Chapter 65 - Chapter 65: Orbitals

Following slightly more than half an hour of repeatedly flying back and forth with the 3 Vertibird aircraft, we got the entirety of them moved over to base, and right as we did, I had Amata begin getting them set up in their own personal rooms on the third floor. As my female partner was handling that task for me with the assistance of several of my robots as well as Don, I returned to the Rockland Satellite Relay Station with more than a few turrets, including both gatling lasers and my newly produced gatling gauss ones.

Immediately upon returning, I put my mechanical men to work, the very same ones I brought along with me on my raid, and had them start setting up the many turrets that we transported with us. Alongside the turrets they were currently busy setting up, I told them to majorly beef up the defenses here with the materials and equipment we brought along.

This was so the station would be more prepared to defend against any would be attackers, whether that be from the Enclave or some other equivalent power. The fallout games only covered a miniscule amount of the United States, let alone the rest of the world. Thus, it's better to be prepared to face whatever those unknown threats may be than not.

Whilst they were completing the jobs assigned to them, I walked over to the force field generators and touched one of them to gain knowledge of how they functioned, as well as their production methods, via my perk Tech Junkie. The instant I laid my hand on it, I instantly experienced a flood of knowledge invading my brain regarding the information I sought.

Standing in place as still as can be, I speedily absorbed the information and as soon as I had processed and understood every little bit, I moved onto my next objective, which was to go around the Rockland Satellite Relay Station and gather up the loot. So while my robots were busy installing the turrets, I did just that.

Spending my time running around the place gathering the valuables, my robots eventually finished installing all the turrets we brought with us. The moment they did, I called them over and had them assist me in collecting the remaining loot here in the facility, load it up into the back of Hauler and the Hauling Bots, and travel back to base.

...

A short trip later, my robots and I arrived back home once again and as we were pulling into the loading area, I found it was lunchtime.

*Growl*

Yeah, I could use a hearty meal after working just about nonstop since the time I got out of bed in the middle of the night.

With my stomach growling, I unloaded the loot I was carrying in my inventory onto the loading area's floor and made my way upstairs to take off my gear, whilst my robots began taking care of sorting and storing the mess of items I left for them. From Amata's and my shared space, I went down a floor to the dining hall where everyone, including our new recruits, were. As I was coming through the double doors, I drew some attention from our new recruits.

Ignoring the eyes training me, I grabbed some food for myself before taking a seat at a large table that had a group of men in their 20s, so I could make small talk with them and see what they thought of their new situation. Once I took a seat, I chatted with them as they dug into their respective meals, which I quickly learned was a significant upgrade from what they were being fed by the Enclave.

My conversation with them went on and on and the longer I continued talking with them, the more comfortable they became with me, and before long they really started to open up to me. So with this being as perfect an opportunity as any, I began asking them more about themselves, what they were doing in the Enclave, and such. The responses I received from this group mostly consisted of they were born into it and that they were usually sent on different missions mainly to go investigate different military sites and installations.

Continuing to chat with them further, I moved on to ask them what they thought about their new situation. The overall response I got for that question was unanimous, in that their current living situation was an all around upgrade from what they previously had. There was special emphasis put on the part of being able to have their own room and bathroom, which I learned was a privilege only the Enclave officers and above were entitled to. And that went for both the Rockland Satellite Relay Station and Raven Rock.

Right as we got done talking about that, I conversed with them for a while longer before I decided I had taken up enough of their time.

"Alright, well, you guys enjoy the rest of your lunch. I'm going to go spend some time with my lady friend."

"Must be nice." One of the men commented, sounding depressed about his single status.

"It is." I replied smugly.

Having finished my conversation and stirred up a bees' nest, I got out of there, grabbed myself some more food, and moseyed on over to Amata and took a seat next to her to enjoy the rest of my lunch with her. As I was eating the rest of my lunch with Amata, the thought processes that I had allocated to take control of the many satellites within Earth's orbit had finished infecting the remainder of the satellites that were still functional to some extent.

What I ended up gaining control of was a grand total of 296 satellites and a host of facilities in various conditions spread out across the planet. That said, the satellites were in a hell of a much better condition compared to any of the satellite facilities on the ground, which were exposed to centuries of wear and tear by wind and rain. Not to mention the many nukes that went off all those years ago.

