A day later within the same courtyard. There lay all the head's of the various magic schools alongside the mages that had chosen to follow their school of magic.
"Welcome once again young mages today is truly the start of your path to becoming real mages. Now you will follow your various teachers to where you will learn about your path," Said Arian.
After a bit of murmuring and excited moaning's the courtyard was soon empty leaving only the Wizard Arian and Mahald on the courtyard alone as an awkward silence permeated the air as they made eye contact with each other.
"So you may be wondering how you are going to learn from all the heads. Well you're in luck as I happen to be free recently and I am quite interested in you so I will be teaching you the 4 Schools of Magic I happen to know. "The wizard said while maintaining eye contact with the youth.
"Yessir."The youth replied happily.
Suddenly Arian attempted to grab Mahald's shoulder which led to the youth involuntarily moving backwards dodging the shoulder grab which led to a derisive smirk from Arian.
'Even though I did enhance my body with Magicles to still be able to react to me at such an age is impressive in and of itself. You get more interesting by the second, young one.'
"Do not fret. I am simply taking you to the place where you will learn. My domain of personal knowledge."
Mahald's face seemed to be filled with skepticism as he looked at the old wizard with a face filled with questioning a look that Arian picked up on.
"Let me show you." Touching the youth's shoulder and feeling a rush of air the both of them suddenly disappeared from their previous spots without a trace.
-{Mahald Emrys POV}-
'I knew magic had a lot of potential but wow, Teleportation. That is just insane. If something like this is possible and effortless to Gandalf. The possibilities are limitless with magic.' I thought as I took in the scene around me. I seemed to be in a hall adorned with crystals all which shone a dazzling radiance a stark contrast to my previous location.
"Well aren't you impressed, Young one." Gandalf said as I swear I could see his nose perk up similar to pinocchio's when he tells a lie.
"Yes, This is certainly impressive, But I would like to begin training now." I looked upon Gandalf with a firm gaze.
"Well aren't you a hasty one, Well that is fine considering you have 1 year before you, you know.." he said as he gestured his thumb going across his neck. But he is right though I do not have that much time and thus I have to make use of whatever I have got wisely.
"I understand that you are in a rush but first things first, Introductions my name is Arian. What about you young one?" While his use of the term young one was slightly starting to get on my nerves, I realized I needed him more than he did me. So I have no other options but to go along with his whims for now.
"My name is Mahald Emrys." While skeptical to share my name at first I realized if he had the means to teleport he definitely had the means to tell if I was lying or not and I do not want to risk the consequences of that.
"Well then Disciple Mahald. I will be your Master from now on and I expect you to refer to me as such." This Gandalf wannabe irritates me so much he is the embodiment of my personal pet peeves in a person. But I had to swallow down my pride in order to live.
"Yes Master Arian." I replied flatly.
"Now that that's out of the way let us formally begin training. Now the 4 schools I will be teaching you are Elemental Magic,Spiritual Magic,Engraving Magic and Summoning Magic. You may decide which you want to learn first but my personal recommendation would be to start with Spiritual Magic due to its simplistic nature and less complex use of magicules then slowly make your way into the other schools."
I took in all he said as I was impressed at his mastery of this many school's and I thought about his recommendation and while it would be good to take things one at a time that is a luxury I cannot afford I had to show them what I could do and learn one school of magic at once isn't enough. Although I do not know the standard of things here I do know learning 4 schools of magic at once is sure to get some heads turning and some eyes on me.
"I have taken your recommendation into account and I have decided to learn all 4 schools at once." I declared firmly and with as much determination I could put out.
"Aren't you ballsy? You do know if you decide on this path you might waste more time than you would have with the previous one."
"Yes I have taken this into consideration and I have made my choice."
"Very well then. Let's begin. So how much do you know about Magic..No.. How much do you know about Arts in general?" He questioned
"Not much, Only that they are a way for humans to get stronger," I answered honestly.
"While that much is true. This doesn't apply to just humans; other races can use arts too, not just humans.
Arts are techniques performed solely through the users capabilities without assistance. There are various types of Arts but most fall into two categories Martials Arts or Aura Arts and Magic Arts." Well that's interesting. I wonder if I would be able to learn both or am I just limited to one or the other.
"Now we move onto Skills. I heard the Lieutenant had explained a bit on them." Managing to hide my shock from his personal relationship with the lieutenant I answered.
"He explained the different types of skills and how to gain them."
"At least you have surface level knowledge of them. Now to explain the relationship between Skills and Arts. They are sort of the antithesis to each other. Arts being a culmination of a person's techniques while Skill are abilities given to us by the world. But they share another relationship apart from being direct counterparts to each other."
"And that is?" I questioned excitedly.
