Kotori: I still can't believe you three actually told everyone...
After the memorial service had ended, everyone had returned to their shelters, and at the Higanbana, Tanaka, Saki, Mirai, & Mizutani families shelter.
Kotori expressed her worry for Shino, Yuuka and Miku after they had told everyone that they had played a part to cause the end of the world.
Shino: We're sorry Kotori—
Kotori: Sigh~ I'm not angry okay? I'm just worried... You all sensed it didn't you? There some who are angry at you now, i don't want any of you to get hurt.
Yuuka: We know, but...
Kotori: I know, you already told me... Just please I'm worried about each and every one of you so don't do anything reckless that would get yourselves hurt.
Kotori was clearly upset with what Shino, Yuuka and Miku's confession worried that they would get hurt by fellow evacuees who would now blame them for their loved ones deaths.
She then turned to the adults in their shelter and scolded them.
Kotori: And Papa! Aiya-Mama! Aunties! Uncles! You shouldn't have allowed them to do something so reckless!
Atsuo: S-Sorry Kotori.
Aiya: We just... Thought it was for the best.
Kotori: Sigh~
Yuuki, Shiro, Jin & Genta: Sorry Kotori-chan.
Kotori: No... It's okay, I know you all had good intentions but still. Don't DON'T do anything reckless such as that again okay?

With her scolding now done, Kotori decided to go back to work.
Kotori: Well... I'll have to get back to leading the Council.
Atsuo: Nope. You're going to rest
Kotori: What?
Atsuo: You're overworking yourself Kotori, I'll take lead for now and you get some sleep.

Atsuo: Kotori... Please rest.
Looking into her father's eyes, Kotori reluctantly agreed.
Kotori: Fine... But if you need help just wake me up okay?

Aiya: I'll be going with Atsuo as well, someone has to take care of you after all dear.

Kotori: The staff room is behind the first-aid shelters.
Atsuo: Thanks. We'll be leaving now.

With Atsuo and Aiya now leaving to help lead the Council now that they made Kotori rest.

The Higanbana girls had already prepared their futons when they arrived first, so they helped the adults and Kotori set theirs so they could all go to sleep quicker.

With everyone's futons now set, everyone layed down as the lights were turned off.
Shino, Yuuka & Natsuki layed down in the middle between their parents, while Sachi beside her Mom.
And Kotori, Miku & Chikao slept side by side together and they closed their eyes and went to sleep.
But most of them didn't went to sleep immediately.

At the camp's staff room, Atsuo and Aiya was approached by one of the agents bringing in a report.

Agent: The Kaiju from hours ago... It's had been seen at Kyoto.
Aiya: Isn't that where Father and Mother-in-law are?!

Both Atsuo and Aiya got worried for Haruto and Shiori now that they know the Kaiju had appeared at Kyoto.
Atsuo: How was the evacuation?!
Agent: Luckily over 80% Of Kyoto's population had survived, including Haruto-sama and Shiori-sama.
Atsuo: Phew~ Thank goodness.
Aiya: But what about the Kaiju?
Agent: The Kaiju... Named Kaijira, It had kept the "Devils of the Fallen" at bey whole the evacuation was happening.
Atsuo & Aiya: What?
Agent: Nod~ We don't understand it ourselves, but the Devils of the Fallen seem to be more focused on killing Kaijira, and Kaijira seems to be prioritizing the safety of the people and the Council saving them.
Atsuo: Eh? What do you mean?
Agent: Here look, this footage was taken from one of the evacuees from Kyoto.
The agent gave Atsuo a tablet displaying footage of Kaijira protecting the people.

The footage showd a group of people that was about to be blasted by a devil of the fallen when Kaijira appeared in front of them and blocked the attack.

And by the way it's arms were positioned in the footage, the claim of Kaijira prioritizing the safety of the people was looking very likely.
Atsuo: It's the same as as earlier.
Aiya: Yeah...
Atsuo: Is the Council keeping track of this Kaiju?
Agent: Negative. We can't waste our resources on tracking that Kaiju when our top priority is to protect the people.
Atsuo: I understand... Sorry for asking that.
Agent: No worries. I'll be going back to my duties now.
With that the Agent left the two.
Aiya: Dear?
And after he had left, Aiya noticed something off with Atsuo.
Aiya: Is there something wrong?
Atsuo: No. Nothing, it's just...

