Chapter 12 - Magicule Count Test.

{2 days later}

Within the infirmary room where a lot of cadets currently laid either on the verge of regaining consciousness or still in a deep slumber within a few nurses tending to them.

Among the cadets there were 2 special individuals who had long arisen from their slumber and were currently staring at each other from across the room with animosity that it began to affect the other cadets.

Before they could make any moves on each other they suddenly looked towards the sole entrance of the infirmary and they were shocked to see their Lieutenant Commander but upon further thought it seemed to make sense with all the ruckus they had caused it was a miracle they were not executed for disobeying the rules.

"You two come with me." Lieutenant Aloin pointed at the both of them, gesturing them to follow him and heeding his command they rose to their feet although with a bit of struggle evident it seemed they had not fully healed from their battle either.

Once they were out of the infirmary alongside the Lieutenant he suddenly began to speak.

"Do you know your actions put this entire camp at risk, for what? Some petty arrogance and pride, for that you risked the lives of every cadet in here including mine. Your little stunt brought Brigadier Commander Vorth over here. He is the type of person who would have no qualms destroying this entire camp and summing it all up to 'war casualties' for the sin of annoying him. You are both so lucky that he saw potential in you two, Potential that if you fail to bring out once again he will kill you he has asked me to keep a keen eye on you both. While I do not know what he sees in either of you I have to obey him or else my head would not be attached by the morning. From the witness reports I have gathered Cadet 0982 you seemed to be the aggressor in this instance. From now on you are to be separated from the rest of the main squad till I declare that you have gained some sense of camaraderie. While you cadet 0916 are to report to me your whereabouts at the end of every day till I say you are no longer required to. Have I made myself clear!?"

""Yes sir!"" Both Mahald and Kaiser responded.

'Well isn't this just great not up to a week in and I have already put such a big target on my back all because of this idiot right here. Well I wouldn't say it was all bad it was an enlightening experience now I know there are other abilities which are on the same level if not better than mine. Also the Brigadier Commander had such strength. To stop both of us alone with just his presence. I am way out of my league in a fight. The need for more information grows more and more.' Mahald thought in agony as he made his way back to the barracks and upon entering he was met with averted eyes and everyone seemed to have some sort of fear of him.

Quickly tidying up himself he once again let himself off to the land of dreams unbeknownst to him his tormenting headache had long ceased and his mind was clear and fresh once again.

The morning came as soon as the night fell all the cadets were once again on the field where the event had previously occurred however if one paid more attention to the crowd they would be able to tell the rest of the cadets were singling out a single male who just stood there with a bored look on his face.

'Well there goes my chance of befriending any of this squad's cadets.." Mahald lamented within his mind as he then looked up to see the Lieutenant Colonel walking up to the podium with some other people behind him carrying futuristic looking machines.

"I know some of you do not wish to be here but that is none of my concern it is my duty as leader of this squadron to polish you and make you all into fine warriors and today we are going to be determining what you focus should be here some of you might have magical aptitude and some of you are probably more physical oriented. Now begin stepping up to test your Magicle count and Magic Affinity." After Lieutenant Aloin finished talking people began stepping up in order to begin the testing.

"I will demonstrate first off." The Lieutenant walked up to the machine and placing his palm upon a groove specifically designed for that purpose as if coming to the life the machine whirred up as colourful lights arose from the machine as it continued to do so for about 10 seconds before it finally died down and gave a result [D-Rank Magicle Count] [Affinity:Fire 20%, Wind:5%...].

"As you can see it says I have D-rank Magicle Count that means I do not have the requirements to be a mage as a mage would at least require a C-rank magicle count even then they would only be a low tiered mage at best. The same also applies for affinity; it is recommended you have at least 50% and above in any affinity before you decide to pursue a certain school of magic. So you all can see the stringent conditions it takes to be a mage not only do you have to possess C-rank magic power you also have to possess a strong affinity for an element. Do not fret if you are not able to meet these requirements. That is the reason mages are rare, strong ones even rarer." After finishing up with showing the cadets the steps required to take the cadets began the testing but were met with a resounding failure.

"[E-Rank Magicle Count] [Affinity:Water 43%, Earth 22%....]"

"[D-Rank Magicle Count] [Affinity:Fire 15%, Holy 5%...]"

"[B-Rank Magicle Count] [Affinity:Wind 55%, Fire 52%....]"

"[F-Rank Magicle Count] [Affinity:Water 63%, Earth 12%....]"

"[C-Rank Magicle Count] [Affinity:Earth 22%, Fire 15%....]"

"[C-Rank Magicle Count]..."

