Chapter 14 - Chapter Thirteen: Li Family (2)

"F**k you." Hayley hollered at Jaxon as she cussed at him.

"I'm sorry, is it my fault, for what, not being able to introduce myself earlier on because of my, 'fight' with you a month or so ago?" Jaxon sarcastically said as he glared at Hayley.

Hayley opened her mouth to protest but closed it again. After a few moments, she huffed in annoyance and continued her way through the streets. Susan followed silently behind them with June and Siera in tow.

"What happened?" Susan whispered to Siera as they kept following Jaxon and Hayley.

"Nothing," Siera quietly replied.

As they passed the main plaza everyone gathered around to see the commotion.

A woman with short greenish brown hair, wearing a white dress with red roses, was sitting on a bench holding onto her knees as she sobbed. Everyone in the plaza seemed to be giving her space to cry, and after a minute of silence, the woman slowly lifted her face and looked up to the sky. The grey clouds had obscured the sun.

"We have abounded...."

Her whisper attracted everyone's attention, then suddenly she yelled: "Everyone shut your fucking mouths!"

The sudden outburst of anger stunned most of the crowd into silence.

Suddenly temperature fell.

"Stop wasting my time, I want to sleep. Now move!" She screamed as she got off the bench angrily and walked away.

The plaza fell silent as they looked at each other and started to leave too.

"She must've lost it."

"Who knows, maybe she's the reason why all the inhabitants before us lost it."

"Maybe...."

As the plaza gradually emptied, June, Susan, Jaxon, Hayley and Siera walked towards the room assigned to them. As they passed the main square, a shadow flashed by. Susan who was the closest to Jaxon grabbed onto his arm.

"Something's wrong," Susan said as she looked around.

Jaxon shook his head. "Let's just get some rest."

The team entered the seven guest room house and slept peacefully on top of their beds in the room they chose, unaware of the dark figure sneaking past the wall next to where Susan was looking before. The person was wearing a dark green dress shirt paired with black jeans and a pair of black gloves. A hood covered the person's face and hid the colour of their hair. The only thing visible was their glowing amber eyes.

The creature looked straight back at the door of Susan and the rest of the team, before jumping over the tall metal wall.

The next day.

The sun had risen a couple of hours ago and the morning air was cool and gloomy. Everyone was sitting in a circle at the main plaza, eating packets of compressed biscuits as breakfast and talking quietly about the previous day's events. Suddenly the ground started shaking.

June and the others jumped up to their feet as they prepared themselves for whatever was coming to pass. They ran outside and found that all of the buildings surrounding them had fallen. They looked around trying to find the cause. Then suddenly everything exploded from underneath their feet and the sound of metal tearing and crumbling filled their ears.

"What the hell is going on!?" Susan yelled as she tried to keep herself steady.

"I don't know! But we need to get out of here!" Siera yelled back as she tried to run away from the falling debris.

"Siera wait!" Hayley and the rest yelled as they ran after her.

"Susan stop her!" June said as she ran towards Siera's direction.

Nodding Susan let her plants shoot toward Siera, warping her waist tightly as she pulled the plants back. The sound of crushing was heard from where Siera was standing not too long ago.

"Shit!" Jaxon exclaimed as he looked towards the west side of the base. Zombies had entered through the metal wall that now had a huge hole in the middle.

Hearing Jaxon cuss June and the rest looked towards the walls of the base.

"Damn! There are zombies everywhere!" Jaxon shouted as he saw two large ones approaching Susan. He took out his weapon and fired. "Susan, you have to run to the left!" Susan immediately ran to the right.

One zombie tried to grab Susan. However, Susan dodged the monster, using her vines as a whip to smack the zombie across its face. She kicked it into the other one, killing it instantly.

Taking advantage of it she quickly jumped up, avoiding a swipe of claws from another Zombie. Landing on its back, she quickly wrapped the vines around the monster's neck. With a quick twist, Susan pulled her vines down hard and broke its neck. She jumped off as the Zombie collapsed on the ground lifeless.

The other zombie charged at Susan. Jumping up, she spun herself in the air so fast that the Zombie would never see her coming.

"You and Hayley the one from the front, June, Siera and I will take the one from behind!"

"Got it!" Susan and Hayley answered as Hayley shot a stream of fire from her hands directly into the head of the Zombie, Susan leapt off the dead zombie's body. Using the momentum of the attack Susan swung herself around as the Zombie fell. Grabbing onto a branch of a tree Susan climbed higher before dropping to the Zombie she had targeted. Once she was a meter or two above the Zombie, she kicked it across the head. The Zombie fell forward dead.

Seeing Susan's and Hayley's progress, June and Siera turned around to look at them; before they could cheer for them a heavy thump was heard behind them. Looking back they saw Jaxon on the floor with his skin turning a ridiculously red hue.
