Chapter 2 - The Goddess At The Boundary Gives me A J*b.

"Why am I here, cause I'm damn sure this isn't hell." I inquire, feeling out of it.

The Angel or "Nemesis" as she calls herself, voiced a sigh "This is not hell, but I remember when it existed along with heaven and infinite other realms. That time has long passed.

I'm afraid to tell you there is no longer an after life." her voice sounding sorrowful.

"Then what happens when you die?"

I asked cautiously.

"Your already here I call it: The Boundary.

An infinite white void, and you will be forever conscious, able to see and think but never able to speak or move.

You are to be trapped in your own mind but with no body, in such a state most succumb to madness and finally disappear.

The ones that stay relatively sane are even more miserable as they are used as puppets with their souls piloting the flesh of Monsters with the Implanted desire to destroy."

"That's way worse than just "No longer Existing" but if that's true, how are we talking right now?." I ask in confused curiosity.

"I am a Goddess, my soul is far more powerful then any mortal. It allows some laws

to be bent, though not broken."

"I'm not stupid enough to think that you are talking to me out of the kindness of your heart. So... what do you want?, and what do I get out of it?" I caught her angle.

My experience as a criminal was useful for something at least.

"All I desire is for you to become my next Knight. You will soon see that the reward for doing so is quite appealing."

I looked at her trying to analyze for any hint of deception, though considering how i got here I'm not sure how good i am a detecting that anymore.

If she thought i was some honorable knight type id let her think that.

"Tell me the job then we'll see."

I had no body so I couldn't make any expressions but if I did it would be a thin smile.

"I need to explain how a few things work and some history first or you may not understand."

"Fine, go ahead."

"What do you think Luck is?"

"The statistic of a good outcome over a bad one." I was confident in my quick response.

"Incorrect...It's a resource and it can run dry. Every living thing has it, though it is not always working because I used to make sure no one wasted it."

"I don't understand, how?"

"Think of your fortune as a large pail of liquid. About half is used at your birth depending on the circumstances, if they were bad you use less, if good more, though the minimum is about 25%. Below that and all the would be parents would have is a stillborn. The rest of it is supposed to be used over the course of your entire life."

"And when you run out?"

I inquire.

"the exact moment of your death."

She answered.

"There is a being of immense power that will bring an end to life in all realms. It's name is Fatale or as the mortals call the god of Fate."

"How?"

"Fatale uses the power of fate to increase the fortune of so many that it denies the existence of the many things that desperately need it. If no more offspring exist the whole species ceases to exist as well."

"But why do you need me?"

"Your realm is not bound by Fatale and it is not constrained by its power of fate, this means your soul isn't either. the reason for this is because your realm exists within the Boundary. The Boundary exists outside of all laws, Including fate."

"So fate isn't predetermined events? it's just stealing the Luck out of things that don't exist yet intern prevents said things from existing, while at the same time this Fatale uses what it stole to do what exactly?"

"To create predetermined events, usually in the form of a story."

"Why does Fatale do it?"

"Because it doesn't want realistic stories. It wants epic tales of glory and grandeur. In a normal realm there would only be a few that were true. but in a realm controlled by fate. It is as if legends aren't legends but simply records of facts."

"You said earlier that heaven and hell are gone, why is that?"

"Fatale stole all of their nearly Infinite fortune to remake all the realms to fit its predetermined story."

"Do you know what that story is?"

"I'm afraid I am in the dark about the future as any mortal." Nemesis said apologetically.

"Yeah, in more ways then one"

I Glace at her black blindfold.

"So, do I need to do kill Fatale?"

I asked.

"No, nothing so impossible I just need you disrupt Fate in many different realms.

You will get the power of fate to its weakest so I may bring that realm into the Boundary."

"Ok I heard your spiel, now what do I get out of it?"

"My fortune and I'll resurrect you in your previous realm."

"Won't you die without it?"

"Correct but as long as the realms are safe I do not mind that outcome."

"Hmm..."

What other options do i have?

Wait here and eventually go insane and disappear or be turned into a monster.

What kind of life if is that?

After some thought i answered.

"Fine, I'll do it."

"Thank you. May your fortune never run dry." her voice sounding happy instead of

the rather monotone one she was using before.

That's when she faded from my sight.

I blinked and when my eyes opened again I found myself decently far behind a darker skinned short haired blonde girl wearing dazzling earrings and a veil on from the bridge of her nose downwards putting a Hatchet in some kind of holster on her back.

She was petting a an orange tabby cat as it was purring. Ahead of her I saw a building that had a sign it read "Bartleby's General Store" and I could faintly see a fat bald man through the window.

The girl went inside.

"What is this place?" not really expecting an answer.

Nemesis answered inside my head.

"It's the first place that Fatale spent its stolen fortune on : Grove.

It's also the one I know the most of. This city's story is fated to repeat over and over.

"So I'm in the past?" i said after getting over the minor surprise of her being in my head.

"Incorrect, the story is repeating not time itself."

"How do i stop it from repeating then?"

"You must become the hero of this generation before any of the other fated do, but unlike them Fatales stolen fortune will not be helping you."

"Great, i miss being unemployed already."
