Chapter 21 - What the hell is that

Josh continues poking at me for "fixing my dads cat" the rest of homeroom. As our homeroom teacher hands me a test.

"This is your English test you missed last week get here on time tomorrow and finish it." I nod taking the test working on it for the rest of the class period.

'You're stupid.' The god says in my ear.

'Sounds good.' I think when the bell rings. Hannah walks up to me.

"Seriously? You left me alone in there." She says slapping my arm.

"I didn't mean to." I say.

"Doesn't matter, you still did."

"I'm sorry ok." I say checking my phone.

"Ugh fine I guess I accept your apology." Hanna says waving as I walk into class.

"Uh yeah ok." I answer staring at my phone.

'We need you bro.' Tyler texted me.

'What why? What's going on?' I respond walking out of the class room.

'I found something you have to see it's better I don't tell you what it is over text.'

'Alright I'll be there soon where are you?'

'The park near that weird looking telescope.'

'Got it heading over there now.' I say putting my phone in my pocket sprinting to the park.

'What the hell does he mean he can't tell me over text, is it that bad?' I think to myself.

'Ruby just got here and so did that other kid.' Tyler texts me.

'It's that bad?' I ask.

'Yes.'

'Shit, alright I'll be there in like two minutes top.' I reply running into the park entrance taking a shortcut through the little wooded area.

"Ew ew ew ew ew ew." I hear Ruby saying as I rush through some bushes.

"Hey what's going on?" Tyler looks at me hearing me run through the bushes before moving to the side revealing a body.

"Holy shit." I say looking at an unidentifiable body. It's a bloody pulpy mess slumped against a rock.

'That was Marco.' My god says taking the physical form. "Marco's god said that he fought a scout alone it clearly didn't work out to well."

"Damn." Tom says inspecting the body. "Poor guy got mauled." He said.

I look over as Rose seeing her bending over a bush throwing up.

"She's not taking it well." I say to Tyler.

"Yeah." He says. "I knew they were strong I didn't think they were brutal though. Can you resurrect him?"

"No it's not giving me the option to."

"Probably for the best anyways." Tyler says.

"Yeah, how is his family gonna find out?"

"I'm not sure gonna have to make up some bs." Tyler says rubbing his forehead.

"Damn."

"This just shows you how dangerous these things can be." My god says holding his hand out Marcos body starts turning golden before disappearing into tiny golden shards. "No one can see this." He says. I look at the shards liquefy getting soaked into the ground leaving nothing behind but a little dent in the ground. "That's the closest to burial he can get."

"Damn monsters." Tyler says.

"I'm finding it." Tom says.

"Finding what?" I ask.

"The scout that killed him."

"That body looked hours old there's no way he's around here."

"I have a special ability, I can track those things and I have a hit." Tom says.

{New quest}

[Follow Tom and kill the scout]

[If you decline you will be sent back to school]

I nod my head lightly 'Rewards' I think to myself.

{Reward: 10,000 XP}

{50 RP}

{1,000,000 gold}

{S-rank item or S-rank skill}

I cough while choking seeing the rewards. 'S-RANK ITEM?!' I think to myself. 'My sword is a D-rank and it's decent imagine, an S-rank!'

"You good?" Tyler asks.

"Yeah I'm fine." I say catching my breath. 'I wonder if they also got the quest.' "I'm going with you." I say to Tom.

"Okay." He says shrugging his shoulders.

{New message}

'I like the sound of bonus points.' I think to myself opening the shop.

{Gold: 23,058}

'S-rank dagger.'

[Filter shop to only be S-rank weapons?]

'Yes.' The shop tab closes then reopens revealing a screen with a purple background displaying rows of beautifully crafted daggers.

'7 MILLION COINS?!' I think to myself.

{Armor annihilator: Ignores all armor traits dealing extra damage to armor types.}

'That would be useful to bad I'm poor.' I settle for a C-rank version of the dagger

{Steel dagger: Reduces armor effect by 45% deals 25% more damage to armor types}

"Let's go." Tom says running. I follow him running through bushes and in-between alleyways.

"There's a level 3 spreader nearby." Tom says pointing the the direction of the spreader. I nod sending out one of my spreaders to deal with it a few minutes later the XP board pops up.

'I hope this works. Follow my scent with the spreader.' I think to myself hoping it'll bring it to me so I can resurrect it. We keep running finally making it to a wooded area.

"Ok bad news." Tom says looking around. "The trail is a bit hazy I can't sense it that well."

"What do you mean? How can you even track it?" I ask confused.

"I'm an assassin. I specialize in tracking and stealth." He says. "This trail is the strongest." He says walking into the bushes.

"I didn't see assassin." I say thinking back to the choice board for jobs.

"And I didn't see necromancer. He says. "I think it's personalized they give you other options but almost knows what you're going to choose." He says suddenly dropping down to his knee. "Get down!" He whispers. I fall to my knee peering through the bushes.

"I don't see anything." I whisper looking hard.

"Right there." Tom says pushing the bushes down a little.

"What the hell is that thing."
