Chapter 9 - Chapter 9: Catching Sparrows

The most practical thing about space is definitely the various seeds. She swept through an entire warehouse's stock back then, with plenty of grains, vegetables, and flower seeds.

"Such a big space, it would be a waste not to make good use of it." Xiaomi directed herself to slowly categorize the supplies stored in the space.

"Shanghai green? Vegetables, that side; Sunflower? Over here; American ginseng? Wow, there's actually ginseng, what a precious item, if grown successfully, it could be worth a fortune!"

Quickly placing the American ginseng seeds separately, Xiaomi soon realized that she was excited too early, as there were also Reishi Mushroom Packages, Changbai Mountain ginseng seeds, snow lotus, rhizoma corydalis, and so on—everything was there!

By the end, Xiaomi was numbed.

But what made Xiaomi happiest were the rice, wheat, and corn seeds.

"Great, finally found them! These are the hybrid seeds improved by great men, yielding over a thousand kilograms per mu!"

Xiaomi carefully placed the three bags of twenty pounds of seeds each in place. This stuff was the most valuable.

Those rare medicinal herbs could at most be exchanged for some Silver, but these seeds, if well utilized, could support a nation's population!

As she remembered, various wars and disasters in history mostly started because of food scarcity.

Based on the information she gathered these days, her parents were war refugees. Although it's temporarily peaceful now, the court didn't have much food, and when they settled down, their family of four was only allocated twenty pounds of grain.

This shows that regardless of which dynasty this is, food is definitely scarce.

She touched the three bags of seeds as if they were precious gems, grinning foolishly at them: "Don't worry, wait for me another two years, and I'll definitely let you see the light of day again."

After being silly, Xiaomi turned her attention back to those supplies: "If I remember correctly, I seemed to see sweet potatoes and potatoes in the supermarket back then."

After all, the items in this space retain their original state when taken out, with no concern of spoiling.

However, in her past life, she had categorized these supplies, but perhaps due to crossing over, everything was mixed together and needed to be sorted again.

Just as she was about to continue her work, she heard her mother's voice: "Why is San Ni not moving? San Ni, San Ni?"

Xiaomi quickly exited the space, opened her eyes, and looked at her mother with a bright smile, thinking: Mother, I'm checking what can support our family.

Seeing Xiaomi babbling and laughing, her second mother finally felt relieved and picked Xiaomi up to lean against the wall: "San Ni, have some milk, and after that, go to sleep with your father."

Without hesitation, Xiaomi drank the bland milk in big gulps. The taste was not good, almost like water, mainly because her mother had poor nutrition, even with Xiaomi secretly feeding powdered milk daily.

However, Xiaomi also knew that the benefits of breast milk couldn't be completely replaced by powdered milk. Babies who drank breast milk were said to have stronger immunity and resistance than those who drank only formula.

So she still had to drink it without hesitation.

After drinking from one side, Xiaomi was only half full, but she pretended to be satisfied and babbled to indicate she wanted to sleep.

She still had to go back to the space to prepare formula, as she forgot to give her little brother some earlier.

"San Ni, are you full? Want some more?" Her second mother changed her position, but Xiaomi turned her face away to avoid it.

No more, no more, this side is almost finished by her little brother, any more and her mother would be uncomfortable!

Xiaomi babbled to refuse.

Her second mother had no choice but to hand Xiaomi to Jiang Hu: "Can you believe San Ni is much older than Tie Dan but eats as little as he does?"

Hearing the name Tie Dan, Xiaomi couldn't help but feel amused, accidentally bubbling a bit.

When her little brother grew up, this would definitely be an embarrassing history! She must call him by this name often in the future!

Jiang Hu saw Xiaomi's bright smile, feeling like his heart was melting: "It's okay, look how healthy San Ni looks. She must have eaten enough."

Her second mother nodded. True enough, though both San Ni and Tie Dan didn't eat much, they grew well, even larger than when they were newborns.

Her second mother covered the sleeping Da Wa and Er Ni with a quilt, then lay beside Tie Dan: "People say babies grow fast in the first month. Look how much bigger Tie Dan has grown since birth."

Jiang Hu placed Xiaomi next to Tie Dan and lay on the outermost side, protecting his wife and children: "Yes, from the looks of it now, both San Ni and Tie Dan can be raised well."

Her second mother nodded, whispering her belief.

Jiang Hu extinguished the only oil lamp in the house, urging her to sleep quickly.

Xiaomi's consciousness returned to space, where she prepared the formula she drank every night and then got ready to sleep.

Late at night, she fed Tie Dan and her father formula first, followed by breastfeeding, then fed her older brother and sister formula, finished the second round, and was carried by her mother to continue breastfeeding, eventually sleeping beside her mother, alternating between feeding her mother and Tie Dan formula.

And thus, the night passed.

Xiaomi's biological clock was exceptionally precise, waking up precisely on time, never missing a beat.

Perhaps because their stomachs weren't so empty anymore, everyone slept more soundly, too.

The next morning, as Xiaomi woke up, she heard the patter of rain and her second mother's conversation with Jiang Hu.

Thankfully they had already repaired the roof, or they would have suffered now.

Jiang Hu covered the family with quilts and, upon getting up and opening the door, was greeted by the flapping sound of a flock of sparrows flying away.

Jiang Hu was startled: "No, Er Niang, I'm going to set traps first. When Da Wa and Er Ni wake up, tell them not to rush out."

With that, Jiang Hu grabbed a winnowing basket and the grass ropes everyone wove together last night, heading out while closing the door behind him.

Xiaomi got excited too, sparrows, sparrows, meat! If her father could catch sparrows, they could improve their meals!

Her face was immediately patted gently: "Does San Ni also want to see Daddy catch sparrows? Mother will take you to peek at the door."

Yes, yes, thank you, Mom!

Xiaomi quickly expressed her gratitude.

Even though her second mother couldn't understand what San Ni said, she knew San Ni must be happy: "Hehe, let's go, I'll take you to see."

Though giving birth was difficult for her, she was not so weak that she couldn't get out of bed. Having rested for several days, and nourished by the Spiritual Spring water, her recovery was quite good.

Holding Xiaomi, her second mother went to the door and opened it slightly: "Okay, we can look for a bit, then have to go back in, can't stay here long."

Xiaomi nodded repeatedly to show she understood, though only babbling sounds came out.

However, she saw her father tying grass rope onto a tree branch, using it to support a winnowing basket, a simplest trap.

And within moments, sparrows had already returned to the vegetable plot in the yard.
