Chapter 865 - Chapter 864: Hughie — Did I Just Become the Invisible Man?

Annie's superpower had never been particularly strong. But more than her powers, her biggest weakness had always been her personality—too soft, too timid. That, of course, had everything to do with her upbringing.

She and her mother had depended on each other since she was a child. But instead of teaching Annie to be independent and resilient, her mother had projected all her own dreams onto her: fame, fortune, becoming the queen of high society.

In a future video, when Annie finally mustered the courage to tell her mother what The Deep had done to her, she never got the chance. Her mother was too busy bragging about Annie joining Vought, boasting about her becoming a "celebrity"—drunk on vanity and pride.

Annie could only swallow her anger.

Her weakness wasn't innate—it was cultivated over time. And in many ways, her mother was the root cause.

Before undergoing the "Amazon Trial," Annie saw Homelander as an all-powerful god, and herself as nothing more than a bug he could crush with a flick of his finger. She didn't even have the will to resist him.

But that had changed.

On Themyscira, in the presence of the Amazon warriors and Diana, Annie truly learned that mental and spiritual strength are the foundation of real power.

For her, that was far more precious than raw physical strength. After all, no matter how powerful your body is, it still needs a strong will to control it.

The confidence radiating from Annie now left the others both amazed and impressed.

Butcher raised an eyebrow.

"You finished that fast. Why's that guy still not done?"

He was referring, of course, to Stephen Strange—who remained encased in golden light, like a cocoon, with no sign of what was going on inside.

Thor shrugged.

"His reward's gold-tier. Obviously more complicated. It makes sense that it's taking longer."

He then turned to Hughie with a wink.

"Looks like you're up next. Nervous?"

Hughie smiled and shrugged.

"Honestly? I'm feeling pretty good. Never thought I'd actually get a reward."

When he was first dragged into the Quiz Game, Hughie had been a total rookie, terrified out of his mind—sure he'd been abducted by aliens or thrown into some weird cosmic disaster.

Even after Thor explained the game, and the future videos confirmed it was real, Hughie couldn't shake the anxiety. He just wanted to go home. A reward hadn't even crossed his mind. So finishing third was a pleasant surprise.

At that moment, his name appeared on the screen—surrounded not by gold or purple, but a glowing blue light.

It was a bit underwhelming.

"So… blue's worse than purple, right?" Hughie asked, visibly disappointed.

Thor gave another shrug.

"Yep. Seems like your luck ran out. I've seen players get purple rewards for third place before."

That didn't help Hughie's mood.

Just then, a glowing blue orb emerged from the screen and slowly floated toward him.

[Congratulations, player Hughie Campbell. You have received the mystery reward:

Suke Suke no Mi — The Invisibility Fruit.]

The orb hit Hughie, and in the next instant, he vanished into thin air—demonstrating the power of the Invisibility Fruit for all to see.

Butcher blinked in surprise.

"Wait... So because future Hughie killed Translucent, he gets to become the next one? Really?"

Annie rubbed her chin thoughtfully.

"Actually… I think these rewards are tailor-made for each of us. I needed courage. Hughie? He needs security. If he can hide like that, he'll avoid a lot of danger."

Thor didn't agree.

"Nope. You're giving it too much credit. Sometimes these rewards are completely useless trash."

He thought about the electric mouse he once got from a purple-tier mystery box. All it did was shock him and eat a ton of food. Not exactly a god-tier prize.

Meanwhile, Hughie couldn't hear any of this—he was too busy testing his new powers.

The Invisibility Fruit, or Suke Suke no Mi, was a type of Devil Fruit that allowed the user to become completely invisible. And unlike Translucent's powers, which required him to be naked to work, this fruit could extend its invisibility to other objects in contact with the user.

Unfortunately, it didn't provide any defensive abilities like Translucent's carbon skin.

In the future video, Hughie, Butcher, and Frenchie had all struggled to deal with Translucent, finally resorting to… a rather explosive backdoor solution.

By comparison, the fruit's stealth was superior, but its defense was nonexistent.

Hughie could vaguely sense the experiences of past users of the Invisibility Fruit—most of whom apparently used it to sneak into women's bathhouses...

A moment later, the blue light faded, and Hughie reappeared. He looked a little excited.

"Hey! You guys couldn't see me just now, right?"

Thor chuckled.

"Yep. Looks like that power fits you pretty well."

Butcher raised a brow.

"Honestly? It's better than Translucent. At least you don't have to strip naked every time."

Hughie scratched the back of his head.

"Yeah… but it's got drawbacks too. I can't swim anymore. If I touch seawater, I lose all strength. Even taking a bath could be dangerous."

Butcher immediately gave him a warning look and made a zipping gesture across his mouth.

"Word of advice, Hughie—never tell people your weaknesses out loud. Ever."

As someone who'd spent years studying how to bring down Supes, Butcher understood the value of secrets. Hughie, unfortunately, was a bit too new to the game.

Thor, meanwhile, mused aloud:

"I've seen others get Devil Fruit powers as rewards. Some were way better than this, though. I wonder if there's one related to thunder or lightning? I'd love to try it. Might have to check the points store later.
