Chapter 6 - Those Who Passed

Jesse watched in terror a deep frown forming across his face as the water was about to crush Alex and just before it engulfed him he could see two large green spikes of aura shoot flying past him leaving a gust of wind as fierce as a tornado in its wake. Crashing into the pillars of water leaving two gaping holes on either side of the bridge the water dispersed into the sky over all the new students it began to rain.

The headmaster then lifted Alex up using an unseen force. Bringing him over to the passing side with the rest of us.

"Self sacrifice in order to save a comrade is admirable. GRADE B." The crowd cheered as there was another student showing promise. Then the headmaster looked toward me.

"Acting after immediately processing the situation to guarantee the best result possible while looking out for one's teammates. GRADE A" the headmaster yelled waving his arms the bridge began to collapse and break into the river. Now there was a normal walkway to be crossed in its place.

"This test is now over everyone else will not receive a passing grade and is welcome to still attend our academy at a disadvantage or try again next year if we decide to give you another chance." Headmaster Zephyr narrowed his eyes at the students who didn't pass one more time before he turned to walk inside motioning for the five new students still outside to follow him while Alex was still being carried behind the professor fully passed out from exhaustion.

The rest of the students who were too afraid to attempt the bridge all rushed in at once making their way across through the walkway or swimming across the lake that no longer pulled them all down into the water. The ones without any fighting aptitude or high intelligence decided to walk back through the doors behind them to their old lives or got pulled under water and taken away by the mysterious hooded men.

Grade A huh. I dropped down to my knees. What's going to happen from here I wonder. I looked up to the school and followed the professor under the archway made from stone and stepped finally onto the inner part of the campus that was laid out with flowers and trees everywhere. Mini lakes flowing around multiple areas and the building up close was twice as large as it looked from far away. The headmaster disappeared with the first two who attempted the bridge and Alex inside as the rest of us followed.

Passing through the door the 3 of us were standing inside what looked to be an office and a huge one at that. It could almost be considered a mini library.

"I've explained the rules to the other students briefly who didn't pass but wished to stay as they will be starting with nothing but their brain and brawn joining in with the rest of the first years we already have. As for you all apart from Alex who is on his way to the nurses office here's how grades work in this academy grades are everything. From academics to trials and tests. Everything is graded here and that's how you get food as well as spells to train yourself. You'll have to do a lot of research to understand and use a spell correctly but the time for that will come later. For now the point system for grades are as follows."

A - 30 points.

B - 15 points.

C - 8 points.

D - 3 points.

E - 1 point.

F - 0 points.

Spells? Jesse thought back to the green aura that destroyed the pillars of water. Do we get to learn things such as that since we passed. That should also mean that the students here are either very dangerous or harmless depending on what we know. Jesse started to rub his temples as a small headache was coming on by everything he was taking in.

"I look forward to seeing what you will learn from here on out. As a special treat you 3 will be able to learn just one spell out of my office. If you have the points for it the book will let you take it out of here to study. If not then don't try to leave with it if you don't want to see anything bad happen to you due to counter spells and anti theft spells. After that any remaining points can be used to purchase anything you would like around the school if you wish." The headmaster explained sitting back and closing his eyes he waved his hands and all the books of 30 points or less started to glow different colors around the room.

"Before I forget, points aren't just used for magic but also the living of your new life so don't waste them. Also just because you choose to learn a book doesn't mean you will automatically be able to use a spell. Good luck, you'll learn more in time.

The three of us split up around the room.

Will I be able to learn things just as I was in the old world or will this be somewhat challenging? Jesse wondered as he eagerly started to search through book covers.
