly and said.

...

...

For the Senior Breeder exam, Terrance pulled strings with the International Police, the Pokémon League, and the Breeder Association.

He had never even taken the Intermediate Breeder license exam before, and now he planned to skip straight to the Senior Breeder exam. There had never been a precedent for this since the Breeder Association was founded.

"Rules are made by people. The matter of the totem aura is extraordinary. Just go ahead and take the exam. Since there are benefits involved, everyone's happy for you to become a Senior Breeder as soon as possible." Master Victor smiled as he spoke.

Terrance had negotiated with the International Police, who promised him quite a few benefits.

Among them, the two most valuable in Terrance's eyes were a certain amount of Sparkling Stones and the Mega Evolution items for Gallade.

"The International Police is really generous…"

Before the exam, Terrance recalled the negotiations he had with them and smiled to himself.

He knew that these rewards were probably thanks to an acquaintance pulling strings for him.

"Mr. Looker."

Seeing the man in a brown trench coat slowly approaching, Terrance called out.

"Terrance, it's been a while," said Mr. Looker from the International Police with a touch of emotion.

"Yeah, thanks for your earlier help with Rina's matter," Terrance replied.

"It was just a small matter. More importantly, for choosing to hand over the totem aura technology to the International Police, I want to thank you first." Mr. Looker took off his hat and expressed his thanks to Terrance.

"You're being too serious, Mr. Looker," Terrance said with a wry smile, quickly trying to stop him.

"Haha." Mr. Looker chuckled.

Terrance shrugged helplessly. To be honest, this world was a lot more complicated than he had imagined.

At first, when he transmigrated over, Terrance had thought this was just a fantasy world where humans and Pokémon lived in harmony. But as his knowledge expanded…

Alternate dimensions, Spirit World, Distortion World, Ultra Space…

So many things appeared that amazed Terrance, things even the people of this world hadn't fully explored.

Ultra Beasts were creatures from another world that could pose a threat to this world. The totem aura, which Terrance had created by accident, might be important or might not, but because of its connection to the Ultra Beasts, it gained significant reference value to the International Police.

Through Master Victor's connections, Terrance first took the written test for the Intermediate Breeder exam.

This process didn't take Terrance much time at all. In fact, it could be said the entire process was a breeze for him.

The knowledge required for an Intermediate Breeder was no longer advanced for someone like Terrance.

Ever since he mastered the meditation method, his memory has been improving continuously.

"The Blinding One..."

As the prerequisite for the Senior Breeder exam, he was currently undergoing a private Intermediate Breeder exam...

Terrance recalled the myth he had heard from Mr. Looker.

"Necrozma, huh."

"Damn it, so the Island Kahuna Nanu knew all about this all along…" Terrance held his forehead.

Back when he asked Nanu about it during his Island Challenge, he had brushed him off!

The three Legendary Pokémon that once descended upon the Alola region in ancient times may have been Ultra Beasts. Island Kahuna Nanu had guessed this from the beginning.

At the Breeder headquarters, inside a room.

Terrance followed two examiners to a Slakoth.

This was the second part of the Intermediate Breeder exam, after the written test - observation and identification.

Looking at the Pokémon, lying motionless on the floor like a sloth even with people around, a dark line appeared on Terrance's forehead. Slakoth's brown-gray fur and brown markings made it look even more like a rag strewn across the ground. It had practically merged into the floor.

"Alright," Terrance spoke.

"So fast?!" The two Breeders acting as his examiners were shocked.

It had only been 10 seconds since Terrance laid eyes on Slakoth.

"First, the pink on the nose is too dull, this indicates it hasn't come into contact with water much. A normally developing Slakoth should occasionally swim long-distance in rivers, which aligns with the natural growth process." Terrance began.

"Second, the brown rings around its eyes are too deep, likely a sign of insufficient rest. Slakoth must get ample sleep; otherwise, it hampers development. Its laziness is often joked about, but these habits are actually results of natural selection in Pokémon."

"Third, the claws are too straight. Judging by the curvature, it's likely been captured for about two years. Slakoth enjoy hooking their claws onto branches to sleep, but this one clearly hasn't used its claws in a long time and hasn't received any other training either. That makes it ill-suited for performing certain moves."

"That's three points. That should be enough," Terrance said.

Seeing the surprised expressions on the two Breeder examiners, Terrance paused. Uh…

"Not bad, absolutely perfect," one of the examiners nodded…. As expected, he was impressive.

Even if they did the observing themselves, it would probably take them much longer to identify three deficiencies in this Slakoth. Terrance had done it in just ten seconds, which was more than enough to demonstrate his terrifying observational skill and astonishing knowledge base.

"The next Pokémon is Ponyta."

"Hmm…" Looking at the Ponyta, Terrance furrowed his brow slightly. With this one, he'd need to make physical contact to assess it properly.

He stepped forward and came up beside Ponyta, putting on a warm, friendly smile.

Soon, he had reached a conclusion.

"The hair on its head isn't as neat as the rest. It's a sign of poor development. It needs nutritional supplements."

"The hardness of its hooves is lacking, it hasn't had enough running exercise."

"Most importantly, its leg muscles are uncoordinated…"

When a Ponyta is born, it can't even stand properly. But in order to keep up with its parents, it develops leg strength by falling and chasing repeatedly.

Normally, uncoordinated leg muscles shouldn't occur… This Ponyta was clearly an unusual case.

Terrance had to identify deficiencies in three randomly drawn Pokémon to prove his breeder competence. This was quite a test for a Breeder. But as the exam went on, the two examiners overseeing Terrance became more and more astonished.

Even just based on Terrance's current observation skills alone, he'd already be more than qualified to work as a professional Breeder.
