Chapter 21 - Ch 20 - legacies

The silence in the church was broken by heavy footfalls, each step brought them closer and closer to me till they stopped right next to me so I decided to look. adam was standing there looking at me he had a smile I would expect to see from Hannah.

"Glad to see you in here." he said in a tone I hadn't heard from him in a long time. He was still Adam so he didn't give me a moment to respond.

"Take a moment and pray, you will need it." he said in his serious tone and made his way outside his footfalls not near as heavy as they were before.

"Lord Whatever this is, whatever is going on, and whatever you need I commit into your hands, I don't know what it's about but I will trust you. Amen." I could bearly look up as I made my way out of the pews and down the walkway way my footfalls were now heavy. Exiting the church I saw him there waiting by the steps and upon seeing me he began walking.

"We are going to train in the field you and Hannah were in yesterday" his tone even and I was happy to see Adam again. quickly walking up beside him we made our way to the park before stopping. he reached out his hand and I knew where this was going. walking underneath his hand he grabbed and picked me up before jumping much higher than the last time I was a sack of potatoes but that meant it only took a few jumps to reach our destination. landing he set me on my feet and began stretching.

"We are descendents of Cain, champions of murder and some of the best fighters based not just on legacies but mentality too." he started still stretching and looking away.

"Our legacies, abilities, or one of the few things I will call magic one easy to us as we can learn them without effort but mastery takes a lifetime." He turned around summoned and shifted his knife into a sword before plunging into the ground between us.

"Why teach me now, why not first if legacies are the more natural powers?" I had been holding onto this question since my training with Mandella as they each seemed to have some weird powers only they could use.

"You need to learn the proper way. Now as things are progressing too fast a one demon scout party is one thing but 2 demon hunter squads are another and since we just said we are not gonna play by his rules." He shook his head and explained not exasperated but worried if I could see his eyes I would have been sure.

"Also not powers just a rule it helps you think about it more as natural abilities." he said a bit more seriously.

"Since you already have some experience with it we are gonna start with your legacy aura, The First Blood." finally progress and name the red aura the First Blood.

"Only make a little as one of its properties is the ability to slow down healing from any source so even if you get hurt you will heal slower but it works much better on those you attack." now his actions make a bit more sense but they still confused me.

"The aura quality will be naturally better than your gray aura and progress faster. so for now keep it about half your gray aura level." What?

"Why?"

"Firstly because it will take you a bit to get used to the power difference, Secondly because if you have too much it can and will awaken your Beast of Cain, and thirdly and most importantly because I said so." he left no room to argue so I just gave up and focused on myself.

Closing my eyes I feel my vessel with my aura inside already, using that and intuition I find a little bit of Red... The First Blood inside made me struggle before. Finding it, it had shifted again and resisted my prying even more than my gray aura before. activating my aura I channeled it towards that bit of aura but it didn't work, it began slowly absorbing my manna but didn't react further. After about a minute I changed up and tried feeding my aura into it but that worked ever less effectively than before so after even less time than before I gave up.

"It's not working I can't get any aura I can't even feel it react at all." I saw opening my eyes to a confused Adam who began scratching his head.

"That's strange usually the Active aura legacies are the easiest to use?" he began muttering to himself walking around his sword.

"Hannah did say you had a small amount of the First Blood aura inside of you when she taught you aura so I am a bit confused?" He continued in his musings occasionally looking at me like he was trying to look right through me.

"You said that you can't feel it that isn't good." he finally stopped and began thinking very hard.

"Ok, let's try the other legacies then, it's called the Bloody Handprint or The Mark of Cain." giving up he changed tactics which I really didn't mind.

"it works by materializing your will and transforming something you cherish into a weapon." his explanations were worse than Mandella's as I tried to figure out what he was going on about.

"Therefore it is recommended to use something you have a deep connection to." as he said that only one thing came to mind.

"Wait don't you use a knife?" I ask only to be greeted by a blank expression

"Yes, did you figure out what you were going to choose?" his defection was noted but as he was currently the only one with a sword I decided that pushing my luck might not be worth it. Luckily I didn't need to think too hard about it.

"Would this work?" I ask removing my necklace and showing it to him.

