Silence.
I stare at the empty spot where the girl stood while my mind recalls what just happened in the past two minutes of standing in front of her door.
All of a sudden, I feel like a brick is slammed to my face upon the realization. "You have a daughter…" I mumble, my eyes slowly flitting back to Malia, who has gone snow white.
She swallows, crossing her arms across her chest and lifting her chin up. "What are you doing here?" she asks in a clipped tone.
I can only stare at her, greatly surprised at what I just learned. I'm suddenly unsure of how to talk to her, so my mouth fills in what I couldn't fully muster. "You… forgot… your phone… in my car…"
I must've given it to her because when I look down, she's inspecting the thing and releasing a sigh. "So that's where it was. I thought I'd lost it. Thanks."
"No problem."
"…"