Of the satellites that I was able to take control of, most of them were long-lasting nuclear-powered surveillance satellites, but there were 21 among them that were orbital weapon satellites. And of those 21 orbital weapons, 1 is the ARCHIMEDES II orbital laser sitting above New Vegas, 19 are Bradley-Hercules satellites that have 106 salvos left combined, with each salvo consisting of 9 warheads, and the last orbital weapon is an experimental particle cannon named PC-63.

Which from my understanding of the satellite should be on par with something similar to the particle cannon from C&C Generals. However, unlike the one from Generals this particular weapon has power issues and seems to only be capable of firing its particle weapon 7 times before depleting its fuel source... That's a bummer, but I'm just happy that the thing is still functional.

Now that I have control of the remaining satellites within Earth's orbit, I'll spread out all the surveillance satellites evenly across the U.S. wasteland, except for several dozen of them, which will be focused on the Capital Wasteland, California, New Vegas, and The Commonwealth.

So I'll be able to spot large movements, gather intel, keep an eye on important targets, and generally just have a better idea of what's going on in the wasteland. I could even use them to find crashed alien ships too, although now that I'm thinking of it, the likelihood of finding any crashes is probably pretty slim given my current numbers. But that's only if I don't increase the number of surveillance satellites under my control by many times... Okay, that's enough about that time to move onto the orbital weapons now.

Hmm, my current operating area is only the capital wasteland at the moment and because of that, there's not much point in keeping the orbital weapon platforms elsewhere. Hence, it would be in my best interest to position them above D.C. so they can be called upon if I ever needed some really, really big firepower... Yeah, I'll move all of them with the exception of the ARCHIMEDES II since it's running on minimal power and can't move that far away from the HELIOS One, over to the capital wasteland in case I need them. I doubt I will, but you never know, hence it's always better to be over-prepared than under-prepared, especially when shit hits the fan.

As the satellites began their journeys into the new positions I set for them, I continued digging into my lunch with Amata while occasionally discussing different topics with her. Around a half-an-hour in, we finished our lunch and initiated the interviews of each Enclave soldier recruited to determine what they were best at and assign them their jobs. At the end of it all, we kept the 73 soldiers within their combat roles, with Don and Officer Manning managing them for the most part.

Continuing on from the soldiers, we assigned 5 of the Enclave personnel to medical even though we didn't currently possess a medical area, but that is what those personnel specialized in, so that is where I'm going to keep them. That said, a proper medical section with all the bells and whistles will need to be designated and built for them.

I can't exactly have them sitting around doing nothing forever, thus getting them a state-of-the-art area will move to the top of the priority list. As for where it should go, well, I got tons of space on the first floor where the old RobCo offices are that are serving zero purpose at this time, so it might as well go there.

For the remainder of them, Amata and I kept the 6 Vertibird pilots where they were and assigned the other 10 Enclave to research and development under the leadership of Michael William Masters, who still needs a dedicated R&D area to work in. So, that's another thing that needs building. Following the assignment of their jobs, I had them go downstairs and hang out in the recreation area for the rest of the day, since they looked like they could use a bit of time to unwind and have some fun.

With the bunch of them dealt with and sent off to the recreation area, I made my way downstairs to have a look at the offices with Amata in tow. After checking the offices out, I got a number of my robots to dismantle them and start constructing the now much-needed medical area. From there, we traveled to the gym to get her workout and training in and my second session in.

...

A couple of hours later, we completed the last of our sets, cleaned ourselves off in the showers, changed into fresh sets of clothes, and met back up with each other. Immediately upon meeting back up with each other, we headed upstairs again hand in hand to go get some work done in my workshop. Whilst we were making our way upstairs via the elevator, I signaled for my Worker Bots to begin construction of the pool on the second level underground. A project they should be able to complete in no more than 2 days, given the current amount of Worker Bots at my disposal.

Shortly thereafter, the elevator arrived on the first floor, hence we hopped off it and proceeded to our next destination. When we reached my workshop in the manufacturing area, I got right to work and began designing a laser cannon turret. Amata and I worked for the next 4 hours and at the end of it, I had my new laser cannon turret design, which I went a bit overboard with.

