"The kindness you showed me before," Bertha Haines wipes away her tears and asks Amos Smith, "…was it all just an act?"
"No!" Amos Smith denies without hesitation, "…It wasn't."
"Then you say you like me," Bertha chokes up, "if you want to marry me..."
"It's true!" Amos's tone is a bit flustered, "Once you turn twenty, we'll go to the civil affairs bureau for a marriage certificate."
After hearing this, Bertha suddenly breaks into a smile, but her smile looks worse than crying.
"Twenty years old? A marriage certificate?"
"Do you think, after you bankrupt The Norris Clan, we could still be together?"
Amos's face shows a hint of panic.
"Edgar Norris, he doesn't deserve to be a father, if he treated you a bit better..."
Bertha interrupts him and asks.
"If he treated me a bit better, would you spare The Norris Clan?"
Amos hesitates: "…I don't know, but at least The Norris Clan wouldn't go bankrupt so quickly."
Bertha's lips curve into a smile, tears showing as she speaks.
