Ceres offered a faint, practiced smile to the passing staff, while Eli simply gave his usual crisp, professional nod. They walked side by side down the bustling hospital corridor, Eli carrying the bag of plastic bento containers. Even though the boyfriend charade had been his idea, the heavy, curious stares from the morning shift made the back of his neck prickle with awkwardness.
"Belle won't be on regular floor duty for now," Eli explained smoothly to a lingering head nurse, keeping his voice leveled. "She's working directly under me as my assistant while we try to jog her memory. I'd appreciate it if everyone could look out for her."
"Oh, absolutely, Doc! Don't you worry, we'll take great care of your girlfriend."
"Right. Thank you," Eli murmured.
