-Blake West:
I stood there, still watching Zade long after Elena left the room and the door clicked shut behind her. He didn't say anything at first. He just kept staring at me, his expression unreadable—until, all of a sudden, his entire face lit up.
He grinned.
And not just any grin. It was the kind of grin he used to have when we were kids, back when he thought life was a game and he could win at anything. Wide. Bright. Almost boyish.
Without warning, he stepped toward me, grabbing both my shoulders like it was the most natural thing in the world.
"I'll find it for you," he said, his voice so full of determination it actually startled me. His brown eyes were locked onto mine, and I could feel the sincerity rolling off him like heat. "Your pin. I promise, Blake. I'll get it back to you."
I blinked, completely caught off guard by the sudden burst of energy. He looked like someone had just handed him a treasure map and told him he was destined to find the prize.
