Chapter 23 - UA Entrance Exam

A loud siren rang through the fake city.

The gates opened with a heavy clang, and a wave of students rushed in. Their shoes slapped against the pavement, and excited voices filled the air.

Neito Monoma walked in behind them—not running and shouting, but calmly.

He looked around.

The fake city was impressive. Tall metal buildings, cracked sidewalks, broken-down cars, traffic lights hanging crooked. It all looked so real, but it was built for one purpose: testing students.

Then came the noise.

**CLANK-CLANK-CLANK!**

Robots.

Big and small machines rolled in from side streets and behind buildings. Their eyes glowed red. Sensors beeped as they scanned for students. Some of them had sharp arms. Others had wheels or spider-like legs.

Students began to scream—some in fear, some in excitement.

"Here they come!"

"Let's go!"

"Smash them!"

A student with fire on his hands blasted a small robot. Another girl used vines to tie one down. One boy floated into the air, using wind to fly past a robot's laser.

Neito still didn't move. His hands stayed in his pockets as he calmly watched.

He stood near a broken wall. Dust from a falling building drifted in the wind. Sparks flew in the distance where a robot exploded.

Then he noticed something strange.

One of the robots stopped moving. Its red eye blinked twice—then went dark—and it shut down quietly.

No one was near it.

Or so it seemed.

But Neito saw two gloves behind the robot, like floating on an invisible rack.

"Invisibility," he muttered.

Toru Hagakure—the invisible girl—was behind the robot. Neito couldn't see her body, but he could hear her steps on the gravel.

The robot had scanned the area, but it couldn't detect her.

From behind, Toru quietly opened a small panel on the robot's back.

_Click._

The robot sparked and shut down, falling forward with a metallic thud.

"Whew," said Toru softly. "Didn't see that coming, huh?"

Neito thought to himself with realization in his eyes.

"So that's how she passed the entrance exam in the original story."

Then he looked at the robot heading toward him.

"Guess it's my turn."

He took a breath and activated a quirk.

His legs tensed.

His hair shifted slightly.

Two long white rabbit ears grew from the top of his head.

His whole body felt lighter—but also full of power. This was the Rabbit Quirk—the one used by Hero Mirko.

Neito crouched slightly.

**BOOM!**

He jumped into the air like a bullet.

He shot straight up—three stories high—and landed on a building wall with ease. His feet barely made a sound as they touched the wall. Then, he kicked off it.

**WHOOSH!**

He slammed into a robot below with a powerful axe kick.

**CRASH!**

The robot shattered, parts flying everywhere.

Nearby students gasped.

"Wha—who was that?!"

Another robot turned to him.

Neito grinned. "I knew this quirk was strong. Now I'll show you how Mirko killed two Nomus using this quirk."

He flipped through the air, spun, and kicked straight through another robot's chest.

**Boom!**

It exploded in sparks.

He ran forward—so fast, the dust behind him flew up like smoke.

Kick.

Flip.

Wall-jump.

Another robot exploded.

He bounced off buildings like a wild animal. Every move was fast and sharp. His rabbit ears twitched with every step, listening for movement.

A small group of students stopped fighting just to watch.

"He's like a blur!"

"He moves like that pro hero—what's her name? Mirko?!"

"Look at those ears! Is that his quirk?"

In the corner of the field, Toru paused.

She had just disabled another small robot, but she was staring at Neito.

"He's… amazing," she thought.

She looked down at her invisible hands.

"My quirk isn't strong like that. I just sneak around…"

But then she smiled to herself. "Still! I can do what I can. Let's go!"

She ran toward more robots, staying low and silent.

Time passed.

The fake city was a mess now—pieces of robots scattered everywhere, smoke rising from the ground, broken walls, sparks flying.

Neito stood on top of a car, panting lightly, eyes scanning the street.

"Almost done," he said quietly. "Just a few more."

But then…

**BOOM.**

The ground trembled.

A huge shadow fell across the buildings.

The air got heavier.

A robot taller than the buildings rolled into view.

It was the Zero Pointer.

It had no face—just a giant metal body, huge tank-like arms, and heavy tank treads that crushed cars as it rolled forward.

The red eye glowed like a warning sign.

"W-WHAT IS THAT?!" someone screamed.

"Zero Pointer!" another student shouted. "Run!! It's too big! It gives no points anyway!!"

All the students near it turned and ran for their lives.

Even the brave ones.

Neito stood still, looking up at it.

"…Huh," he said. "No one left to save. No rescue points to earn."

He turned to walk away.

But then…

His rabbit ears twitched.

He stopped.

He heard something.

"Help…"

It was tiny.

So faint.

Almost a whisper.

Neito turned back to the robot.

He jumped down from the car and ran toward the road where the robot had come from.

"Is someone there?!"

No answer.

He crouched and listened.

"…Nnnh…"

He heard it again. A weak sound—like someone was under the rubble.

"Someone's under the rubble," he muttered. "Or maybe they are invisible."

He looked up at the Zero Pointer.

"I guess I have to fight you."

Neito dashed toward it and leapt high into the air.

BAM! He kicked the robot's torso with all his strength.

The metal bent—but didn't break.

He bounced off and landed, breathing harder now.

"This robot is tougher than I thought…"

He turned off the Rabbit Quirk.

And activated another.

His body began to grow.

His legs stretched.

His arms thickened.

He grew taller…

Taller…

Until he was as big as the robot.

This was the Gigantification Quirk, copied from Hero Mount Lady.

Neito cracked his neck and smiled.

"Why don't you fight someone your own size, Zero Pointer?"

CRASH! He punched the robot's chest.

BOOM! He kicked its wheels, making it stumble.

The ground trembled with every step Neito took.

He decided to go for one more hit—Neito grabbed the robot's head, smiled at it, and slammed it into the ground with a judo throw.

**KA-BOOOOM!**

Dust filled the air. And the robot lay in pieces.

Neito shrunk back to normal size slowly, breathing deeply.

Students around the field were frozen.

"Did he just… take down the Zero Pointer?!"

"Who is that guy?!"

"That's Neito Monoma! The child prodigy!"

"I heard he trained overseas!"

In the control room, teachers watched the screens.

"He used two high-level quirks," said Aizawa. "One after another."

Midnight nodded. "That's Monoma's copy quirk, right?"

Nezu sipped his tea and smiled. "He's not limited to one power. Neito copied some good quirks, and he's using them wisely."

Back at the rubble, Neito found her. Two floating gloves behind the rubble.

It was Toru Hagakure—she was hurt and barely able to speak.

"You okay?" he asked.

"My arm… I think I broke it… can you please call the nurse?" she whispered.

Neito shook his head gently.

"No need."

He activated another quirk—Heal, copied from Recovery Girl.

He bent down and softly kissed her invisible hand.

Her wound closed.

The pain disappeared.

Toru gasped. "Wha—?"

"There. All better," Neito said, standing up.

She sat there, holding her hand.

"Um… thank you…"

Neito just nodded.

"See you around."

He walked away.

Toru stared after him, heart racing.

"…He was so fast… then he became huge… and now he healed me… and I think… I think I saw him turn invisible just now?"

She hugged her knees.

"…What is his quirk…?"
