Chapter 15 - A Hard Hand and Fire

After awhile Leo had finished setting a large sheet of canvas over a large half circle of small logs he had stacked against a fallen tree. Once the canvas was secured, he took a second one out of his pack and draped it over the top.

Leo stepped back and examined his handy work. A perfect lean-to. He then dug a pit and set the remaining sticks into it.

Suddenly realizing that he had no steel and flint, he sat back with a pout.

"Well. It looks like no fire will be lit tonight," he mumbled to himself.

He stood up and then stopped after a moment, frozen, staring at the pit.

'But wait...what if I had some ability to light it with nothing?'

The thought was most certainly enticing. Leo sat back down before the fire pit and stared at it with his head in his hands.

After a few minutes he extended his hand.

He closed his eyes and tried to concentrate.

'I do have something in me....The question is how do I access it?'

His lips part as he gritted his teeth.

Nothing.

He growled and lashed out with his fist.

He suddenly realized his hand felt warm.

Leo opened his eyes and stumbled back as he saw his hand was on fire. But not just any fire. These flames were blue.

After seeing that he wasn't burning, he stared in awe.

'So my power Is fueled by rage?'

He looked at the fire in his hand. It was like holding a stone.

He took the fire and threw it into the pit like a ball.

the wood caught light quickly, changing color to that of a normal fire.

He sat back and sighed with satisfaction.

"Hey Leo!"

He looked up to see Lucille standing there with two dead rabbits.

He jumped in surprise.

"What the-how the hell!?"

Lucille smiled with a giggle.

"How'd I what?"

Leo recovered from his surprise and looked up at her with a frown.

"So you went hunting?"

She nodded happily.

"I figured you'd like a hot meal."

She began to skin the rabbits and prep them over the fire.

Leo stared for a moment. Then without thought, his mouth opened to let out a question he'd regret after the fact.

"You can cook?"

The demon's eyes flashed in an iridescent red glow before she slapped him hard across the face.

"Of course I can cook, stupid! What do you take me to be? An uneducated succubus only interested in intercouse?!"

Leo's jaw dropped.

"Um...no, not really!," He said nervously.

Lucille pouted and turned back to the fire.

Leo rubbed his cheek where she smacked him.

'Ugh this is going to be a long night.'