Out of 600 cadets that had gone up so far no more than 20 had shown talent to be a magic user with only about 6 of those 20 showing aptitude above C-Rank and Affinity ratings over 55%.

Now the time came for our protagonist to take the test he quietly walked up as his results were one of the more anticipated ones as he drew closer and closer to the device. During this time Mahald had different thoughts running through his head.

'How interesting this whole magic and affinity test thing seems to truly be intriguing however what's more interesting is this machine. How was it made and what is it made of? He had tried using [Model Deconstruction] and [Hyper Analysis] to find out anything he could about the machine but he had failed to obtain any info from the machine. I need to get a steady source of knowledge. I know there is a library within the army. I have heard other cadets talk about it but I do not know exactly where it is located. It seems I will just have to ask the Lieutenant directly at the meeting tonight.' His mind continued to roll out thoughts as before he himself realised it he was already at the machine.

"Please put your hand on the machine" The lady operating it commanded.

Quickly adhering to her command he put his hand on the machine as it soon began to whirl as a resplendent glow of lights and colours shone from the device and temporarily blinded the rest of the cadets. After a few minutes the results seemed to be out as on the display it showed….

"[A-Rank Magicule Count][Affinity:Space: 92% Fire 57%....]"

Upon this being shown to everyone even the Lieutenant whistled in awe. This was simply sheer talent as while others had been struggling to barely scratch the surface of C-Rank he had surpassed that and he even had a whooping 92% affinity for spatial magic. To put that into perspective the best Spatial mages capable of teleporting thousands of people and doing all sorts of inhuman feats their affinity only barely managed to reach 90 percent yet this boy had managed to go 2 whole percent over that.

After his stunning results the rest of the cadets once again felt useless in comparison as no matter how good they did they always seemed to fall short of the youth.

Out of all the cadets who had participated only 55 had shown potential to become a Mage. and of those 55 only 12 had high aptitudes of above C-rank Magic power and above 55% affinity rates.

Gathering the 55 who had shown the sufficient aptitude to be a mage the Lieutenant had a subtle frown on his face upon seeing a certain black haired boy among the fray of potential magicians. Releasing a heavy sigh within his mind he pondered what to do with the boy. He couldn't send him to the mage division because he had been ordered to keep an eye on the youth.

'Why does he keep causing me headaches…' The lieutenant thought while trying to find a solution to the current problem.

'I will have him go to both the mage division and stay with the 21st squadron. I shall take reports from the leader of that division too.' Finally deciding on a course of action for the eccentric youth he then turned to his obligations in the other cadets.

"For those who do not meet the requirements for the Mage division fret not it is simply one art out of many. Tomorrow we shall formally begin training and I will teach the rest of you an art called [Battlewill]." the lieutenant said.

Gesturing the rest of the cadets who had aptitude for being a mage he decided to address them differently away from the other cadets.

"Congratulations you have all shown the sufficient potential to be a mage thus you have a whole new world filled with opportunities open to you. You have been blessed with talent from here on out. It depends on your hard work and how far you are willing to go to achieve your goals. I wish you all best of luck over at the mage division." After the slightly emotional farewell the Lieutenant gestured at Mahald urging him to stay.

"I will allow you to go over to the Mage division but I will be implementing some rules for you. I have your daily check-ins monthly now and you will also be here for the other training. Am I clear cadet?"

"Yessir"

-{Mahald's POV}-

While I can guess why the Lieutenant would want to keep me within a close line of sight, But not to this extent there must be something I am missing.

Lord, my lack of knowledge about this world is truly frustrating. I don't know how much longer I can take being this clueless. To make an ample comparison would be having the latest most coveted model of a phone just to realize it doesn't have an operating system or any apps.

Truly aggravating, I have gained some basic information from the eavesdropping I occasionally do but not enough of a steady foundation to base myself in this world.

I hope this so-called Mage division has something good for me. Ironically the Lieutenant's method works for me. I get to learn about both [Magic] and [Battlewill].

While I had some basic ideas on magic and how it functions they are all still theories at best. Within the forest I encountered a few monsters who had the ability to do supernatural things. Like wolves who could send blades of condensed winds that were able to cut down trees. That's where I got the inspiration for the technique [Sever] before I had unintentionally made it a skill.

So this might be a good learning experience nonetheless. I still wonder what happened to the other youth…well that's none of my business now just focus on what I need to do and avoid placing a bigger target on my back.

While in my thoughts I had followed the group of prospective mages led by a sagely old man. I have to say he really fits the bill of a great old magician. We all quickly arrived in front of a large tower. This is becoming more and more cliché by the second I feel like a character in a fantasy series.