Atsuo: Kaneki what happened?! Why are you covered in bruises?!
Kaneki: Some meanies were bullying Miku, so I beat them up!

Atsuo: I just really miss Kaneki... If that Kaiju had appeared sooner maybe Kaneki would still be with us.
Atsuo had wished that the Kaiju came sooner, and if it had maybe his son would still be alive.
Aiya: Oh... I understand.
Knowing that it was pointless to think about something they cannot control, Atsuo went back to focus on his own duties.
Atsuo: Well... Time to lead the Council.
Aiya: I'll try my best to help.
While Aiya helped him.
For the whole night, they lead the Council.
By giving instructions to help evacuate survivors, managing supplies for their camp along with many others.

Atsuo: Yawn~ Wow I really underestimated how much work leading the Council is. How does Kotori do this?
Atsuo was no where done leading the Council and as a result he hadn't gotten much sleep.
So he decided to sit down and take a break.
Aiya: Zzz~
In comparison Aiya was sleeping soundly on a chair.
Atsuo: ...
He stared worriedly at his wife and couldn't help but look back at a memory where Aiya and Kaneki had bonded.

Aiya: Hey Kaneki come here.
Young Kaneki: Hm? Do you need something Aiya-Mama?
Aiya: Here I want to use this on you.

Looking back at these sweet memories of Kaneki, Atsuo shed tears as he silently cried.

With that vow he stood back up and once again took lead of the Council.

It was only 5 in the morning and Natsuki had already woken up.

I still can't believe this is real... The reality of Kaneki no longer being with us was heavy.

Since I probably can't go back to sleep anymore, I carefully moved so I could get out of my futon.
Natsuki: Alright...
Once I had got out of my futon without disturbing anyone, I took a look around the room and peered into all of my friend's souls.
Natsuki: ...
I hone didn't know what to expect, of course their souls still have the same sad colors...
Natsuki: Sigh~
After I let out a heavy yet silent sigh, I decided to walk out of the shelter and go back to the river to try and relax.

Even though I came here to relax, I... I still can't relax.
Natsuki: Even after talking about Kaneki at the memorial service a hours ago, my heart still feels so heavy...
Chikao: Well you did have your heart broken after all.

While I was talking to myself, I heard Chi-chan's voice and when I turned around I saw Miku, Shino, Sachi and Yuuka with her.
Natsuki: Oh. Did I wake you guys up?
Sachi: Nah. We all woke up if I were to assume around 3 minutes ago.
Miku: Yeah and when we noticed you missing we figured you'd go here.
Natsuki: Ah I see. So? You guys want to join me or?
Shino & Yuuka: Sure we have nothing better to do anyways.
Sachi: Wow you two are in sync.
Now that we were all here, we sat down and did nothing but stared blankly at the river.
Natsuki: Say you guys... Since we have nothing better to do, why don't we tell stories we have of Kaneki?
All 5: What?
Sachi: Didn't we already do that hours ago?
Natsuki: I know but we mostly told stories we already know, and besides these three hadn't really told a story about Kaneki.
Shino Yuuka and Miku already knew this and felt a little guilty about it.
Miku: Yeah... You're right, we should do that as well.
Yuuka: Yeah our confession last night we made it about ourselves to be honest.
Shino: Oh crap now that I think about it... I guess that's one of the reasons some are mad at us now.
Sachi: No kidding.
Natsuki: We actually didn't think that through when supporting you three haha~
Chikao: Wow we're dumb including the adults.
Sachi: Haha~ We actually should've stopped you guys there.
Shino, Yuuka & Miku: Haha~
After saying a slight self-deprecating joke and all of us laughing at it, we began telling our stories.
Shino: Can I go first?
Natsuki: Knock yourself out.
Shino: Alright. This was around the time Kaneki and the four of us were still in elementary school together.

