Chapter 5 - Chapter 5

Jack watched, mystified and enraptured, as the Goddess changed the world around them.

He didn't know it yet, at the time, but she'd also been changing him; growing him up, at an unnatural rate. Constantly feeding him knowledge and energy...

Sitting crosslegged on the floor, the ten year old tried again and again to wrap his young mind around the things she was conjuring up; as she lounged, comfortably on her side, in a sea of cushions across from him, humming pleasantly.

"How do you do it..." He broke down, at last, cowed, when she glanced into his eyes; pleased as ever with his reactions. "How is it possible?"

Amused, and very affectionate, she sat up a bit. "Everything is possible for you, Jack."

He nodded almost unconsciously, this confirming a determination he'd come to himself, years before. The Goddess had been the object of all his attentions, his thoughts and feelings for all this time, for as long as he could remember; prisoner only to the extent that he could stretch his imagination. Fascinated, he pressed her again. "You can do anything, then?"

"Anything you want, Jack." She hummed back, sweetly. Star clusters in spiral galaxies spun under her fingers, fading in and out of sight like dancing fireworks. "Almost without limit."

Alisia marveled at his intelligence, at the way his young mind worked.

Absorbing this, silently and very astutely, very quickly, Jack honed in on this fact, struggling to process it and succeeding beyond his years.

She watched his immature, fragile mind at work very closely, delighted and almost mesmerized.

"Are you the only one...?" He seemed to puzzle, at last, and she watched his thought process snag onto the real question looming over him.

Why was this limitless, cosmic deity always by his side, attending to him?

She almost swooned, sitting up in place and clutching her face melodramatically with both hands. Alisia sighed, as her eyes drifted shut, and clear visions of the perfect man he would soon become flashed past behind her eyelids. "I am, Jack. I'm the only Goddess in all the worlds."

He lowered his wide eyes slightly, from her face to her chest. Caught in contemplation of this, of something far too great for his current capacity to wrestle with, he simply followed the train of thought he was already on to a lurching stop.

"Will you... Will you always be with me?"

It sounded like he could barely pronounce the words, all of a sudden. On cue, Alisia felt her gut plummet; feeling his fresh anxiety like a cold shiver in her spine, and she couldn't believe it... Sitting up straight, she simply couldnt believe she'd put him in a position where he had to question her devotion. Utterly mortified, mortified that she hadnt done more to prevent this, she felt forced to do the moment over.

She felt this so strongly, so intimately, that the world changed around her.

"Jack... Oh, Jack." She whispered, heart in her throat. The Goddess reached out with both hands and all her love, her bottomless affection, pulling him into her arms and cradling him there, embracing him mightily. He blinked, momentarily stupefied; confused, as the offending thought had been wiped clean from his mind, leaving a small stopgap.

Alisia left him no time to wonder, however, pouring all her adoration into his heart; breathing her soothing passion through his soul and tempering him with joy, as she embraced him tighter still, rocking faintly in place.

That this goddess of limitless power and authority had always been by his side, attending to him, felt perfectly natural to Jack, now... As if he had ever even had a reason to question or consider it.

But of course he hadn't.

"You're going to squeeze me forever, aren't you." Jack complained a bit, grumbling and sitting up slightly, despite feeling positively at home, perfectly happy in her arms.

"For ever and ever!" she confirmed, cheerfully, brushing her nose against his. "But, you're getting a great deal, Jack. Anything you want, anything, for the rest of eternity, you can have it..."

"Is that right..." He answered, half-lamely, before meeting her bright eyes, still faintly mesmerized. Somehow, he couldnt think of a thing he wanted more than for nothing at all to change, nothing at all, ever. To simply remain by her side, remain in her arms, like this...

"That's right." Alisia teased, to his distinct chagrin, as she clutched him tighter to herself again, in her lap. "Limitless power, remember?"

The wall across from them shimmered, and faded away under his searching gaze to reveal a dazzling Oasis landscape; shifting again to a magnificent arctic sky, lit by vibrant magnetic color, ever changing, flucuating...

She could feel his amazement and fascination, wearing it with great pride.

"Limitless." Jack repeated, after her, still faintly dazed by the sheer notion of the scope to the term. Struggling to get a grip on some perspective, but unable to succeed, he did his best to cope with now perilously racing thoughts. "You control the whole galaxy, don't you."

Somewhat bemused, she rocked ever so slightly to and fro with him; amazed again and again by the brilliant intricacy of the puzzle in his optimally gifted, developing mind, the goddess watched his thoughts and feelings closely in rapt attention. "That's right, Jack..."

He was briefly silent, amazed, and then laughed out loud.

Alisia almost chuckled too, not entirely sure of what joke she'd missed, but clearly immersed in the lighthearted, pleasant atmosphere. "What!"

"Are you doing this, right now?" Jack seemed to barely suppress an innocent cackling, lifting an arm as if on puppet strings and waving at her with one hand.

"I'm not!" She exclaimed, honestly, mildly flustered and indignant; also fighting back giggles, despite still not quite seeing what exactly he was finding so hilarious. "That's not how it works, Jack-"

"You sure?" He prodded her gleefully, still wiggling his fingers as if manipulating strings.

"Hey. Hey!" She feigned a stern frown, in good humour; prodding him back, and forcing him to cross his arms, as he shrieked in delight, bursting into laughter again. "Are you doubting me?"

His naive mirth was something she savored, as nobody could be as aware of how little time she would have with this Jack, this particular Jack... With this particular stage of his development.

And every second meant the world to her.