"Welcome young ones, You have all shown the potential and talent to become one of the most coveted profession's within the empire and out." Oh wow that's good to know. I am really starting to appreciate my new found magical talent more and more.

"Now most of you here have no concept of magic but worry not you will be taught all you need to know about magic from the foundations to making your own spells." A lot of clamoring began at the sound of that as the cadets began to talk to each other about various things.

"I understand all of you must be excited to begin casting spells and such but the basics are the foundation of any mage. Today we are simply going to talk about the types of mages and the types of magic and a basic rundown on the system of magic.." Listening attentively here as any opportunity and chance to gain new knowledge is very crucial. Perking up my ears expectantly at the incoming information.

"So within the world there are known to be 10 main classes of Magic one could take it all depending on your aptitude and which particular route you desire. These classes are:

Sorcerer: These are mages capable of using various forms of Elemental Magic's such as wind and fire.

Shaman: These are magics that utilize Spiritual Magic.

Maya: These are mages capable of using a special subset of elemental magic known as Illusion Magic.

Enchanter: These are mages capable of using engraving magic to give magical properties to items.

Holy Knight: These are mages who utilize Holy Magic.

Summoner: These are mages that specialize in summoning magic.

Elementaler: These are mages that form a combination of Spiritual Magic and Summoning Magic to summon and contract Elementals.

Magician: These are mages that have learned at least two different types of magic

Wizard: These are mages that have mastered three or more different types of magic

Saint Wizard: These are Wizards who have also mastered Holy Magic." The speaker took a pause as if to let those listening take in the information and truly process it.

How interesting, So many sub classifications of the Mage profession truly allows for diversity. It seems you can choose more than one specialization as to be a Magician or a Wizard you would be required to have mastered more types of magics.

"Now that you all know about the basic sub division of the Mage profession, We shall move on unto Magicule Handling. As many of you might know, monsters and other species all have a higher capacity for magicules than humans do thus this leads us to be more deliberate in how we choose to handle the little magicules we do possess. This leads us to two methods of Magicule handling.

External and Internal.

For external based handling we use the surrounding magicules in the air and other sources to supplement our own in order to cast spells.

While for internal based handling a feat very very few humans have been able to achieve. This is gaining an internal magicule storage. This enables them to cast spells without relying on the magicules within the surroundings." Hmm interesting system the people of this world have set up here with the Magicule handling idea. But that also begs the question wouldn't anyone be able to become a mage if all it required was being able to control the surrounding Magicules. Keeping my question to myself for now I waited until the man finished talking before springing it up on him.

"Now that you all have the basics of Magic handling and the different routes a mage could take. It is time to get into what magic truly is.

Simply put Magic is the realization of an 'idea' alongside specific laws and rules into the real world.

For example take the idea of blowing things away the realization of that idea into the real world would be in the form of wind. There are also different types of magic too:

Elemental Magic: This class of magic functions by imposing an idea onto the surrounding magicles using the casters mental energy alongside a bit of their magicles in order to form physical phenomena such as fires and ice.

Spiritual Magic: This is similar to Elemental magic but instead of imposing the idea on the surrounding magicules this idea is communicated onto a contracted Elemental. Using the casters energy as a catalyst the spirit's power can be exercised.

Holy Magic: This is an especially tricky class of magic as it works on the basis of 'Faith' and 'Miracles'.

But in essence it requires the user to communicate with only the Holy aspect of magicules in order to perform various acts.

Summoning Magic: This is a class of magic that involves summoning a living creature from another plane of reality using an anchor. Now the anchor can vary from summoner to summoner but it is usually needed to be able to sustain the beings existence on our plane of reality.

Engraving Magic: This is magic that allows its user to give certain properties to items which allows them to use 'Engraved' techniques and skill without the wielder's subsequent knowledge of them.

Illusion Magic: A special subset of Elemental Magic mixed in with Spiritual Magic. This magic functions by manipulating the spiritual aspect of being in order to achieve a wide variety of effects.

Now there are also a lot of secret or hidden classes of magic but these are the most widespread ones most mages know about. I have given you the basic information required to make a choice on which type of Mage and what class of Magic you all wish to study. You all have till tomorrow to make your choice and you may choose any number of classes to study but remember the journey to becoming a true mage is long and arduous it is advised you start small then slowly expand. I will be taking any questions you have tomorrow." That was a lot to take in , But with me being myself I had already begun to think of the best way to make use of my magical talent and I finally arrived at the best class of magic and what type of mage I want to be. It was simple, really I chose to be…

A/N: Might take a break next week.