Unlike most times where the five of us would be together as a group, it was just me and Kaneki.
Young Kaneki: So~ What so you want to do Shiita-chan?
Young Shino: I don't know, we usually do things together.
Young Kaneki: Hmm~ I know! Why don't we go exploring?
Young Shino: Sounds fun!
Since we had nothing to do, Kaneki's suggestion for the two of us exploring the forest sounded fun.
So the two of us got out of the tree house and went exploring, and it was a very fun experience.
Young Kaneki & Shino: Woah~
We saw some wild animals in our exploration from deers to monkeys to even a bear.
In a safe distance of course.
But wondering around the forest got us into one big problem.
Young Shino: WE'RE LOOOOST!
After we had wondered through the forest for a few hours and the sun was setting, I had realized that we had gotten lost and I was obviously quite afraid.
Young Kaneki: Oh... I've never been to this part of the forest before.
What's worse Kaneki hadn't been into that part of the forest at the time so he was in unfamiliar territory and didn't know how we could get back home.
So you all could imagine how scared I was.
Young Shino: Sob~ We're lost! We're lost! We'll never return home! I'm scared I'm scared!
But compared to me Kaneki was a lot more calm.
Young Kaneki: It's alright Shiita-chan, breathe. We'll return home safely I promise.
Young Shino: Sniffle~ How? We don't know where to go...
Young Kaneki: Just trust me. Here let's hold hands so we won't get separated.
Young Shino: ... You promise you won't let go?
Young Kaneki: I promise.

Shino: So I held his hand the entire time until we returned home.
Miku: So that explains why you two went missing.
Sachi: Haha~ Your parents even thought you were kidnapped.
Yuuka: Wait I didn't hear anything about this.
Sachi: We kept it a secret from you.

Hehe~ What a good story and I feel a bit envious.
Natsuki: So how did it feel?
Shino: Well... I felt safe, Kaneki was so brave and calm despite the scary situation.
Chikao: Hehe~ I'm so jealous.
Shino: Well that's my story, what about you guys?
Sachi: Unlike your story mine isn't really that much exciting, but still a fun memory.
We listened carefully now that Sachi was about to tell her own story.

Similar to Shino's story this one is only about me and Kaneki.
And this story took place back at January a few months before I had to move.
It was still somewhat snowy and one of the rivers back in Shimotsuki was completely frozen solid.
I had brought Kaneki to go ice skating but...
Kaneki: Sasachi this is a horrible idea.
Kaneki did not like the idea at all.
Sachi: Why now? We both know how to ice skate so what's the problem?

Yuuka: Wait you actually brought him to skate with you in the frozen river? That's a horrible idea.
Sachi: Hehe~ Yeah I know.
Flashback*
Kaneki had said the same thing back then.
Kaneki: We don't know how thick the ice is, if we go into a spot where the ice is thin we're going completely under the ice.
He gave me a lecture about the dangers of ice skating in frozen rivers which had made me very bored.
Kaneki: Even though it doesn't look like it, the water is still moving underneath and if we fall in then getting out will be close to impossible.
Sachi: Boo~
Kaneki: Don't look so down Sachi, I'm only telling you this because I'm worried.
Sachi: I know...
Kaneki: If that's the case then why don't we just go to the mall? They have an ice skating rink there.
Sachi: There's too many people... Besides I wanted to be alone with you right now.

Sachi: I wanted it to be just the two of us ice skating, so I figured going to the river was a good idea.
Natsuki: Wow... You really were dumber back then.
Chikao: Haha~ Sachi you dummy.
Sachi: Hehe~

Obviously I was disappointed that Kaneki didn't want to skate with me, but he did notice it.
Kaneki: Well... If you want to skate with me that badly then I think I know a compromise.
Sachi: Eh? You do?
Kaneki: Yup.
Kaneki's compromise was completely unexpected.
Sachi: Kaneki we're in the middle of the road!
Instead of going to the ice rink, Kaneki had brought me to skate in the middle of the roads.
Kaneki: Relax Sachi, the roads are completely closed today due to the black ice that built up during the winter.
I didn't really know what Kaneki was talking about, all I know was that the roads were covered in transparent ice that was thick enough for us to skate around.
Kaneki: Hehe~ This is so much fun Sachi.
Sachi: Hehe~ Yeah.
With no other vehicles driving around, the two of us were completely safe.
Police: OI! YOU KIDS DON'T SKATE IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD!
Kaneki: Oh crap!
But apparently Kaneki didn't really think ahead so we had to run from the police.

After hearing such an absurd outcome, we all couldn't believe that Kaneki of all people got in trouble with the police and our mouths were left wide open.
Natsuki: Really??? And you two weren't caught?
Sachi: Yup! It wasn't easy, but it was so much fun. Honestly I can't believe Kaneki actually made a compromise that would actually get us in trouble.

