"This is absurd! Was there anyone in the hospital with you who could have taken the baby?" Chris asked, feeling agitated.
"No theres no one. Mrs Whitney was the only one with me. Besides, I didn't get any scan done, so I didn't know what I was having, which is another reason why I believe I could have been pregnant with a girl and a boy." Jane noted, and Chris was shocked.
His mind then drifted to the same day he went to the hospital with Jack. The doctor said the same thing. He said the girl that was brought to the hospital that day had a boy and a girl.
So that means Jane knows what she's saying.
"Grace came up with the theory. She's thinking probably the baby died, and that is the reason why I wasn't allowed to know I had two babies." Jane said, and Chris shook his head.
"No I do not believe that. I think something really happened, and we need to get to the bottom of it." Chris said with determination. He will definitely go to the bottom of this. He has to find his other child.
"And why don't we ask Mrs Whitney instead of just staying here and speculating. Since she was there with you, then she must know what happened." Chris said and was beginning to stand up, but Jane pulled him back.
"No I don't think we should do that. Mrs Whitney is going through a lot right now. And again, in the past. I have asked her several times how she raised the money to pay for my hospital bill, but she always got mad at me and said I was pestering her." Jane said.
"She refused to tell me, and I also decided to stop asking her about it." Jane said.
"So you are saying you don't know where she got the money to pay for the hospital bill from?" Chris asked, and Jane nodded her head.
"Yes, it was quite a huge sum of money. And we didn't have that much. We barely made a living from the milk that we sold. What's even crazier was the fact that she wasn't working because she had to stay at the hospital and take care of me." Jane recounted.
"We have to go to the hospital tomorrow. I can't wait any longer. I have to find out what happened to my daughter." Chris said, and Jane was shocked.
Her eyes softened, seeing how he regards her children as his. Nothing is certain yet, but she can swear that she feels she has a daughter somewhere.
"Fine! We will go to the hospital tomorrow morning and find out what happened before coming back to prepare for the outing we have with the kids." Jane said, and Chris pulled Jane into his arms.
"I completely forgot about that as well. Yes, we will have so much fun tomorrow. But why don't we have more fun now." Chris said, and Jane giggled because she understood what he meant.
She leaned forward and kissed him, and Chris took charge. He kissed her and fondled her breast a little.
"I like that you are getting used to this." Chris said and kissed her again.
"Aahh!" Jane moaned as Chris slid two fingers into her. She held unto his shoulder for support as she was sinking into the bed.
He captured her lips and kissed her while still pleasuring her with his fingers. Jane moaned inside his mouth with her heavy breath colliding with his grunt.
The room was filled with the sweet sound of their lovemaking. Their moans and grunts hanging in the air as they bodies moved in unison.
The following morning, Chris and Jane woke up earlier than everyone. They would like to get to the hospital and still come back here on time. So they can get ready for the picnic.
They drove off and arrived at the hospital. Jane felt nostalgic coming back to the neighbourhood where and spent over six years of her life.
She remembers delivering milk every morning around here. But now she's the wife to the richest man in the country. Chris opened the door for her, and she alighted from the car quietly.
Jane doesn't want any attention drawn to her. She knows how the people of this neighbourhood can be.
"Good morning sir, good morning, ma'am. How may I help you?" the nurse at the reception asked.
"We would like to see the doctor. Is it okay if we do that now? It's kind of urgent. I'm Chris Smith, and this is my wife, Jane Smith." Chris introduced, and the nurse immediately recognised him.
"Oh my goodness! I know you, I see you a lot on TV. You are the one, right?" She asked, and Chris nodded his head.
"Right this way, I will let the doctor know you are here. Good thing you arrived early. He doesn't have any appointments as he's just arriving in himself." The nurse said, giggling as she spoke.
She couldn't contain herself but tried to control herself as his wife was beside him.
The nurse knocked on the door and opened it after a while for the both of them to go in.
"Good morning, doctor." Jane greeted, and the man recognized her.
"Aren't you the girl who used to deliver milk to us?" The doctor asked.
"Yes doctor, but she's my wife now. We are sorry to disturb you this early morning, but we came here because of something really important." Chris went straight to the point.
"What's that? Is anything the problem?" The doctor asked.
"Not at all. I just need some information as regards my case and what happened to me when I was brought here. Remember after I was brought in here by Mrs Whitney the morning after what happened to me?" Jane asked, and the doctor nodded his head.
"Yes I remember perfectly well everything that happened. Whitney was your angel. She saved you." the doctor agreed.
"Exactly! Then I found out I was pregnant as well. I want to know, did I really have twins? You said the other day that I had a boy and a girl." Jane said, and the doctor nodded his head.
"Yes you had two babies at once. In fact, after you left that day. I took out time and looked for your file. I was correct. You had twins. A boy and a girl." The doctor said and brought out a file.
He placed it on the Jane quickly opened it, she checked and she was correct, she had two children.
"Chris look! This is a copy of their footprint." Jane said as tears streamed down her face.
"So what happened to the girl. As far as we know, she only has one child, which is the boy. When she woke up, it was only the boy that was handed over to her. No one told her she had twins." Chris said.
"Well you will have to ask Whitney. She took the girl away three days after birth. She said a cousin of hers was going to take care of the baby girl while she took care of the boy." The doctor said, and Jane gasped.
"She said it was too much work for her taking card of you and two newborns. What she said seems reasonable, and since she was responsible for you. I signed the release of the baby girl." the doctor explained in detail.
"What! There's no way this is happening. What did Mrs Whitney do to the baby? Are you sure the baby wasn't dead?" Jane asked.
"Not at all. The baby was well and alive." The doctor said.
"What about the hospital bill? How did we pay?" Jane asked.
"At first, there wasn't any money to pay the bill. But eventually, Whitney cleared the bill." The doctor answered.
"I'm sorry if I'm asking so many questions. But when was this? When was the bill cleared?" Jane asked.
"About four days after." The doctor answered.
"At about the same time the baby girl went missing." Chris noted, and Jane sat back on the chair in silence for a little while. She didn't know what to say or think at first. So she just sat there.
"One last thing. Did we ever have any problems with money again after that until I woke up from coma?" Jane asked, and the doctor shook his head.
"Not at all. All bills were settled by your guardian without any issue. Is there something going on that I should know?" The doctor asked, worried that something bad was happening.
"Not at all, doctor. Everything is fine. We are just trying to find our daughter, and we need every information that we can find. Thank you so much, doctor, for helping us out. Come on, Jane, let's head back home." Chris said and took Jane's hand.
He led her outside the hospital and helped her into the car. He got inside himself and drove off.
