Chapter 2 - Extraordinary

"Truly extraordinary."

"What's so amazing, Furball?"

"The boy you all have brought in. His mutation is unique in how it works."

Hank was still running Asher through the usual gauntlet of tests they made new students go through but he already had a pretty good idea of what Asher's mutation was. Wolverine came to check on the results in order to report them to the rest of the team.

"At first, I thought that was just firing off razor wind slices or beams but that's not the case. On closer inspection, he is increasing his fingers' sharpness to unbelievable degrees."

"So he has sharp claws basically."

"No. That is very wrong, Logan. That would be like saying Scott generates his own eye beams. The boy's fingers and nails remain the same but he coats them in an invisible layer of energy that makes them act sharper."

"I still don't understand how that makes a difference."

Hank groaned at having to go into deeper detail on it. He wanted to continue paying close attention to the test but it was obvious that Logan would not give him that luxury.

"If my theory is correct, it makes all the difference. These are just his fingers. Soft and dull yet can still end up destroying a house with a few accidental swings. But if he were to coat a steel knife, he could most likely chop through even your skeleton."

"Oh. So he's like Silver Samurai. That does make quite the difference then. But why is it still only a theory? Why not just pass the kid a knife and see what he is capable of?"

"There is a noticeable difference between him and Silver Samurai. Silver always has the exact same output no matter what he uses. Whether he uses a spoon or katana, they will both cut the same way. Asher changes the sharpness of whatever he uses and can use his bare body. This makes the boy more dangerous than Silver Samurai unarmed and armed, depending on what he uses.

And because he already nearly destroyed his own home with his bare hands and has yet to properly control his power, we are sticking to theoretical for now. If we give him a weapon, he may end up hurting another student or destroying the school."

"Gotcha. So we stick to theories for now."

"Hmm."

While the two hairiest members of the X-Men were discussing Asher's powers and potential, the kid in question was about to pass out. He never had to work out so much in his whole life. And adding to the fact that Hank kept sending robots to try and beat him up didn't help with his stress.

Asher had just dodged a metal basketball flying towards his chest when he noticed a robot next to him along with its fist closing in on his face. The only thing Asher could do was pray that the blow wouldn't leave a scar.

Hank and Logan were discussing how they were expecting a large number of students when the summer break ended when they heard a change in vital signs. Both looked down and saw Asher laid out and one of the danger room drones over him.

"Hmm. So I gotta go report this. I'll leave checking up on the kid to you, Furball."

And with a speed that didn't match his small yet heavy frame, Logan easily avoided responsibility for the incident as well as helping out.

When Asher woke up, he was laying in the new room they had shown him a few hours ago with a major headache.

"I got my ass kicked by a random robot. How the hell am I going to fight Sentinels at this rate?"

While Asher was sulking, he heard a knock on the door.

"Yo. Anyone in there?"

"And the new roommate I wasn't supposed to have for another 2 months is here early. Great," Asher quietly complained to himself before shouting at the door. "Yeah. It's open."

Another teen around Asher's age walked into the room. As soon as he entered, Asher noticed something coming out of the other teens head. There were two lines floating above him that traveled over to Asher himself, one blue and the other green.

'Great. I have another part to my mutation. Guess I better report this to Ms. Frost later.'

While Asher was observing the lines between himself and the new teen, the other was also observing Asher.

'This is the kid I have to room with? He looks like one of those guys with entire brooms up their asses. Hopefully, he can at least keep his mouth shut when I sneak out or bring someone back.'

Unknown to Asher, he had already been labeled in his new roommate's mind. But it didn't matter to him. He wasn't really the roommate type in the first place and wasn't planning on trying to get to close to Julien either way.

Neither showed their true feelings on their faces though. Julian walked over and stretched out his hand to meet Asher's.

"Julian Keller. Pleasure."

Unknown if he would accidentally cut Julian, Asher didn't take his hand but nodded at him.

"Asher Edwards. Sorry but I'm not big on shaking hands right now. Don't wanna hurt you."

While Asher was being very honest, to Julian, it sounded like he was being sarcastic and bragging about being stronger.

"No worries. I can understand that not everyone can have the same level of control over their powers like me and others," Julian explainabragged.

Asher could pick up the mocking in Julian's voice and wrote the other teen off in his mind.

And this was how both of the teens met for the first time and the start of a beautiful Logan/Scott relationship of their own.
