Diana looked out the window nervously she knew that it was already too late to escape. She would never get past them without being seen.
The question was what they wanted. She had followed their orders, and that is why they had let her live, and why they had killed June. Because she was not going to blindly follow their orders, and she was not willing to keep quiet about what they were doing.
Diana thought that maybe she could slip out of the back but then realized that if she just opened the door things would be better than if she tried to run. Because when they would catch her, they will kill her as they did her sister.
In her heart, she wanted to run just to not have to deal with them. She knew that was not a choice that she had so she just opened the door. She was not worried about greeting them with a smile knowing the loss of her husband would be enough to make them not ask too much of her.
As soon as the door started opening, they pushed their way in. The leader of the group asked, "Why did you keep us waiting?" As he shook his head at her.
Diana knew that Sam was dead (which was probably due to something that they had him working on) and they had no reason to keep her there or alive. She had just lost him, and she was now letting it all show. It was not like she could hide her sadness anyway, but she held back all the anger she was feeling.
Diana asked through tears, "What do you want?"
The leader said, "We are here to collect the rest of the research that Sam was doing."
Diana said, "You know that he didn't work on anything here, I would not allow it.
The Leader just let out a laugh and said, "Silly woman. You didn't have any control of anything here. You got to do the things that we let you do, and that is all."
He nodded to the others and said, "You know what to do and you know what we are looking for."
Two of the men in dark suits split off and headed into the den, two more of them split off and headed to the basement, and the last two went into the garage. The leader kept Diana in the Livingroom and said, "Don't worry, we will leave as soon as we get the things that we need."
Diana heard all kinds of rustling as she could tell that they were tearing things apart looking for what they were after. They were not being gentle at all. She knew that she was going to have to clean up everything once they were gone. It even sounded like they were breaking things, either intentionally, or accidentally, but the way it sounded it was on purpose.
Diana wanted to go and yell at them, she didn't care if they took what they were after, but there were a lot of things that held sentimental value to her and to Sam, things that could never be replaced. As the sounds continued, she just wished that they would hurry up and get done and leave.
It was not long till the men started bringing up boxes of stuff in fact Diana was surprised that there was anything there let alone all the boxes of stuff. She normally didn't spend a lot of time in the den or the basement, but she was in the garage every day and never really noticed anything. It was not like she would go through everything in the garage looking for anything but it was always spick and span looking with no signs of ever being used for anything. Unless the stuff was coming out of his car. The one that she never even drove. Box after box was taken out of the house and loaded into their vans.
Diana saw that they had been prepared to take away a lot of stuff but at least she could tell that it was mostly papers. She had asked Sam a few times what exactly he was doing for work and most of the time he would either blow her off or quickly change the subject. But once she pressed the subject and he finally told her that is what wound up getting June killed and he was not going to make the same mistake with her. She had tried to get him to leave and do something else, but it was always that there was no way the company would ever let him go he knew too much. Diana knew that it was bad when he had pleaded with her to come with him because his life and the life of Tina were on the line.
As Diana sat there listening to things being destroyed, she found herself regretting the decisions that she had made coming here. She wanted a family with him a child of her own she had such a hard time with Tina not being hers and she could never get over the fact that they had to just keep lying to her.
Diana flinched a little with every small crash that she heard coming from the other rooms and the leader saw her and said, "Don't worry it's not that bad, and as long as they are thorough then there will be no need of us returning. As long as you keep your mouth shut and never tell anyone anything. You and the brat can live here in peace forever."
Diana had never realized that she was going to be tied to Tina for the rest of her life. It was hard enough living with her when she was a child, but now it was going to be impossible. At least she was spending most of her time away with her friends. She just hoped that the company never found out that they told her anything.
The color drained out of Diana's face as she realized that Tina knew too much now and if she said anything they would kill her too. The Leader looked and saw the change in her and asked, "Are you okay?"
Diana said, "Yes. It's just all been a lot to deal with."
The Leader nodded but kept a closer eye on her knowing that she had to be hiding something from him now. As he watched her, he saw that she was looking sickly, or it was looking like she was going to faint. He didn't want that to happen, so he said, "Why don't we move to the kitchen for some tea." He was hoping that some tea and cakes would help settle her stomach.
Reluctantly Diana showed him to the kitchen and started the water for the tea. She was not in the mood for tea or for the fact of the matter, not wanting to serve him any either but anything to hurry this along and get them out of here was worth doing.