The new turret was a quad laser cannon that could, depending on the situation, shoot 1 laser at a time in a clockwise pattern to improve the durability and lifespan of the barrels. As for its other firing pattern, it would just fire all barrels at once, either as a pulse or a continuous beam. The latter of which should have no problem quickly melting through heavy armor at the cost of heat buildup.

Other than the quad laser cannon, I designed a dedicated automated grenade manufacturing machine with a production capacity of 10,000 grenades a day. So, when I build it tomorrow, I'll be able to start pumping out all kinds of grenades for the various situations my forces and I will face in the wasteland.

In addition to those two designs, I planned out a fortified compound wall that will be built around the entirety of the facility. The defensive structure will be made up of poured concrete primarily and reinforced with alloy rebar to increase the strength and stability of the walls. Which will be 3 meters thick and stand at a height of 10 meters with a number of defense points spread across it for a plethora of turrets to be mounted.

As impressive as that sounds already, the walls will also feature armored plates across the whole of its exterior to reinforce and improve its already substantial defenses even further. And when I'm able to begin manufacturing force field generators, that technology will also be applied to the walls, upping its defenses to another level. Lastly, for its entry and exit points, it will possess a total of 4 huge armored blast doors with integrated force fields, so we're not restricted to just one singular entry and exit point.

That was about the gist of what we were able to get done in that period, so, following that, we returned upstairs again to the dining hall and joined everyone for dinner to continue integrating our new recruits into our rapidly growing group. After another enjoyable dinner, everyone headed back downstairs to the recreation room to have a bit of fun before bed. An hour and a half of fun later, everyone made their way to their rooms and turned in for the night, including Amata and me.

When the two of us made it back to our room, we got ready for bed, changed into our sleepwear with hers being a dark purple nightgown and mine just being my usual loadout of a pair of black boxer briefs and a black tank top. From there, the two of us climbed into bed together and not a moment after I hopped in, I found my pretty companion snuggling up against me.

Enjoying the affection she loved to show me on the regular, we conversed about whatever popped into our minds. This went on for a good while before Amata inevitably began losing steam. Wishing my beauty a goodnight, she shut her eyes and swiftly drifted into the land of dreams.

Gently brushing her hair just the way she liked it my attention shifted to my recently captured satellites, the very ones that reached their new positions, finally. Turning a good portion of my focus to them, I found most of the surveillance satellites evenly distributed across the U.S. Wasteland with each major game location having 12 surveillance satellites dedicated to watching over them. On top of the satellites moving into position, all the orbital weapon satellites arrived at their designated locations above the Capital Wasteland that I intended for them, massively increasing my surveillance capabilities as well as my firepower that I could call upon at a moment's notice.

With my many satellites positioned where I wanted them, I utilized the thought processes I had allocated to them previously and began observing the wasteland at large from my satellites' point of view. What I saw was a U.S. that was filled with innumerable scorched and cratered areas, especially where many cities and urban areas used to be located. But as I kept looking, I also found a number of areas that seemed relatively green and surprisingly untouched by atomic fire, so I took note of them and kept exploring the U.S. Wasteland from up above the clouds.

I continued doing this for a decent bit and eventually moved my focus to Chicago to see what was happening over there. What came into view was a large, expansive crumbling city that used to be a hub for robot production prior to the bombs falling. But unlike then, it was now a shell of its former self, sadly missing the grandeur it once possessed.

Although the place wasn't what it once was, I was still interested in the location because of it being featured in the games, thus I continued scanning the city through my surveillance satellites. Thankfully, my efforts weren't for naught because I eventually discovered it had a number of thriving settlements surrounding the exterior of the bombed and ruined city of Chicago.

It looks like the powers that be over there are making decent progress, so maybe the city won't remain a bombed out husk forever. I wonder how far along they'll be when I inevitably set my sights beyond the capital wasteland.

Finished observing Chicago, I moved on and checked up on a number of other locations, though I mainly stayed by the areas surrounding New Vegas. I continued my effort, but I nonetheless started to get tired, so I decided I had seen enough for tonight. The second I turned my focus away from my satellites, I shut my eyes, relaxed, and allowed the darkness to take me.
