Chapter 5 - CHAPTER FIVE

THE BALANCE OF POWER

The silence lingered longer than anyone dared to endure. The king's gaze remained fixed on the weapons, though his thoughts had already moved beyond them.Evidence could be forged. Loyalty could be swayed but Power had to be managed."General," he said at last. Her Highness stepped forward.

"You have admitted that these weapons originated from your command," he continued. "You have also claimed they were taken or misused without your knowledge."

"Yes, Your Majesty."Her voice was steady.

The king nodded slightly, as though acknowledging a piece on a board being placed exactly where he expected it.

"Then the matter before this court is not merely one of guilt," he said, his voice carrying across the chamber, "but your inability to control those under your command."A faint stir passed through the nobles. The Third Prince frowned.Yuma Nzaki watched closely.

"If a commander cannot account for the actions carried out under her authority," the king continued, "then that authority must be reconsidered."The words settled heavily. The general did not react.Which drew more attention alone drew than any protest could have. The king rose."I will not pass final judgment on this matter today," he declared. "The truth behind these events remains incomplete."

"But I will act so that order is preserved while that truth is uncovered."Now the court leaned in.The king's eyes moved briefly toward Yuma Nzaki then toward the ranks of the military officers present."From this moment," he said, "her highness is relieved of her command as General."A sharp intake of breath echoed across the hall.Even the judge lifted his head in shock. The soldiers at the back stiffened, but none dared move.

"She will retain her title," he continued, "but her duties shall be reassigned.""She will serve henceforth as an Inspector of the Crown tasked with investigating the misuse of royal arms and the events surrounding this massacre."A murmur spread from confusion and disbelief. This was no simple demotion. It was a repositioning.

The king's gaze met hers."You claim these acts were carried out beyond your will," he said. "Then you will uncover who truly commands in the shadows."Her Highness bowed her head, just slightly."As you command, Your Majesty. But something in her eyes sharpened. The king turned."There remains the matter of leadership within the military."

"A command cannot stand vacant," he said. "Nor can it remain under uncertainty."Yuma Nzaki's posture straightened a little ,but The king noticed."Therefore," he continued, "a new General shall be appointed."The court held its breath."Step forward."From among the assembled officers, a young man emerged. His armor was polished, his bearing disciplined but his face, though composed, lacked the weight of experience carried by the one he replaced.

He knelt."State your name," the king commanded."Renshi Nzaki, Your Majesty."The name moved through the court like a whisper carried by wind. The Minister's son Yuma Nzaki lowered his gaze respectfully, though the faintest trace of satisfaction flickered across his features. The Third Prince's eyes narrowed.

The king studied the young man."You have served in the ranks of the military," he said. "You understand its structure. Its discipline.""Yes, Your Majesty.""And now," the king said, his voice steady, "you will understand its burden.""You are hereby appointed General of the Royal Forces."

The declaration struck like a bell.

Renshi bowed deeply. "I am honored, Your Majesty. I will not fail you."The king said nothing to that.

Instead, he turned his gaze once more to the former General newly appointed Inspector."One will command the army," the king said quietly, "and the other… will uncover the truth behind it.""Court is adjourned," the king declared. The sound of his departure echoed through the chamber but the tension he left behind did not fade.Because now, the battle was no longer hidden. It had simply changed form.
