Bertha Haines's body instantly tensed up.
She didn't dare turn her head to look at Amos Smith's expression, only hoping he wouldn't recognize Sebastian Page's voice. But clearly, she underestimated his attention to his rival.
The phone was suddenly snatched away.
At this moment, she thought it was best to keep silent to avoid this furious dragon spewing fire at her.
Then, she saw him 'skillfully' switch on the mic, then pull out the headphones, turning up the volume.
"You... what are you doing... hmm hmm..."
The rest of her words were swallowed by him, and the phone was tossed to the side.
Sebastian Page seemed to sense something was amiss, and he kept asking on the other end of the phone, "What's up? Did you turn on the mic?"
The phone lay by the pillow, but Bertha's hand was held tightly by Amos Smith. Out of shame, and fearing Sebastian would discover she was 'with' Amos Smith, she bit her lip and refused to make a sound.
