Chapter 9 - Chapter 9: Can No Longer Love

"You? You think you have what it takes to drag me down with you? Tomorrow, the media will be flooded with reports of your suicide out of guilt!"

"Evan Fairchild! What exactly are you trying to do?"

Evan Fairchild took out a recording pen, and all the color drained from Melody Monroe's face.

"Everything you've done is recorded on this. Once you're dead, I can release it to the media."

"Evan Fairchild! I loved you so much! I did so many wicked things, but I never once did anything to wrong you! How much did I give for Starfall Entertainment? How much did I give for you? You can't possibly be unaware of all that!"

"That's why I'm letting you die with a little dignity!"

Yes, Ian Monroe was Evan Fairchild's biological son.

And the original owner of this body had ultimately died at Evan Fairchild's hands—the hands of the only man she had ever, and most deeply, loved.

After her death, her reputation was utterly destroyed.

Everything, whether she had done it or not, was piled on her.

When she was reading the book, Evan Fairchild had been her favorite character. She felt his character setup was even more compelling than the male lead's.

Too bad he wasn't part of the main plot, just a supporting character.

Now, she felt the urge to cry. She could never love this character again.

...

A week later, Melody Monroe was discharged from the hospital.

After completing the discharge procedures, she sat alone in her hospital room, waiting for Rose Shaw.

During her time in the hospital, she had made a plan for herself.

First, she sorted out the original owner's financial situation.

There was 500,000 yuan in one bank account—payment she had just received for a role, which she probably hadn't had time to squander yet. The original owner was a very extravagant person, especially when it came to spending on herself, and often lived beyond her means.

Besides that one debit card, there were also four credit cards. After paying them off, she was left with just over 82,000 yuan.

That amount of money might not have lasted the original owner more than a few days, but for Melody Monroe—an orphan who had lost her parents at a young age and was raised by her uncle—it was an absolute fortune.

Thankfully, Stellaris provided housing for its artists, so Melody Monroe could save on that expense.

She couldn't stay in her previous high-end apartment anymore. It was too conspicuous, and the media was constantly watching her every move. Rose Shaw had arranged a new place for her.

Although it was a bit remote and not well-served by public transport, it was a suitable place for her and Ian to live together. There was a kindergarten nearby, so she wouldn't have to worry about his schooling.

Rose Shaw pushed open the door to the hospital room and walked in, followed by a fashionably dressed man.

"Let me introduce you. This is Tony. He's here to do your makeup and styling. There are a lot of reporters and fans outside, so you need to appear before everyone in your best condition."

"Okay," Melody Monroe nodded.

"Miss Monroe, please have a seat over here."

Tony had already turned the table in the room into a makeshift makeup station, covering it with a dazzling array of cosmetics.

In less than half an hour, Tony had finished Melody Monroe's makeup.

Rose Shaw stared at the face in the mirror, momentarily lost in a daze.

Even though she had seen countless handsome men and beautiful women, she was still captivated by Melody Monroe's face.

This face was completely natural. It had never been under the knife, not even for minor adjustments. Moreover, it was incredibly versatile—not just a single type of beauty. With just a slight change in styling, it could present a whole new look, leaving people constantly stunned.

'A face like that definitely had what it takes to conquer the entertainment industry!'

"I'm working on getting you a spot for the charity gala. If I can secure it, I'll introduce you to Producer Scott and we'll see if we can line up some suitable roles."
