Chapter 8 - Help (part two)

"I didn't know what these recurring sounds were and I didn't want to find out. Knowing that my little brother was safe wasn't enough for me. I still had another family member that I felt the need to protect from harm's way. It wasn't anything as noble as heroism. I guess I got caught up in the excitement of a risky situation.

"With one less person to worry about, my recklessness went up drastically as well. You might know this already, but I happen to have a bit of a super power. Well it's just the power of intuition to be clear, but I've never been wrong about something before so it feels inhuman. I don't need to understand what's happening most of the time, so I've been conditioned to believe it works by targeting decisions that lead to what I want in my unconscious mind and that's more dangerous than anything to me. I know I'm not always a good person and even if It'll make me happier to follow my gut feeling, I don't want to be the person I am now later. If I made a choice that inadvertently hurt one of my friends or family members... I don't want to make any regrets, so I made a rule for myself to strictly go against my body's reactions when I'm not by myself, but it's not as easy as it sounds with one exception. Anxiety and fear often get the better of me and depending on how intense I want something, the harder it is to go against it.

"If I had to pick my biggest weakness, it'd be my own emotions that often I don't even understand or how unbearable the anxiety this power gives is for me. Luckily, this was one of those moments that could be considered the exception. I embraced my recklessness and followed my instinct then because August was that exception for me. It was clear to me from the deepest depths of my soul that I wasn't able to have a negative thought regarding his well being, but as to why? That wasn't something I could figure out. I didn't know where to look for that information either.

"Making my way through the aisles, I decided not to call out for August or the tall masculine figure. I continued at a slow pace walking through the shadows not making a sound. Eventually, I wandered my way directly in front of my prize. August sat there on the floor with his arms wrapped around his knees and his butt touching the cold floor. His head seemed to be facing downward, hiding his face.

Unsure if he had noticed my presence I whispered, 'Hey, August. Are you doing alright?' He didn't answer, but that didn't stop me from getting closer and picking him up to carry him on my back. I briefly thanked my outstanding memory and started to walk my way toward the exit. I wasn't all that strong back then so I'll admit carrying him the whole way was a little tough so I couldn't exactly run. Before I noticed, he was wobbling so much so that, he ended up waking up holding on to my shoulders. His face still pressed against my back, I could only assume he was still trying figure out who I was from the position he was in. 'Are you awake yet?' I whispered to him again and he started to tug on my hair like I was some sort of horse and my hair strands were the rope needed to steer me.

"Looking up at him, I ask, 'Could you please let go of my hair? Its difficult to keep steady when you're tugging on it like that!' The moment he hops down, I turn around to face him and prompt him to hold my hand for the remainder of the way, but I'm unable to convince him. I reach my hand out and his rebellious spirit pokes out its head. He takes a step back and bumps into something large.

"Him bumping into something didn't make much sense considering I just walked down the same path and there was nothing there so I quickly stepped forward and grabbed onto his hand and tried to pull him toward me. August wouldn't budge and the reason as to why, was the large figure that I suspect had been chasing him around before. Frightened by the hands that suddenly appeared on his shoulders, August wet his pants looking at me in desperation. Our uninvited guest loses his composure looking a bit shooken. His grip loosens as he starts mumbling to himself, 'She's going to kill me.' Taking the opportunity, I pull August out of there and make a rush for the door. Jumping over the piles of books Pointy knocked over earlier, we made it roughly a few feet from the exit.

"Wait!" The man came out, but we weren't stopping. Unwilling to step in the puddle left behind, the man jumps over it and lands ends tripping over the books on the floor securing our escape. A familiar 'thud' could be heard behind us but there was no need to look in order to check what it was. We made our way through the door and back into the light we oh so missed.

"A few tears were on August's face, but a now and awake Pointy takes him to the bath with her. Madin and Charmante are there by the door. Madin hugs me and tells me what happened with the librarian. Apparently she ran out of breath while she was running after Pointy and was lying down in her room to rest. I asked Charmante what she was doing there and she pinched my ear. It turns out she sent Espresso in there to go get us and she was the one who put Pointy on the floor earlier as well. She explained, 'Without me realizing, Pointy snuck her way into my bed which startled me at first but, she looked so cute I just left her alone. When I left my room, I met up with my husband and he told me what Ms. Wrench told him. Angry, I went back to my room, and carried that little monster back here and put her in the library. I was a little confused as to why the lights were off though.'

'Why in the library?'

'Where else would you guys have been? Pointy doesn't cause trouble without the rest of you I'll have you know. You all run around in packs anyways, it isn't hard to find a ton of kids who always stick together... Well Pointy not included because she just goes and sleeps wherever she so pleases. I ran into Espresso again and he asked me where you guys were so I told him to check the library.' I just came back here because Madin started mumbling about a monster in there so I've been back and forth.

'So Espresso was the one chasing us around in the dark? We could've gotten badly injured, you know? I even hurt my arms protecting Madin from a fall that could've cracked his skull. August even wet himself.'

'He did what?! Espresso was chasing you all in the dark, you say? I'll make sure he gets what's coming to him. Don't worry.' Madin, nervous, grabs onto my dress and nods his head. Opening the door and flipping on the light switch, Charmante storms in there clenching her fists ready to beat Espresso to a bloody pulp."