Sachi's story was a bit unexpected and we all enjoyed it, I'm looking forward to more of their stories now.

Sachi: Sure.

This took place a few months after my parents were arrested and I started living on my own back in middle school.
Young Chikao: Sigh~ This is so boring.
Though I was finally free from my horrible parents, I had nothing else to do since I didn't really had anything in my apartment at the time.
What's more my "guardian" the Hero wasn't always present, so I wasn't able to go out on my own to get necessities except for food.

The "real" Hero always came to visit me during my lonely time and you guys already know who it was, Kaneki.

Even though he had more important matters he spared some of his time to look out for me.

Young Chikao: Nope. I also buy some bread and sandwiches with the money being sent to me every week.

Kaneki being the worrywart he is, not that I dislike it, was very concerned.

Yuuka: Well it really is an unbalanced diet, and you could get sick if you eat certain things over and over again.

So as you all could probably expect, Kaneki had to fix my diet.
Young Kaneki: Alright! Screw this!

He took out a notebook and began writing on it.
Young Kaneki: Since you're gonna become a beginner these recipes will help you.
Young Chikao: Recipes?
Young Kaneki: Yes. Once I'm done here we're going to go shopping for groceries.
Young Chikao: Eh?! What are you planning Kaneki?
Young Kaneki: I can't have you eating the same store bought food all the time, so I'll teach you how to cook. For today at least, I won't be present all the time so this cook book will help you, I'll also take this opportunity to show you around Shimotsuki so you'd know where to go.

Chikao: Kaneki was so worried for my well-being and even went as far to make his own cookbook for me.
Miku: Wow Onii-chan taught you how to cook too?
Chikao: Yup, although not as much as you Miku. But even so, it made me love him even more.

After we had went shopping for groceries, Kaneki had taught me how to cook and when we finished my first real meal was miso soup.
Young Kaneki: Go on, eat.
I still couldn't believe I was going to eat such a luxury, for someone like me to eat something like Miso was like a blessing and it was made with the help of the boy I love too.

Chikao: Taking a sip from that Miso soup was an unforgettable experience.
Chi-chan said this with a warm smile all over her face, and looking at her soul's colors I could feel that warmth too.
Chikao: So whenever I eat miso soup I'd always remember Kaneki.
Natsuki: Kyaa~ That was so touching!
Miku: Yeah, you must've loved Onii-chan even more from there huh?
Chikao: Yup! And it never changed at all.
Yuuka: Heh... I guess that's why you weren't put under the spell.
Yuuka said with a wry smile, which we all noticed.

Yuuka: Don't worry about me, I guess my love for Kaneki wasn't that strong huh?
It was easy to tell that she was feeling ashamed and hearing such a story and how much Chi-chan loved Kaneki, so much that the spell that affected Shino, Yuuka and didn't work.
Yuuka felt... A bit envious, but even so.
Shino: But the fact we really did love Kaneki never changed, after all we did broke free didn't we?
Shino was right that and Yuuka realized this immediately and made a small and sad yet happy smile.
Yuuka: Yeah... You're right. We really did. So... Do you guys mind?
Now that Yuuka called down, we're about to hear her story.
Yuuka: Alright. This story is about a relic expedition—
Sachi: It's just going to be about you and Kaneki right?
Yuuka: Hehe~ Obviously.

Ahem! Like I said this story is about a relic expedition, one that me and Kaneki did on our own around seven years ago
Young Yuuka: Hm~ So much data, yet I don't know who's relic to choose.
I was as usual looking through the Demon Knight data I had accessed to, through the books and internet.
But with so many options I just couldn't pick so easily.
Young Kaneki: Then why not Demon Knight Hiragi's relic?
That was when Kaneki appeared our of nowhere and startled me.
Young Yuuka: AHHHH!
Young Kaneki: Oh sorry Miyu-chan.
Young Kaneki: Kaneki?! You scared me! Don't just appear— since when were you here?
Young Kaneki: I came to visit, I figured you'd want to find relics again and I wanted to help.
Hearing him wanting to help me did always made me happy, so I obviously accepted his help.
Young Yuuka: Thanks. So? Who's relic did you pick?
I didn't heard him at first since he did startled me, but the name he spoke was one that was going to be one of our hardest research and expedition yet.

