The building was dark and cold. Kai walked slowly down the long hallway. His memory gloves glowed softly in the darkness. They helped him see where to go.
At the end of the hall, he found a room with an open door. Inside, someone sat in a chair. The person wore all black clothes and a hood that covered their face.
"You came," the person said. Their voice was strange. It sounded like many voices talking at once.
Kai stepped into the room. "You stole the memory. Why?"
The person stood up. "I did not steal it. I saved it." They moved their hand, and the stolen memory appeared floating in the air. It glowed with golden light.
"Saved it from what?" Kai asked. He was ready to use his powers if needed.
"From them," the person said. "The Memory Erasers. They want to delete all old memories. They want people to forget the truth about the old world."
Kai felt confused. "Memory Erasers? I never heard of them."
The hooded person laughed sadly. "Of course not. They erased that knowledge from most people's minds. But some of us remember. We fight to save the important memories."
They held out the glowing memory. "This memory contains something very important. It shows what really happened 300 years ago. The great war that almost destroyed everything."
Kai took a step closer. "Why should I believe you?"
"Because," the person said, lowering their hood. Kai gasped. The person looked exactly like him, but older. "Because I am you, from another timeline. And if we don't stop the Memory Erasers, all realities will end."
The room began to shake. "They found us," the older Kai said. "Take this memory and run. Learn the truth. Save us all."
He threw the golden memory to young Kai, who caught it with his gloves.
