Chapter 6 - Blue

Staring up at the ceiling, August lay flat on the floor spread-eagle with a bucket on his head and his dress practically ruined. "Today sucks supremely..." he whispers under his breath. With a mop on the floor next to him, it's no question what put him in this predicament. Trout asks, "Are you okay?" while reaching out her hand to help him up." August reaches for her hand and tries to pull her down but he isn't strong enough to even make her flinch. "I guess you're okay then." She pulls him off the floor and looks at him with disappointment in her glance. "Go to your room and get changed. You're filthy." Pike looks at her in disagreement saying, "I don't think Melody would be too fond of that idea. If he leaves now, who knows if he'll come back to--" Before he could finish his thought, the door is already open and August isn't in the room. "You're taking responsibility for this one!"

"I know already Pike. So be a dear and help me clean up this mess. Please?"

"No. You've barely done anything yet. I'm busy cooking you runt."

"Useless brother."

Pike throws a wooden spoon, hitting her in the head.

"Ow."

August walks down the hall leaving a trail of dirty water with each step he moves, he plants another one. Both of his fists clenched, he vows revenge in his heart thinking to himself, "This is all your fault, you demon in human skin." Opening the door, his unsettling anger is swept away like a leaf blown away by the wind. Pointy was sleeping in his messy bed without a care in the world. Drool dripping down her chin, fashioned in nothing but a white T-shirt and a pair of pleaded light blue shorts, she lay there on her back. She had messy long hair that, if straight, would reach far past her shoulders.

Confusion replaced his anger. August, unable to figure out how to respond to this situation in a correct or proper manner, he calls to her. "Pointy!" No response prompts August to shake her awake. The wind coming from the open window catches him off guard, making him shiver. "Damn, I wasn't ready for that." He leans over her to shut the window. The curtains stop swaying and relief starts to show on his face. "Of the maids here, this one's definitely the prettiest but she needs to get the hell out of my bed." He puts his hand on her shoulder and begins to shake her vigorously. "Wake up you scatter brain!" She finally opens her eyes.

Still under the impression that she's asleep, she grabs onto and hugs August, shoving his head into her lush pillows of plump. "You came to hug your big sister, didn't you August, but why are you wet?"

Flustered and angry, August yells, "What are you doing?! I'm not your damn brother! Hurry up and get the hell out of my bed, you dumbass!" He pushes her head into the bed trying to pry his own from her chest but he barely makes any leeway.

"Ow... Whoever said you can't feel pain in your dreams was a bumbling buffoon."

"Y-You're not asleep, so get off me already before I report you for sexual harassment!"

Finally able to grasp the situation, Pointy lets go of August. Her head glowing brighter than a ripe tomato, she scurries out of bed and turns to August apologizing, "I'm so sorry about that, young master! I have no excuse for sleeping in your bed. It was just so comfortable in this room, I let the atmosphere get to me."

"I didn't come here to hear you apologize. Move swiftly. We're going to the bath so be sure to bring a change of clothes."

"Of course, but stay still for a second." Reaching out her hand, she uses her handkerchief to pinch his nose. "Now blow." August follows her command getting rid of the excess blood in his nostrils. Pointy checks through the wardrobe against the wall collecting towels and clothes. "Would you like the blue one or another yellow dress?"

"So Mushy."

"What?"

"Blue! Stop asking questions! I've got things to take care of."

Leaving the room, August and Pointy make their way to the bath at the end of the hall.

On the floor, in front of Espresso's and Charmante's room, Melody and the other two sit playing the Campanella card game. "I only have enough time for a single game myself, so don't get mad at me when I beat you and leave." says Espresso cockily.

"I'm happy you're feeling confident again, Honey, but overestimating yourself isn't a very wise idea. You wouldn't want a repeat of our honeymoon, now would you?" taunts Charmante.

"What's that supposed to mean?"

"Don't fret, You might not last very long, but at least you'll look cute being stepped on again."

Melody cringed at the implication of her words saying, "You can't be serious. This is a card game. Whoop his sorry ass, don't go flirting with him."

"I'm sorry. When I get competitive, I tend to forget about my surroundings other than the person in front of me."

"Don't worry about it. It's not important." Starting the game, Espresso and Charmante both draw five cards from their respective decks.

"My name comes before yours in the alphabet so I've decided I get to go first."

"That's fine I guess."

Melody with the blankest expression, says, "That's not happening while I'm here. Just because she has you wrapped around her little finger doesn't mean you can give her a handicap. It's an insult to the game so straighten up your attitude and flip a damn coin."

The couple look at each other and start to smile able to tell the passion behind the mask. Charmante gets a coin out of her bag and returns ready to flip it. She calls out, "Heads or tails?" and Espresso gives his guess.

"Tails."

"I guess that leaves me with heads." She flips the coin launching it into the air. When it falls back down, it's caught and placed on the back of her palm. "You win. It's tails."

At the end of a rivetingly close match, Espresso secures his win with a decisive attack from his strongest card, 'Wizardess' Bottomless Cauldron.' Impressed by their match, Melody holds out her hand looking at the two of them as she tries to get them to slap her palm for a cheer.

"It was fun playing cards with you both, but I should really get back to work. One more thing, Ess. Congratulations on winning but I better not find you sneaking on my side of the bed tonight or else we're going to have a problem." warned Charmante.

They bid their farewells and Melody heads back toward the kitchen to check on August.