"Yes, it will work very nicely." he said with a smile I couldn't help but smile thinking about my necklace.

"Now hold it in your hands and close your eyes, listen to what I'm going to say because this will help you understand what you need to do." I do as he asks because it generally seems to help so I twirl the necklace around my hand and into my palm before cupping it and closing my eyes.

"Channel your manna into your hand and toward your necklace the manna won't interact with it but it will interact with you." I do the same thing I tried when my first aura released my aura in my hands directing it at the necklace. I nod and he continues with his explanations.

"Focus on your anger you want to be just bearly containing it and focus it into your hands"

"you are not forming this to defend but to kill this is a weapon and must be handled as such so think of it as what you will be using to kill" I freeze almost opening my eyes kill, we have been fighting demons this whole time where is this coming from? besides this seeming a bit detached from his other points I listened nonetheless and refocused on the necklace. Feeling a Tingling almost numbing sensation in my hand I continue focusing on it and focus more trying to capture and remember the sensation. Something else must have been happening as Adam continued.

"You don't choose how your weapon comes out it takes its form regardless of you so you need to keep an open mind." I began thinking less about a sword sadly and just tried to imagine the type of weapon it could be. but I didn't have to wait too long. The sensation leaves my hands and I can feel the necklace again but it's different now. sperate from its form which I can feel changing I can feel it like it was a part of me, the heat from my skin the chill from the chain in the wind, and the feeling of aura moving within it.

"well done, you are officially an awakened descendent" Looking down in my hand I see a large sword in my hand. it was gold entirely from tip to base which was just shorter than Adam's sword. its tip was rounded and had two spikes on its edges its crossguard was the same. its edge reached all around the front to the down spikes on the guard. the dandle was the last piece of the cross necklace and had a grip too long for one hand but too short for two. but it continued the pommel of the sword was the connecter of the necklace and the chain had grown and extended to lying coiled around me twice over. it was quite a strange sword.

"It's quite weird." I say turning it around in my hand

"Maybe but you can't change it so get used to it" a bit disappointed but at least it was a sword so I lifted it up to my face and gave it a look.

"Yes, you ever play any sports or was it just cars?" he just seemed to remember that and it just left me a bit confused, how did they know I worked with cars? No, I don't want to know.

"I, ah, Played Tennis." I ask racking my brain i i did in fact spend more time in the garage. I did obviously play Four Square or soccer at the break but I didn't think that was what he was referring to.

"Perfect that will work." his almost energetic response confused me.

"Does that have anything to do with swordsmanship?" he almost burst out laughing at my question but managed to pull himself back together.

"OH heerlik no, but you at least have an idea on how to stay light on your feet and hit something heading towards you so we can work on that." He said walking past his sword and right towards me. We took a break from awakening my legacies so he could kick my ass. no matter what I did he could always land a hit first. and I just couldn't even by moving mostly in a straight line I struggled to graze him so after an actual break he decided to go back to teaching which I was a bit thankful for.

"So are you ready to awaken your aura?" Adam asks looking over at me

"Yup let us go for it?" I ask looking up at the sky and enjoying the almost camp-like view of the stars away from all the city lights.

"Are you ready this might hurt?" Adam said a bit too nonchalantly.

"Is there any lesson you guys have that doesn't have a pain section?" I ask jokingly but that seemed to get a bit of a reaction out of him.

"Sadly not, But whatever you do don't get used to it that will kill you first." he was very serious now so I could only look at him and nod in reply. His reply was moving a bit closer he put his hand on my shoulder and I knew this was gonna be awful.

"Ok, your body and your Beast of Cain will try and resist this so we will forcibly start your legacy to try and resist. all you need to do is try and power your legacy." he said and waited for my reply so after a second of preparation I nodded and began to feel a terrible cold feeling from his hand. his aura wasn't too bad at first but that quickly changed my body began to seize up but I resisted it. but too soon that wasn't possible as my body was freezing from the inside out and my aura was reacting violently to the intrusion I couldn't hold it in anymore.

"Haaaaaaaaa" My vision drowned in red all I could hear was a scream a roar one from my throat but not from me as the red began to desatureate and open forgotten memories one locked away now laid bear.
