Chapter 51 - A common enemy

The first day at Paragon was unlike the other academies. It was a free day for the students to let them relax or get to know eachother as well as letting them get prepared for the hellish training that's about to start for them.

Each of the dorm rooms were big enough to accommodate two students only, they had two beds on each sides of the room with a table and a chair in the middle and a bathroom at the left side of the room. They also had two windows on top of the beds and a small old fashioned lamp on the table to make the room look good.

Tom had gone out to search where Samuel's dorm room was at, while I could tell him about it, I decided not to. By doing so I could get some free time to figure out the Timey Wimey Gadget... I don't feel comfortable saying that to someone else. It sounds a bit too childish, maybe I will rename it later.

"This is weird... I haven't read about any technology like this invented in this century. It's as if this thing wasn't the creation of humans in the first place..." I mumbled while messing around with the pen like object.

"Well duh, it happens to be created by a super genius that happens to be your future self. How can you call such a thing normal?" Ryuk asked.

"No it's... It's different... This whole thing is like a new element to scientists like it is to me. I can't understand anything... It seems so foreign... I don't even know how it processes yet I somehow know how to make it work... Am I going crazy?" I asked.

"I think you should get some rest, and calm down a bit. You are trying to overcomplicate it once again. Try to think in a simple way, maybe you will figure it out." Ryuk said.

In this case Ryuk was wrong, the Timey Wimey Gadget was really made with a foreign technology that is unknown to me but the question is... For how long?

I did figure out all the mechanism inside the gadget in about two to three minutes in Flashtime, making a phew adjustments to it's mechanism and colour to make it look different from Holborn's gadget. However, I ended up burning the wooden table in the process. I tried to stop it but the heat was too strong because I accidentally turned up the temperature...

Well if you don't fail in life then know that you will learn nothing from it. The ones who always fail are failures but those who learn their mistakes from it are the successful ones.

As I was about to pack up, Tom suddenly appeared behind me out of nowhere. How does he do that? I really want to learn how he does that. I didn't even hear the door open.

"You wanna hear the good news or bad news first?" Tom asked.

"What's the good news?" I asked.

"I found out that dear Sam is roomies with someone we know," Tom smiled nervously.

"It's John?" Tom went silent but I could feel that I was right. "Oh shit..."

"Son of a bitch... Should have changed his keys first," Tom looked down in disappointment. "By the way, what were you mumbling about? I just walked in and saw that you were working on that pen like object."

"Oh this? Ahem-ahem behold my new invention the Timey Wimey Gadget!" I said proudly.

"That sounds a bit childish, maybe you should rethink the name a bit," Tom said.

He was always a straightforward guy, don't know what I expected him to say back then.

"Anyways enough about that, did you see the teachers and the other students?" I asked.

"I have yet to see the teachers but the students on the other hand are arguing quite a bit too much. I expected as much but can't say the same for the Headmasters. What did they think would happen if we allied together? I mean I get that the Armageddon isn't something we could take on by ourselves but the way the Alliance is being formed is very bad. The new students are forming groups to bully the hunters. How did my father even agree to such a ridiculous alliance?!" Tom shouted at himself. "Nothing makes sense to me, I mean the Magic Tower and the Silverheart family is also working together and although they are arguing with each other it's not the same as metahumans and hunters. Those guys are trying to kill each other..."

"Have you read the history books? When the metahumans appeared in this planet for the first time, all the people in this world called them freaks of nature, tried to cage them, experiment on them or even kill them to research on their organs but as time went on, people noticed that normal humans can also give birth to metahumans and metahumans can also give birth to normal humans. They started to have doubt in their hearts, they tried to revolt and make rights for metas and in return some of them helped them out, whereas the others who were experimented on tried to kill them. That was the start of a new era, an era ruled by metahumans, after that sorcerers showed up with their powers that were passed down though lineages. Then magicians, aura users aliens, summoners and lastly hunters..." I explained. "In truth there was never any harmony between the five forces before the appearance of the hunters and now after the news of the Armageddon, they teamed up with some they fought for years... Crazy right?"

I walked up from the chair and stood before Tom raising my right arm and pointing upwards with my index finger. "All it takes... is one common enemy."