Yuuka: And compared to our search for the Crown of Urizen, this one was actually close to impossible.
Natsuki: Really? How hard was it?
Yuuka: No joke this one actually took us 3 months to actually find it.
All 5: 3 Months?!
Yuuka: Yup.

This relic is one you're all aware of, Kaneki had used it before. The Necro Guitar which belonged to Demon Knight Hiragi a.k.a Higanbana Tohru a.k.a Kaneki's Mom.
And what made this relic the most difficult to find?
Young Yuuka: Sigh~ This is bad Kaneki, there's not much data at all.
The lack of data, unlike almost all Demon Knights who hid hints of their relics whereabouts using books, Tohru-san didn't had any books written by her.
Young Kaneki: Hm... This is really a problem.
After three weeks of trying to find anything that could lead us to her relic, the both of us were at a loss.
Without any lead I was seriously considering giving up on it, until Kaneki had a realization.
Young Kaneki: Wait... What if we're looking at this at the wrong angle?
Young Yuuka: What do you mean?
Young Kaneki: Instead of looking for books, why don't we listen to her songs?
Iwas so surprised that I hadn't thought about it.

Yuuka: Let me ask you all this, what does the hints for the relics all have in common aside from them being hidden in books?
All 6: Uh...
Yuuka: Smirk! Heh! It's obvious, they were all hidden in stories.

Kaneki must've known about this, or he just did a gamble either way we stopped trying to find books and instead listened to her songs.
Whenever we had free time together, we'd listen to her songs but even then the lyrics weren't much help.
Until 3 weeks of listening I came up with an idea.
Young Yuuka: Why don't we put the songs into a spectrogram?
Young Kaneki: Heh? What's that?
Young Yuuka: Well it's basically the representation of spectrum of frequencies, or simply the image of a sound.
Young Kaneki: I do not understand, what do you mean image of sound?
Young Kaneki: Here I'll show you.
After I've shown Kaneki what a spectrogram was, he was very fascinated by it and he immediately got to work.
Young Kaneki: LET'S GET TO WORK!
Since we already had all of her songs, we've put each and every one of them into the spectrogram but even with all that we couldn't find anything.
Young Yuuka: Sigh~ Seriously? Still nothing? What else can we do?
Young Kaneki: I know! Let's play them in reverse.
Young Yuuka: Hm... Yeah that sounds good.
We tried again with Kaneki's suggestion, and it had worked.
Young Yuuka & Kaneki: Yay! It worked!
We were able to get the secret messages hidden inside the songs until we got our first hint.
Young Yuuka: Okay I was able to put the secret messages together.
Young Kaneki: "If you seek my power unite the powers of storm, ice and darkness and it will reveal itself to you" Wait... Is it saying—
Young Yuuka: It looks like we're going to use the Yurei staff, Shimo Absolute Zero Trident and the Shin blades.
Young Kaneki: Yeah. Luckily we've already got them.
Young Yuuka: There's a bit more.
Young Kaneki: Hmm? "Unite these three powers on top of Mount Fuji." ... Really? Why Mount Fuji?
Kaneki did looked worried, but he wasn't discouraged.
Young Kaneki: Well... It's doable, although we can't really go there on our own.
Young Yuuka: I'll ask my parents for us to go hiking there.
Young Kaneki: Heh sounds like a plan.
Young Yuuka: Hey Kaneki.
Young Kaneki: Yes?
Young Yuuka: Thank you for helping me as always.
Young Kaneki: Don't mention it, I'm always happy to help.

Yuuka: And after that, we had went hiking with my parents at Mount Fuji and was able to get the relic.
Natsuki: That was a good story Yuuka.
Yuuka: Same here, although it was hard it was very fun.
I really liked that story, although I feel like some things were missing.
Shino: Did you guys do anything else while researching?
Yuuka: Yup. We've also bonded quite a lot during our research, we even did our own karaoke party as well.
Sachi: Hehe~ sounds fun!
Natsuki: I wish I could tell you guys my own story with Kaneki, sadly though the only ones I have were our secret meetings.
Miku: Oh yeah. Ever since Sachi-Oneechan came and we started hanging out with Onii-chan again you two never had much time together alone.
Natsuki: Aside from when he slept in my house and our love talk.
It was a bit lonely not having a special memory with Kaneki that I could tell my friends, but it's fine.
Natsuki: What about you Miku? You haven't told your story yet.
Miku still has her own story to tell.
Miku: Eh? Is it okay?
Natsuki: Yeah I want o hear your own story with Kaneki.
Miku: Well... Okay.
How cute, I wonder what kind of story she'll tell?

