Chapter 13 - A Blessing and A Blade

Several weeks had passed. Soon, everyone would stare at Leo as he walked through the village as he went about his business. At first, it was bothersome. But after a while, he began to grow used to it. The word was out now that he was a Symbiont of the Dragons. He began to stay deep in the forests with Twilight.

The dragon was growing massive with each passing day. Their conversations grew more and more intellectual as they went along.

Twilight had also gotten better with his flight. Eventually, the two were able to fly together.

Also, during these days, Leo had become better with the sword, training every day with Jasper and a few swordsmen.

It was warming up greatly. The snow was, for the most part, gone. Leo had been watching the crops grow their buds.

The robins and song birds had come from the south to sing their songs of a new coming summer.

Leo had just stepped into the house after helping a farmer transporting goods to the market.

He paused when he saw his father this sitting at the dining room table reading a scroll of fine print. He looked up and set the tomes down.

"Son," His deep voice said. He picked up the teacup that sat upon the table before him and took a sip.

Leo set his sword down at the door and sat down across from his father.

"Yes?"

"I have to talk to you."

Leo widened his eyes.

"Uh...what do you mean?"

"It might rude of me to say. But I think your potential is being wasted away in this town," His father said.

"You are a wonderful person. I enjoy hearing the high recognition of you from the townspeople. How hard you work. How much you help them. And knowing that with your newfound power, you saved us from something diabolical. But it's time for me to grant you a blessing that you begin a new life."

Leo's jaw dropped with shock.

"Now hold on just a-"

"No, Leo," His father interrupted him with a stern eye.

"I thought I'd raised you with better manners than that, my boy."

Leo cast his eyes down.

"Sorry, Father."

The man nodded in approval.

"I see a powerful soldier in my son. You hold something dear and precious. And it is time for me to have you see to it that you become stronger. Find love. Find your future. Because I certainly can't do it for you."

Leo sighed and put his head in his palm.

"Well...do you have a suggestion?"

His father took a rather serious look upon his face. He pushed his chair back and walked to a corner of the dining room.

"Well. I believe that you being that of a Dragon rider," he pressed in a panel of wood on the wall and a hidden door opened beside it.

"And that of a Symbiote, I think it is a good idea to give you this."

He retrieved a long box from inside and carried it over to the table in front of Leo. Leo sat flabbergasted for several minutes staring at the box.

"What is it?"

"It was passed down for ages through the Saphiric family. It was forged and crafted eons ago. Take a look."

Leo reached up slowly and opened the box.

He gasped at what he beheld inside.

Upon a deep blue cushion lay a long hand and a half sword.

The hilt was forged in a sparkling gold with silver vines inlaid into it. The sheath was a sparkling blue metal with a similar vine design made in gold.

He picked it up, surprised at how easy it was for him to lift.

Leo stood up and slowly pulled the sword from its sheath and stared in awe.

The blade was of steel with a black color and brilliantly bright blue edges. Runes of an ancient style were etched into the metal near the hilt and finger guards. Leo was astonished at the beauty.

"That sword was made with pure diamond edges," His father began to explain.

"Through the many generations of its passing down, that blade has seen many battles. However, the blade will never dull even in the most perilous attacks. I believe you will find it useful."

Leo continued to marvel at the sheer beauty of the sword before he sheathed it and set it in the box. He bowed to his father.

"I will wear it with honor."
