Chapter 108 - From rain into the gutter 3

Pov 3 person

Everything, on each floor of the building, which was not nailed to the floor or was not in any other way secured in place . Was now sliding downwards and then with the increase of the angle, fell on the walls with a loud thud . Causing destruction of the objects and cracks in the old walls.

Many things such as closets , dressers and other furniture with their weight and falling speed had no problem breaking through boarded up windows in order to fall out of the building straight into the sinkhole .

Luckily Kurumi and Neo were in a corridor where there was nothing that could fall on them . The only thing in front of them was a wooden door that led to no one knows where, and to which Kurumi was trying to get in .

But instead of getting there , Kurumi and Neo , due to the sudden sliding of the building and the change in the angle of the floor . Were sliding on their bellies along the wooden floor of the corridor , with there arms and legs outstretched in attempts to grab onto something to stop the increasingly rapid and violent slide .

With the condition of the neglected and dusty floors . Only the aura saved both of them from splintering and rusty nails . But their rather comical attempts to stop were not unfounded . In the window through which they jumped into the building , they could see the abyss into which they were slowly descending .

Besides , Kurumi and Neo saw that the front wall below them , was cracking and crumbling more and more because of the obvious tension the building was under . After all , buildings should not be hung sideways . The fact that this old building did not immediately turn into rubble was a miracle . Therefore, the very attempt to stand on this wall to find another way to escape was immediately thrown out of thought . Not that there was even time to think .

The building fortunately stood before it completely fell into the abyss . However, the building still remained dangerously tilted at a ninety-degree angle, turning the floor into a wall. However, the fact that the building stood at all, instead of falling or crumbling, gave Kurumi any chance of stopping.

Catching a hole in the wooden floor , and then with her other hand catching the sliding downward Neo , Kurumi managed to get a short moment to catch her breath . Which was barely audible in the noise of flowing water and the distant noise of further falling objects , which then crash with a clear echo somewhere at the bottom of this abyss .

But the peace of this one did not last long, however. The upper part of the building finally gave up . It simply cracked and crumbled , after which everything above the first floor slid / fall down . Leaving only the first floor with its " walls " . Or rather, what remains of them. .

And now through that severely damaged wall below them , from which the window had long since disappeared , now replaced by a hole . Kurumi and Neo could finally see and put together in their heads what had happened .

The whole sinkhole underneath them turned out to be a huge sewage tank . Or rather , a massive collection tank which collected sewage from part of this district and then sent it through a single larger pipe somewhere further away.

This tank was at least ninety meters deep and a hundred wide . With this size , it might seem that this is the city's main tank . However , looking at the size of the Vale and the number of people living here this tank must be just one of thousands of " smaller " tanks buried under the city .

The tank itself was surprisingly well lit , by hundreds of lights located in the very walls . Thanks to them Kurumi and Neo were able to see even the "bottom" of the tank, or rather the mass of rubble and even mostly whole walls and roofs of buildings that had fallen in .

This definitely clogged the drain, or at least hindered the flow of sewage, which, as Kurumi and Neo could see, was still flowing here. Tank was still active . From different sizes of tunnels and pipes located at different heights, great streams of sewage of different pressures were pouring into this active tank.

Most of the sewage flowing from the pipe and tunnels was no more than a small stream . Some of them didn't even have any water flowing through them. This meant that they must have been connected to long-abandoned buildings.

There were some stronger waterfalls or pressurized pipes. However, from among all these there was only one tunnel which stood out from all the rest . There was only one tunnel the stream of which was so strongly pressurized that it filled the entire three-meter high and four-meter wide tunnel, from which it then poured out in such a strong stream that it splashed all the way to the middle of the structure, and thus some fifty meters from the tunnel, before falling.

It must have been some kind of main tunnel from a more distant populated area. Of course, because of the fact that the outflow was clogged by the ruins, the sewage had no outlet and therefore at a fairly rapid pace they began to flood ruins on bottom . But at that moment, it didn't matter in the slightest. Neither Kurumi nor Neo could analyze what was happening anymore for one simple reason.

The smell that had accumulated in these closed tunnels and in tank for years. was now released . The smel alone made Kurumi and Neo pale . Only the danger of there situation stopped them from vomiting . Kurumi literally held them both. And Neo couldn't move so that Kurumi wouldn't lose her grip.

