The darkness was suffocating. Crumbling into the tight space, his legs screamed out in pain at holding his body weight, but even experiencing a pain that would have him crying and begging, Edward didn't make a sound. The suffocating hardwood around him was foreign but extremely familiar. He could remember something like the terrifying darkness around him. Covering his ears and closing his eyes, he refused to look into the dark or hear anything.
He couldn't understand why he was so scared, why his body shook uncontrollably. He tried to open his mouth and scream out for help, but not a sound, nor even a breath of air, came out. He wanted to throw himself at the door, knowing it was unlocked, but he couldn't. With his eyes closed, fragments resurfaced. Endless darkness, floorboards, blank faces, he would never remember.