"Skills can be used to create, improve and implement arts and vice versa. So those who are given Skill's usually create Art's using their own skills as the foundation of that. Certain Art's require specific skills to be able to function or even learn."
"Does Magic require a specific skill in order to learn?"
"Well not a skill per se but an ability, The ability to sense the magicules in the air."
"How interesting." I had accidentally said out loud.
"Interesting indeed. Now for your first task you will be sensing the dormant magicules in the air. I will release the hold on my magicules in short bursts in order to prevent you from suffering from magicule poisoning."
"I am ready." The moment I ended the statement I immediately regretted it as it seemed as if I was not ready as I suddenly collapsed to the floor gasping for air as I struggled to form a coherent thought. My mind seemed on the verge of collapse as I was on the verge of collapsing from sheer exhaustion.
"MAHALD PUSH THROUGH IT!! FIND IT THROUGH ALL OF IT FIND THE ESSENCE. YOU CAN DO IT COMMON." Arian shouted trying to encourage me but I could barely even process what he was saying.
I was tired. I could barely focus on myself not to mention some mystical energy. I-I just want to sleep….
Those were my last thoughts before I had passed out from the sheer exhaustion.
{Narrator's POV}
"It seems my enthusiasm wasn't enough to get him to sense it. Could I have been wrong about him?" Arian said as his gaze fell onto the boy questioning a lot as he looked closely on the boy's visage being drowned by sweat.
"Well it usually takes a few tries in order to sense the dormant magicules in the air, We will resume tomorrow. But I don't wanna carry him and using magic is too much of a hassle. Meh, I'll just leave him there. Ohh yeah I gotta tell that bastard Aloin about this. He is my disciple now so it makes sense for him to stay with him from now on right? Who cares what that bastard thinks anyway." Arian said out loud while cursing the absent lieutenant colonel.
While Arian was currently neglecting his new appointed student said student was currently facing an unusual scenario. Mahald was once again within the endless expanse of space one devoid of all light and colour and yet within the space there was one being who's visage was seen as clear as day.
"You are so weak. Not just physical strength but mentally too. You are pathetic scum, useless wastes like you disgust me the most-."
"SHUT UP!!"
"Why should I? I know I am right and you know what you need to do yet you hesitate, yet you refuse. Why do you do that? At this rate you are going to get yourself killed and all that potential gone just like that. And it would all be your fault ."
"SHUT UP OK!!! YOU'RE WRONG, YOU'RE WRONG! YOU'RE WRONGGGG!" Mahald screamed and he suddenly shot up awake in the real world.
"Hoh. My disciple maybe you aren't as useless as I thought after all." said Arian in an enthusiastic voice as he beckoned towards Mahald.
'What is he talk–Ugh what the fuck is that, That is the worst headache I have felt in a while my whole head feels like exploding.' Mahald clutched his head as a flurry of memories came back to him alongside a splitting headache. After taking a minute to compose himself and clean up his previously messy visage he looked upon his Master and uttered one word alone.
"Again." Mahald said in a voice brimming in determination and carrying a trace of apathy.
"Are you sure young one? After your reaction last time you look like you need some rest, we can resume tomorrow." trying to bargain with the youth Arian looked onto the face of the youth staring at his Azure blue eyes that carried untold determination but also another hidden dangerous element.
"Again." Mahald said in a flat tone as he beaconed towards Arian once again.
"Are you sure about this? Just to be clear, I won't be responsible for your death if you pass away due to recklessness." Arian warned.
"Acknowledged.Again." Mahald said with a more assertive tone this time.
"Ok."
As once again Mahald was dropped to his knees unable to breath as his thoughts were once again clouded by the sheer pressure but unlike the previous attempt he was able to maintain a part of his thoughts as he chanted a phrase to himself a phrase over and over again as his azure eyes carried a dangerous hint of gray within them.
'Find it! Find it! Come on! Come one!' Mahald screamed at himself as he closed his eyes in an attempt to feel past the overwhelming pressure as he thought about where the pressure was coming from and how it felt and seemingly like puzzle pieces it all fell into place as Mahald had managed to sense beyond the overbearing aura and beyond it lay a beautiful scene as he saw a cascading display of lights each with their own glow it was a scene straight out of a fairytale and soon he was snapped back to reality ton the boisterous voice of his Master.
"Congratulations, Young one you managed to sense the magicules within the air, all on your first day too. I must say I am thoroughly impressed you are definitely talented although not as great as me!!"Arian proclaimed boldly.
Unbeknownst to the braggart mage his student had long passed out from exhaustion as he quietly laid on the floor of the huge building.
This was going to be the start of the training Mahald would later look back on and herald as a major turning point in his ascension.
