Chapter 80 - Zone Resonance and Metahumans (1)

School of Metahumans

'The number of students that left the academy was lesser than I expected,' I thought to myself.

In the original story, after the elimination exams, atleast eight percent of the students had already left Paragon, willingly or due to critical injuries. Two to three per cent had already perished in the hands of each other because of the demons. This had made all of them distant from one another... However, due to my influence in the story, no one ended up dead with minimal casualties on the side of aura users and hunters. This changed their mindset on the academy and most of the ones who were supposed to leave stayed in the academy.

"Pay attention to this part; this chapter will carry fifty per cent of your first term exams," a voice resounded through the entire room, alerting all the students present inside it.

"More like seventy per cent..." I murmured.

Today's first class was taken by Dr. Ian, a frail young man, who looked like he was in his thirties, with curly black hair, brown eyes and fair skin. He was our physics teacher for this year. He was meta who could control sound, frequencies, and vibrations and resonate with any object that could create a different level of sound to strengthen his ability.

I hate him so much... Ever since I entered the academy Ian has been eyeing me to make me his top student. Since my father was under his guidance, he expected me to follow in his footsteps.

That guy even contacted my uncle to ask for his permission, and although my uncle refused unhesitatingly, he has never stopped trying to scout me.

"What is wrong with you becoming his top student anyway?" Ryuk asked.

'If you were on Earth... My original Earth. You would experience it beforehand... Top students are like slaves of the teachers,' I explained. 'I don't have any wish to become a teacher's pet. However, he is a persistent guy, he won't give up on me easily. I need to shift his attention to someone else somehow...'

"Well his subject is interesting nonetheless," Ryuk said, which I agreed to.

"As you all know, the multiverse is an infinitely expanding space that contains a vast number of universes with different frequencies. Each world, galaxy and universe has their unique frequency," Ian explained. "However, sometimes when new planets are formed, there is a chance that there will be a planet that shares the same frequency with an old planet. This event is called Zone Resonance, when this happens, the zones of two planets will collide with each other unless one is destroyed by the other."

"Sir, wouldn't that mean we need to kill every life form on the planets as well?" a student asked innocently.

"Yes, we do; it's them or us. We have no other option," Ian replied. "I know that you might think lowly of our actions, but in the end, you will follow us anyway. After all, we are humans in the end... Survival is our main instinct."

The kid who raised the question quieted down immediately after listening to Ian. While he might have been harsh with his words, he made the kid understand the rules of this multiverse without any lies.

"On that note, there will be a substitute teacher for Holborn's class, don't be disrespectful to her just because she is a substitute. I heard that she is quite hot-tempered; if you try to speak up, then you might end up in the infirmary," Ian warned us.

'A hot-tempered substitute? I never added someone like that to the story,' I thought. 'Holborn and Doctor... I need to figure out what they are trying to do to this timeline.'

"Now then as I was explaining... There are many types of Zone Resonances, including single resonance, repetitive resonance and dormant resonance," Ian began his lecture once again. "A single resonance occurs once only and is also known as an accidental resonance, this time of resonance is small and doesn't create any problems. A single resonance doesn't make the zones of two planets collapse, it only creates a silhouette for one day or less before disappearing completely.

A repetitive resonance, on the other hand, is different from a single resonance; it occurs without any warning and causes havoc until one of the planets is destroyed or the resonance is complete. This type of resonance creates opportunities for us to grow stronger and allows us to obtain numerous resources.

Last but not least, dormant resonance or... The full resonance. A dormant resonance comes with a warning and has a very cool down. A dormant resonance collapses two planets from the get-go, destroying both planets in the process. A dormant resonance is said to have already occurred once in the past but that is something you will learn from Malcolm, so I won't discuss that matter here."

"All right, if anyone has any questions ask me in the next class because class is over for now," said Ian. 'If only that Holborn bastard didn't run off to God knows where I would have been able to continue the class for longer... Now I need to search for him again, what a bother...'

Since the class was over, I had more time to think about Doctor's identity and motive but... Looking at John sitting with Samuel was saddening. However, I had to endure this for now... I planned to use them from the start, why am I worried about tools?

'Keep your head straight, Savitar; John was nothing but a tool, an expendable tool. You used him knowing well enough that he didn't mean anything to you...' I told myself, knowing that I was lying to myself. I couldn't help it, that's the only way to suppress these emotions.

"Ray? You there? Hello?" Sylvia asked, waving a hand in front of my face.

"Huh? What happened?" I asked in shock.

"You have been daydreaming since the class began, Are you sure you don't want to do something about 'him'?" Sylvia asked. "I don't mind that you lied to me yesterday, but don't lie to yourself; the only one that's getting hurt in this ordeal is you."

"I-... It's alright, I can endure this much," I smiled. 'For now, I need a plan to deal with Doctor.'
