Chapter 4 - Chapter 4: Falsely Accused of Being a Thief

Sure enough, not long after Bertha Haines returned to her bedroom, the door was knocked on.

Before she could open the door, several people directly pushed it open and walked in. The leader of the servants went straight to her nightstand, opened it, looked through it, and exclaimed.

"It was clearly in the drawer, I saw it when I was cleaning."

At this point, Nancy Norris suddenly spoke up: "Stop looking, if Bertha likes it, she can have it. I've told Bertha, she can wear any clothes or jewelry from the dressing room."

Ivan Norris directly asked Bertha Haines, "Where's the bracelet? If you like it, I'll buy you another one. That was a gift from Mom for Nancy's eighteenth birthday; it means a lot to her. Please give it back to her."

Jerry Moore followed them in, shielding Bertha Haines behind him, then scolded his son, "Leo! How could you talk to Bertha like that!"

Having been wronged once before, Bertha Haines remained calm this time. She gestured to her birth mother, [Mom, I didn't steal her stuff.]

Ivan Norris sneered coldly, "If you didn't take it, would Miss Carter dare to frame you?"

Charlotte Carter had already searched through the nightstand but still didn't see a trace of the bracelet.

"I clearly saw it in this drawer, how could it be gone?"

Jerry Moore realized something was not quite right with this situation.

"The Norris family has rules, without the owner's permission, servants cannot casually open the owner's wardrobes and drawers!"

Charlotte Carter was so anxious she started speaking awkwardly.

"I... I accidentally left the drawer open a crack and unintentionally... unintentionally glimpsed the bracelet that looked just like the eldest miss's, so I kept it in mind."

"Madam, I really didn't mean to open the second miss's drawer."

Jerry Moore was extremely protective now, and she couldn't stand others bullying Bertha.

"Carter, you must be responsible for what you say."

"If I find out you deliberately framed Bertha, don't say you won't be able to get by in Fleur City, your entire family will only be drinking the northwest wind!"

Charlotte Carter instinctively glanced at Nancy Norris, then stammered, trying to defend herself.

"Madam, I'm just a servant, I have no grudges against the second miss, what would I gain by framing her for no reason!"

Jerry Moore: "A thief crying, 'Stop thief!'"

Charlotte Carter was so scared she immediately kneeled on the ground.

"Madam, it's heaven and earth's conscience; I've been with the Norris family for four or five years, and I've never taken a single thing from the Norris family."

Jerry Moore: "We'll know whether you took it or not once we search!"

To prove her innocence, Charlotte Carter led everyone to her own maid's quarters.

The 20-square-meter maid's room was simply furnished.

As she opened the wardrobe and drawers for everyone to inspect, Bertha Haines boldly took the bracelet hidden in her sleeve and threw it on the ground, then kicked it under the bed.

The action was performed smoothly and swiftly.

After Charlotte Carter had searched the wardrobe and drawers thoroughly, she knelt by the bed, preparing to pull out the suitcase from under the bed.

As a result, she pulled out the bracelet.

She was stunned for about three to five seconds, then began shouting she was wronged.

"This... it's really not me who put it here, someone must have... someone deliberately framed me!"

Jerry Moore's face darkened, "Call the police!"

Charlotte Carter panicked upon hearing about calling the police.

And after remaining silent for a long time, Nancy Norris suddenly spoke up at this moment.

"Carter, you've worked with the Norris family for four or five years, if you have any difficulties, you can talk to us directly. If you urgently need money, just ask, we'd give it to you. Why did you have to..."

Charlotte Carter's knees went weak, she knelt on the ground, then begged Jerry Moore.

"Madam, please don't call the police; my son is sick and urgently needs money, I... I just got momentarily confused, please give me another chance."

Jerry Moore was kindhearted, but at this moment she steeled her heart.

"People who can't keep their hands clean can't stay in the Norris family; pack your things and leave today."

After speaking, she led Bertha Haines out of the maid's room.

Nancy Norris chased them out, looking at Bertha Haines with a guilty expression.

"Bertha, I'm sorry, I shouldn't have trusted the words of a servant and doubted you. Sister apologizes to you, will you forgive me?"

Ivan Norris also followed them out, his expression awkward.

"We really shouldn't have blindly believed the words of a servant."

Bertha Haines was not generous enough to forgive them. Playing the victim wasn't hard, and it wasn't only Nancy Norris who could shed tears at will. She gently bit her lip, raised her hand to wipe the tear stains on her cheek, and then ran upstairs crying.
