Back at the cabin, Evelyn Ford quickly went into the bathroom for a shower. She didn't come out until the smell of blood was completely gone. The others were still working in the cotton fields, so only Taylor Vance was in the cabin. He had been in charge of cooking lately. After drying her hair, Evelyn went to the kitchen, where Taylor was kneading dough.
"Is it ten o'clock already? The meal isn't ready yet, just a little longer. You must be hungry, right? I baked some mung bean cakes today. They're in the insulated container over there."
Evelyn poured a glass of water and shook her head. "It's only nine. No rush."
Opening the insulated container, the aroma of mung bean cakes wafted out. Evelyn called Wendy's name, and Wendy came running in her slippers.
"Coming, coming! What's good to eat?"