Miku's Narration*
Let's see... Oh here's my story.
Young Miku: U-Um... Onii-chan...
It was after Mom and Dad had officially remarried to each other and the four of us had become family.
I was still a bit nervous around Onii-chan back then, so it was hard approach him.
Young Kaneki: Hmm? What is it Miku?
Young Miku: U-Um...
I wanted to play with him, but I'd get completely frozen before I could say anything.
However Onii-chan knew what I wanted.
Young Kaneki: Do you want to play?
Young Miku: Nod~
Young Kaneki: Okay let's play.
Flashback cut*
Miku: He'd always play with me and I really loved those times. Honestly sorry I can't really remember any more interesting stories.
Shino: That's fine Miku.
Natsuki: Mhmm! Any fun memory you have with Kaneki is good.
Miku: Yeah. I guess you're right... Actually.
Flashback*
Young Miku: Sob~ Onii~chan!!!
Back then I'd always get nightmares of my biological father, in these nightmares he'd yell at me blame me for everything. Especially the death of Hinata-Oniichan, my late brother.
And I'd always end up crying and calling for Onii-chan, I don't remember if I was calling for Hinata-Oniichan or Onii-chan though, maybe both?
Creak~
Young Kaneki: Miku? What's wrong?
And every time that happened, Onii-chan would come to my room to cheer me up.
Pat~ Pat~
Young Kaneki: There, there. It's alright, it's not your fault Miku.
He'd reassure me that it wasn't my fault and always told me that I was a good girl.
Young Kaneki: You're a good girl, Miku so cheer up. It wasn't your fault.

Natsuki's Narration*
Miku: Which is kind of ironic since he does blame himself for everything that bad had happened.
Chikao: Heh... Yeah you're right he must've hated himself that much.
Miku: Yeah... But yeah Onii-chan was very good towards me, spent most of my time with him and each and every one of them were always fun, and I was even able to meet all of you. And... That's it I guess.
Even though Miku's story wasn't as long as everyone else's stories, it was a good one in my opinion.
Natsuki: Fine with me. I'm feeling quite better to know more about Kaneki.
Because I was able to learn a bit more about Kaneki, and hearing stories about him felt good.
Yuuka: Yeah... Same here, hearing our stories about him was quite relaxing.
Sachi: ... Too bad we can't make new ones with him...
Although not all of us felt good, Sachi was sad that we couldn't make new memories with him.
Chikao: Yeah...
Same with Chi-chan she also felt sad with that undeniable truth.
But even so.
Natsuki: Then we'll have to protect his memory.
Shino: I agree.
Both Me and Shino knew that we can't let him be forgotten.
Sachi, Yuuka, Miku & Chikao: Natsuki? Shino/Shino-Oneechan?
Shino: He may be gone, but he won't be forgotten.
Natsuki: Yeah. As long we're alive, Kaneki's memory is as well and in that way he's still with us.
After hearing these stories of Kaneki, to me these are what remains of Kaneki, our memories of him.
And Shino must've realized that too.
Sachi: I don't quite understand what you two are getting at... But I'm definitely not going to forget Kaneki, ever.
Chikao: Same here.
Yuuka: Heh... Like hell I'd forget about my best friend.
Miku: Yeah!
Everyone had cheered up, including Sachi and Chi-chan.
Natsuki: Welp! We should probably go back to our shelter our parents and Kotori-san might get worried.
Shino: Yeah the sun is almost rising too.
We looked towards the rising sun as the new day approaches.
Yuuka: Haa~ Y'know this is quite relaxing.
Chikao: Yeah... I'm feeling kind of good for today.
Sachi: Same here.
After we've stared at the rising sun for a bit, we began to walk to our shelters.

However before we could start walking, we heard a very familiar roar from the distance.
All 6: It's that Kaiju?!
It was the Kaiju that appeared yesterday.