It was really awful . Neo and Kurumi , little monsters capable of brutal torture , now had tears in their eyes because of this unreal stench . Of course this in itself was also dangerous because of the many bacteria and harmful gases contained in this apparently poorly ventilated sewage .

The worst of it all , however , had to be the methane , which fortunately has not yet exploded . As long as it has actually accumulated . But even without methane, it was neither a safe nor a pleasant situation.

Kurumi and Neo had to escape, and in order to do so safely, they had to understand their situation. So , looking further toward the tank . Kurumi noticed that some of these tunnels , which were at the same height , apparently used to be connected to each other by old metal bridges , probably once used for repairs and movement through the canals .

Now, however, these bridges are lying at the bottom along with the ruins , probably snatched together with falling debris or destroyed even earlier by time and neglect . All that is left of them now , are parts of the bridges sticking out two or three meters from the exit of the tunnels , after which they end abruptly in bent metal .

And many grave steel ropes broken off at the ends, hanging from thick hooks on the walls , suggesting that it was apparently these that held these bridges in their middle sections . At least that was the only explanation of how those bridges didn't collapse and why those ropes were there at all .

The only thing that survived inside this structure , were platforms attached and stretched along the walls . They lead along the walls from the highest tunnel , continue down with the help of many stairs to the lowest tunnel . Of course just because they survived doesn't mean they are whole .

Many of the platforms have been damaged or even destroyed whether by debris or time . Barriers and even stairs are also absent in several places . And even when many parts still hold together , the question remains whether these rusty parts which are still standing will hold up when someone steps on them ?

Looking at the enormity of the fall below her Kurumi got chills . Even if they hit this disgusting " water " at the bottom , if that would eventually accumulate . A fall from here , would still surely kill them . From this height , falling on the water would be just like hitting the concrete sunken underneath .

But , if Kurumi and Neo had fallen in there and survived . Getting out would be possible but certainly difficult . However, neither of them wanted to even think about it. Death would probably be better than swimming in that. Well, not really, Kurumi and Neo would do it if the situation required it.

It's just that no normal person, especially not two young girls, would have the first thought of leaping in. For Kurumi, going down is a last resort.

" We have to climb . "

Said Kurumi looking up at the back wall of the building , which was still standing and was now the ceiling . Neo only nodded her head and then looked down once more . Next catching her umbrella in her teeth , Neo now used her free hand to try to catch something . But the building suddenly rattled with an alarming sound. , causing Kurumi and Neo to freeze.

" Don't move !!!! "

Shouted panicked Kurumi , realizing a terrible fact . The building was holding on by a " thread " . Every movement and even a breath of wind could cause a total collapse. . Which means they were stuck . If they try to climb up the building may fall .

Neo not being stupid understood this and froze . Her mismatched eyes narrowed in fear . This was not a situation to joke about . This was an actual threat to their lives . Or rather Kurumi's life .

Neo being herself , first thought about her Kurumi . And Kurumi being herself , first thought of her pink mouse . Both of them, however, were in trouble . The only peace of mind for Kurumi was that Emerlad was safely transported away from this . Thanks to the her clone , Emerlad was already on her way to the pawn shop .

As for there situation . It was difficult . Kurumi had both hands busy . With one she held Neo and wit the other , she held herself , or rather the two of them . Fortunately Kurumi had enough strength to hold them . What could not be said of the stale and rotten floorboard , which Kurumi was holding .

Kurumi , felt as the soft board crumble and crack in her hands. However, she did not tell this to Neo , not wanting to worry her even more . And she did well because at that moment , desperate Neo , was already ready to let go of Kurumi , sacrificing herself , just to ensure Kurumi's survival .

As for Neo's free hand . At the moment it contributed nothing , there was nothing to grab , besides any move could send the whole building down . The only solution Kurumi came up with . Was to quickly stretch the shadow that existed due to the lights from the tank and then create hands that gently grabbed Neo's and Kurumi's wrists . After that , another four shadowy hands emerged under their feet giving them a platform .

This relieved the pressure on the boards , in the end the shadows were not physically attached to the board . But as to whether the motion by using the ladder from the shadow hands would cause the building to collapse ? Kurumi wasn't sure and really didn't want to take a chance by checking it . So something else had to be thought out .
