Chapter 8 - Chapter 8: Evan Fairchild

Ian Monroe's little face instantly flushed red, even redder than the big apple in his hands.

Melody Monroe truly had no defense against this little guy.

After the body's original owner gave birth to Ian Monroe, she had probably seen him no more than ten times in the past three years. He was always left in the care of nannies, and there had been several of them at that.

If Ian Monroe were to suddenly appear before the original owner, she probably wouldn't even recognize her own son.

That was why when Melody Monroe first woke up and asked who Ian Monroe was, he had sadly stated his own name.

He was afraid his mommy wouldn't recognize him.

"Sweetheart, if you don't say anything, Mommy won't eat, you know," Melody Monroe continued to tease him.

Suddenly, a scene flashed across the television.

"At 9:30 this morning, Evan Fairchild was filmed walking out of the international airport!"

"Mr. Fairchild is rumored to be involved with international superstar Helen Hogben! The two were once photographed entering and exiting a high-end, ocean-view hotel, as well as vacationing there! Furthermore, Mr. Fairchild has invested in every one of Helen Hogben's productions. It makes you wonder if Mr. Fairchild will establish an entertainment company after returning to the country. Will he be entering the entertainment industry?"

Melody Monroe stared at the screen.

A man in a dark suit, who looked to be around six-foot-three, was walking out of the airport. Even just his back projected an inviolable aura.

Melody Monroe immediately found the remote and switched the TV off!

Her action took everyone in the room by surprise, and three pairs of eyes stared at her in unison.

"The TV is too loud. My head hurts a little," Melody Monroe quickly came up with an excuse.

Ian Monroe struggled to climb onto the bed and lay down beside his mother, looking very worried.

"It's nothing. I'll be fine after lying down for a bit." Melody Monroe took Ian Monroe's little hand and gently rubbed it in her palm.

"Miss Monroe, you just had surgery. You must get proper rest so your wound can heal faster," Talia Mercer reminded her softly.

"I know." Melody Monroe nodded, then turned to the little guy beside her and said, "Mommy's going to sleep for a bit. Be a good boy and don't run off."

Hugging the big apple, Ian Monroe tilted his small body and leaned against Melody Monroe.

He wasn't going anywhere. He would stay right by his mother's side, never leaving her.

A warmth spread through Melody Monroe's heart. She raised her arm and hugged Ian Monroe. "Then sleep with Mommy for a little while."

Ian Monroe immediately nodded obediently.

The moment Melody Monroe closed her eyes, a scene surfaced in her mind.

Inside a luxurious hotel room, a man sat on the bed. The dim lighting couldn't hide the coldness between his brows. The entire room felt suffocatingly oppressive just because of his presence.

He wore an expensive black suit, each button fastened neatly, exuding a stern and profound air.

He was naturally cold, arrogant, and aloof, and now, filled with anger, he was even more domineering!

"Evan!"

"Shut up!" Two words floated from his thin lips, disdainful and merciless.

"President Fairchild, I'm begging you, for the sake of me giving birth to Ian, please let me go! I'll buy a plane ticket and leave the country right now. I'll never come back, and I'll never appear before you and Ian again! I'm begging you!"

The man stood up, his presence becoming even more oppressive!

"Melody Monroe! You know damn well what you've done."

"I admit it, I admit it all! Do you really have to see me go to prison before you'll let me off?"

"Prison? That would be letting you off easy!"

"President Fairchild, even though I'm getting older and can't compare to those trending starlets, I still hold a significant position in the entertainment industry! Aren't you afraid I'll take you down with me?"
