Chapter 3 - THE DOCTOR

The traumatic events kept replaying in my mind when I saw my Mom standing beside me, a bright smile on her lips. My lips instantly curved into a similar smile while tears rolled down my cheeks. I immediately sat up and extended my hand to touch my Mom.

My hand passed through her as if it was her hologram. I tried touching her again but to no avail. Then I saw her slowly moving away from and disappearing into a white light.

I shouted my lungs out, but Mom didn't come back and vanished into the void. I jolted awake. A few seconds after catching my breath, I looked at my surroundings. I was on top of a small bed and a narrow pipe filled with blood ran all the way up from my arm to the blood pouch hanging on a metal stand.

"I am in a hospital", I said to myself in a whisper. And soon enough all the memories of my Mom being in the emergency ward, my Dad sobbing, and my Mom's photo in the funeral hall came rushing back in my mind all at once.

I started panicking. My breathing became laboured. I could hardly even speak. In my mind I said, 'I have to get out of here', and gathered enough strength to scream at the top of my voice, "Someone help!"

The nurse practically ran over to me as soon as she saw my panic-stricken pale face. She held on to my arm and rubbed my back, trying to calm me down. But the horror was slowly taking over me.

The nurse screamed, "Doctor Parker! Doctor Parker!"

I looked up at the door. Terrified, I urged the nurse, "Don't call the doctor. I want to go home. Please!" I lowered my eyelids not wanting to face my oncoming fear.

There were footsteps in the corridor quickly approaching. Closing in the distance between the door and my bed, a voice said, "Are you okay Jane?" His voice was deep and comforting, just like the person I had a crush on since I was in the fourth grade - the person who disappeared from my life when I was in the seventh grade. My saviour whom I never met with again after he passed high school and went overseas for his studies.

I instantly perked up my face at the familiarity and was surprised and dumbfounded as my eyes fell on the known handsome features and the hazel eyes exuding a warmth I've never felt in the past few years since he left.