After they had taken out about the twentieth box Diana started wondering just what they all were taking. She wanted to just see what it was but knew that if she tried that it would be the end of her, so she just sat there sipping her tea.
The Leader could tell that she didn't want them there, and she was doing her best to just get through this as smoothly as she could. He didn't want to be here anymore than she did, but they needed all the research that was already completed. If they were not going to be set back 10 years. He never understood why these eggheads liked to take all this crap home and work on it instead of just keeping it in the office.
Suddenly one of the men came up to the leader and whispered in his ear. Diana watched as his face changed in hardness before his expression was almost apologetic but now it was stern and hard. The Leader said, "Well I have been informed that one of the cars is missing."
Diana looked at him surprised; she had no idea that any of them were not there she had not gone out of the house since she had returned from the hospital. Diana asked, "What car is missing."
The Leader turned to the flunky and nodded meaning he just needed to make his report out loud. The guy stepped forward and in a very formal manner said, "The Jaguar is the car that is missing."
Diana looked even more puzzled and said, "That's Tina's car. Sam got it for her, but it should be her she hardly ever even takes it out of the garage she is scared to drive the thing."
Diana thought she didn't see her boyfriend's car here she knew that once in a while she would let him drive her around in it but that was rare.
Diana said, "That is the girl's car she probably has at one of her friends."
In a stern tone, the Leader asked, "What friends?"
This took Diana by surprise, and she stumbled over her tongue. She looked up at him terrified and said, "I... I... I... really don't know that many I know that she has a boyfriend I think his name is Ken but I'm unsure what his last name is. Cindy Young is one who might know where she is at. The girl next door is one but she would ride with her if she was going to the same place as her but she might know where she is."
The leader looked at her and thought what a wonderful mother she must have been to only know the first name of the guy that her daughter is seeing and could only give them one name of a girl that she is friends with.
The rest of the men with boxes in their hands approached and reported that there was no sign of the device.
"What device?" Slipped out of Diana's mouth before she could stop herself from saying anything.
The Leader gave her a cold look and that just made her clamp her mouth tightly shut.
The Leader gave her a death look and said, "Get over there and find out where she is. I don't care what you have to do to find out. After all your life depends on her being here with you."
Diana took a hard swallow she knew that he meant it just the way that he said it and she needed Tina back home and would have to do whatever it would take to get her home fast.
Diana said, "I'll be right back."
The Leader called to two of his men and said, "You two go with her and make sure she doesn't get lost or forget anything but stay out of her way and make sure she gets to where she is going."
The two snapped to attention and stood at her side. They were not dressed like the military but by the way that they acted they were in some kind of service.
Diana said, "I need a minute to fix my face and slip into something different I can't be seen going out of the house like this my husband just died."
The Leader said, "You heard her give her some room, but keep close."
They all knew what that meant, and they followed her not letting her be completely out of sight even when going into the bathroom or changing her clothes they stood with their backs to the door, but she was not allowed to shut the door and they were listening to her every move.
It was not like she wanted to dress in front of these guys, but she knew that if she tried to force the door closed that they would just break it down. She stepped into her closet and put on the outfit that she was planning to be seen in and then checked her makeup and left her room with a disgusted look on her face when she even looked at the guys.
Diana walked over to the neighbor's house and luckily it what the girl that opened the door. She looked at Diana strangely since she was walking with two really big guys following her that just didn't look like they belonged in suits.
With her eyes wide she asked, "How are Sam and Tina I heard that Ken was killed in the accident."
With tear-filled eyes, Diana said, "Sam didn't make it. I am actually looking for Tina have you happened to see her around?"
Becky said, " I don't know I have been trying to call her all morning to try and see if she was alright. I thought that she was just staying in bed with her missing graduation and everything I figured that she wouldn't even be getting out of bed for a while."
Diana said, "She took her car I was hoping that you might know where she would go. I don't think that she should be alone with everything going on. You know."
Becky nodded her head in complete agreement but that was the first time that she had ever seen her act motherly toward Tina. Becky said, "Hold on a minute all call a few of her friends and see if she is with any of them or if they have seen her."
The first one she called was Cindy and she told her how she had gotten a goodbye letter in her email. Becky clicked open her Email and there it was the same thing as her saying goodbye.
Becky showed the letter to Diana and as she read it, she passed out and started to fall but the guys caught her before she hit the ground.
