Gu Nian listened and thought, good opportunity.
She took a few steps forward and, while Sanhu wasn't paying attention, whispered to Little Hu, "Little brother, let's go a bit further inside. I haven't gone into the mountains yet."
"That's not possible." Little Hu immediately shook his head, "There are wolves in the mountains, we can't go deeper."
Gu Nian looked back and saw that the hillside was mostly covered in waist-high wild grass. There were indeed wolves in the mountains, but they shouldn't come to the outskirts of the forest.
"Little brother, let's just go a little further up front. You see, it's all weeds here, hardly any wild vegetables. If we go to that little forest up ahead, it's not far, and the grass isn't tall there. There should be wild vegetables, and maybe even mushrooms and wood ear mushrooms..."
Gu Nian sweet-talked Little Hu and slowly coaxed him to move forward.
"Ouch!" Suddenly, something hit Gu Nian's leg hard, causing her to slip and fall to the ground.
However, beneath her belly, there was a furry thing struggling to escape.
Gu Nian felt scared, and with a thought, she took the thing into her magical space before she had a chance to see it clearly.
Little Hu quickly came back to help her up, "What happened? Did little sister fall? Are you hurt?"
Gu Nian quickly shook her head, "No, I just tripped a bit. I'm fine."
"Be careful..."
Listening to Little Hu's nagging, Gu Nian took a moment to glance inside her space. A snow-white little rabbit seemed bewildered in its new surroundings, clearly the same thing that had tripped her and was now inside her space.
Gu Nian covered her mouth, unable to hold back her glee.
Could this be good luck that can't be blocked even if you wanted to?
A wild rabbit bumped into her leg and ended up pinned under her, unable to escape.
Oh heavens, if only she'd have more luck like this, she wouldn't mind it at all.
As Gu Nian hoped, the weeds near the small forest were much less, and in the spots where sunlight penetrated the dense trees, there were plenty of fresh wild vegetables.
Gu Nian hadn't walked far before she discovered wood ear mushrooms on a dead tree, although they were already sun-dried to a crisp.
"Little brother, come quick, there's wood ear mushrooms here."
"I'm coming, where?"
Little Hu ran over to Gu Nian's side, looked at the rotten tree trunk, and laughed, "Sis, you were right, hardly anyone comes here, and there are indeed treasures. Let's pick them quickly."
As Little Hu spoke, he eagerly started picking, but Gu Nian didn't move, "Little brother, you pick those first. I'm going to check nearby for any other good stuff."
"Don't go too far!" Little Hu warned as he busily picked.
Gu Nian didn't go far, really. She found a sturdy stick nearby and used its end to poke small holes in the ground.
Then, she took out over a dozen ripe strawberries from her space and planted them in the holes, pressing the surrounding soil firm and covering it with a layer of dead leaves.
Gu Nian quickly picked a pile of peaches from her space and placed them on the ground. She also grabbed the rabbit by its ears from her space and called out loudly, "Little brother, little brother, come quick."
"What's up?" Little Hu heard the call, immediately gave up picking wood ear mushrooms, tossed his basket aside, and jogged over.
But when he drew closer, he witnessed a scene he would never forget.
Little Gu Nian was sitting on the ground, holding a plump rabbit by its ears in her arms, afraid to move. Beside her were about a dozen big peaches piled together, and behind her was a small patch of red berries growing.
